It was a struggle but the Washington Huskies prevailed barely over Hawaii 17-16 in Chris Petersen's head coaching debut at U-Dub.
Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL
“Our guys played hard." Petersen said. "I think there were some good individual plays. Certainly as a team we didn’t play nearly like I think we can play. I think it’s going to be a big wake up call. It’s just hard to win games against anybody.”
The Rainbow Warriors jumped on the Dawgs for 10 unanswered points before Washington's offense began to wake up when John Ross scored on the ground for 20 yards in the first quarter and catching a pass from quarterback Jeff Lindquist for 91 yards.
Washington took a 17-10 lead at halftime and then didn't score again.
Hawaii added a pair of field goals but the rally feel short.
“I just feel like our whole team played too tight." Petersen said. "We got off to a bad start and we were playing not to lose. At times, our defense would get into a rhythm, do some good things and our offense wouldn’t do anything. It started to snowball a little bit.”
“We had our chances, both offensively and defensively." Hawaii head coach Norm Chow said. "We need to get better, and we need to be a better football club.”

DEVELOPING: Petersen Reportedly To U-Dub
((HT: KTVB-TV))
After years of turning down better gigs at the top of his momentum curve, Boise State University head coach Chris Petersen looks to be heading to the University of Washington...
Petersen had been linked to bigger schools in, mainly, western US programs. But it had been believed that Petersen has turned down jobs in the past because of the notion that the treatment of his special needs child kept him in Boise- a place where the treatment could be continuous.
From Joe Schad at ESPN through his Twitter:
Chris Petersen is ready for a new challenge and views the professional and family timing and UW destination as the perfect next step
Here's the reports out of Boise...
Petersen is expected to be one of the highest paid coaches in the Pac-12 Conference when he signs...

Boise State Survives At New Mexico 32-29
The past few years the New Mexico Lobos has been the
butt of many jokes here at the OSG HQ and the poster child as to how to ruin a
football program.
Well the Lobos almost had the last laugh Saturday in
Albuquerque against the mighty Boise State Broncos.
Boise State ran off 25 unanswered points in the
first half and it looked it another blow out at UMN’s expense.
Well things have changed in Lobo-land. New Mexico took advantage of a pair of Bronco
turnovers and turned those into touchdowns.
Then the Boise State defense couldn’t figure out New Mexico’s triple
option offense directed by Lobo quarterback Cole Gautsche.
Gautsche led UNM to four touchdowns but Boise State’s
first half roar lingered to hold on over the Lobos 32-29.
Here’s a game report. (Thanks KTVB, Boise, ID)Monday, December 5, 2011
Boise's Petersen: "Nobody Likes It..."
((HT: KTVB-TV Boise))
It has become painfully clear, for the elevendy-billionth year in a row, that the Bee-Cee-Ess is nothing worth anything except to the people who run it...
Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen is among those in a vocal majority whose voice is chosen to be ignored...
Because of the Broncos Non-AQ status, they get to travel to Las Vegas and beat up on a substandard Arizona State team that is looking for a head coach. The Broncs were ranked 7th in the polls, but were passed over for Michigan and Virginia Tech in the second New Orleans-based bowl game.
Here's da coach railing on da system...
Yes, the HQ knows Coach Pete is right...
No, the HQ doesn't think it'll change...
