DEVELOPING: Cremins Retires at College of Charleston

((HT: ESPN910 Charleston))

College of Charleston head men's basketball coach Bobby Cremins held a press conference this afternoon to update the school on his absence

He came back to work March 7th with the blessings of his family, but he has decided to retire as coach effective immediately.

In 2006, assuming he would never coach again, the College hired him to succeed Gregg Marshall who had taken the job- only to go to another job.

Cremins went on to thank the players who played for him during his tenure.

"It was unfortunate what happened to me in late January. Our body sometimes send us signals we have to listen to... I'm doing great now, but I feel it's best to step aside and move on to the next chapter of my life."

At the end of January, Cremins took an indefinite medical leave of absence because of "a non-life threatening medical condition." Associate head coach Mark Byington finished the season as the interim head coach.

Cremins says he looks forward to a "happy and healthy future..."

OSG College: Cremins Out On Medical Leave

((HT: WCBD-TV Charleston))

And, in injury parlance, Cremins would be listed as "UFN"- uuntil further notice.

The 64-year-old head hoops coach at the College of Charleston has an "undisclosed medical condition" that needs to be addressed, and assistant Mark Byington will be taking over as the number one. The situation is listed as "non life-threatening."

Cremins issued the following release:

"I have decided to step aside to take a medical leave of absence. I have asked our Athletic Director, Joe Hull, to turn the team over to our Associate Head Coach Mark Byington. Mark is an outstanding young man and basketball coach. I have complete faith in him as do our players. Being able to come back and coach at the College of Charleston has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I hope everybody will continue to support our team and Mark."

Here's how it went down at the CoC with Andy Wontor...
