FBI Investigating Threat To The Grove

((HT: University of Mississippi))

Here's the note from the school in its entirety:

A handwritten note threatening damage to trees and shrubs in the Grove at the University of Mississippi and signed "Hail State/Go to Hell TSUN" was turned over to the Jackson office of the FBI today (Nov. 26) by UM Police Chief Calvin Sellers.

The note, which arrived on campus late Tuesday (Nov. 25), said:

"What's going to happen to ya'll on the field Saturday Aint nothing compared to what's going to happen on your beautiful campus. You won't be one of the most pretty campus's Next year. A lot of shrubs and trees are going to die; especially in the grove. Can't stop us" (signed) "Hail State Go to Hell TSUN."

Law enforcement authorities are taking the threat seriously and are encouraging fans to report suspicious behavior, Sellers said. In addition, he said, law enforcement resources have been added to address fan safety inside and outside the stadium.

"This longtime football rivalry has separated families and friends for generations, but while it's spirited, our attention has been focused mostly on the football field," Sellers said. "We encourage everyone to remember that this is a game, after all, not a time for hate. We are hopeful that passions have not escalated to the point that someone is prepared to do damage to a landmark for which all Mississippians take great pride."

Just what the Ess-E-Cee needs on another rivalry weekend...

Bama Fan Blindsided By Local Cop In Oxford

((HT: f_s_brown's Instagram))

Not to be confused with Saban's police force taking down someone who was stupid enough to approach over the weekend...

The Oxford, Mississippi police didn't take too kindly to Alabama fan that wanted to throw something onto the field in protest either...

Post Johnny Manziel Era Looks Good For Texas A&M, Aggies Pound Gamecocks 52-28

New Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill not only had Aggie fans forgetting about Johnny Manziel, Hill wipe out Johnny Football from the Aggie record books too.

Hill broke Manziel's school single game passing record throwing for 511 yards as Texas A&M routed South Carolina 52-28 breaking the Gamecocks 18 game home win streak.

Do we start the Kenny Hill Heisman Trophy campaign now?  Please no Kenny Football references.

It was obvious the Texas A&M played with a chip on their shoulder trying to prove that their will be no drop off after Manziel moved on to the NFL.

“You know, basically, nobody gave us a chance to even be close in this game,”Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin said. “All I heard last week was [we’re] two-touchdown [underdogs] and if we could keep it close it would be great.”

“I think what we did tonight showed that really, we’re not a one-trick pony,”Sumlin said. “You know, we are not anywhere near where we want to be – [but] we’re not going anywhere, anytime soon.”

The Aggies put up 680 yards on South Carolina's offense.

"We got manhandled," South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said. "We got clobbered tonight."

The head ball coach was humbled by the Aggies performance at Columbia.

"That team is so much better than us, it wasn't funny," Spurrier said.

South Carolina fans were a little shell shocked too as this string of sound bites from WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina shows.

As a post script to Kenny Hill's 511 yards passing he becomes the sixth SEC quarterback to surpass 500 yards.  Here's the list:
Eric Zeier - Georgia
Jared Lorenzen - Kentucky
Rohan Davey - LSU
Peyton Manning - Tennessee
Tyler Wilson - Arkansas
Kenny Hill - Texas A&M

ICYMI: Why People Make Fun of Alabama Fans

So, SEC fans, Alabama's in particular wonder why they get a bad name by people in pretty much every area outside the conference or their home state.

This would be why.

The video you are about to see is of what appears to be a rather drunk and crazed Alabama football fan taking a flying leap at an Oklahoma fan at Thursday nights Sugar Bowl game won by Oklahoma in a bit of an upset.

And yes, the woman takes quite the leap:

SI.com's Extra Mustard caught up with the Oklahoma student involved who rather awkwardly explains how the whole thing unfolded.

And while it certainly made him look like a stupid drunk college kid, it in no way was enough to justify what the crazed blond woman did.

Read more from SI.com RIGHT HERE

And note--the woman was apparently there with her two young daughters, not exactly a shining example of how to behave out in public. Oh, and she was tossed out of the game too...

Nick Of Time: A Lesson In Ego And Hubris

Okay, let's go back to the end of it all...
((HT: Auburn Athletics/Auburn IMG Sports Network))

The HQ will readily admit that the refereeing was out of sorts...
Auburn was getting over six yards a carry and decided to go away from that running game- inexplicably...
But, the visitors had more issues...

Cade Foster pull-hooking two field goal attempts and having a third one blocked led to Adam Griffith being the other field goal attempt with :01 left. But it went a little deeper than that...

Earlier in the game after the first miss, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who is notoriously quick-triggered with his kickers, would decide to go for it with a 3-point lead with 5:32 left. That was instead of giving Foster an attempt at getting the Tide a 10-point lead.

Put the game away...???
Nope...

Go for it with a run up the middle that was diagnosed immediately and gave Auburn momentum all over again...

Even as his special teams had failed him three times earlier- two misses and a field goal attempt that was blocked...

But the largest failure was on the Griffith field goal attempt- and the HQ did the math... other than the kicker, going with what CBS color analyst Gary Danielson said: it was just a bunch of fat guys- with the exception of tight end Brian Vogler and two other skill position players...

11 on 7 for a punt return...
You tell me those odds... and it had happened before in the Ess-E-Cee...
Odell Beckham, Junior against UAB
((HT: SEC on ESPN))

And it looked like the UAB players did less watching than the Alabama players did in trying to defense the return once it was on...

So, add it all up...

Whether it's Eli Gold...

Or Uncle Verne...
((HT: SEC on CBS))

Or Rod...

Saban will learn the lesson on his special teams gaffe, but he will still make his kickers walk home...
But, sometimes, the lesson is learned too late to maintain perfection in a self-perfect atmosphere...

Cade Foster has already seen the silliness of fanaticism through his Twitter machine...
Saban shall hear it on sports talk radio for quite some time...

But, he has already moved on... he's getting ready for his bowl game... and (insert divine being here) help his opponent... unless there's a repeat of the Utah Sugar Bowl game...

And the second-best decision that Auburn AD Jay Jacobs has ever made...???
Opening the gates and getting the white jackets out of the way to focus on not getting his head coach, players, and television live shots from getting trampled...

"I'm A Bielemer" Razorback Fans Say

[HT: kegsneggsblog.com]

Here's some Razorback fans known as "The Bros" stealing the classic Monkees song "I'm A Believer" and turning that into this classic.

I'm sure Davy Jones is spinning in his grave right now.  Mickey Dolenz just puked. Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema is disturbed.

As a Razorback fan myself I love the passion, but do you want this video to go viral.  Maybe "The Bros" can perform this gem at halftime at the season opener against Louisiana.

Here's the classic Monkees tune "The Bros" destroyed.

SEC Media Days Day #3: Nick Saban is Like Hitler

((ht: al.com))

The circus known as SEC Media Days has officially come to an end. Nobody was injured in the scrum, at least that we were aware of, but several slightly odd things came out of an event that is uniquely Alabamian.

Where as Day #1 featured Florida coach Will Muschamp taking a few thinly veiled swipes at former coach Urban Meyer and Meyer's new school Ohio State, Day #2 was highlighted by Javedon Clowney with a wink and smile telling the assembled masses that most of the SEC's quarterbacks and Clemson's Tajh Boyd are all afraid of him.

And then there was Day #3.

Among the highlights. Our favorite, Les Miles, going all-Les on a variety of topics:

((thanks XOSSports))

And Georgia QB Aaron Murray who, along with Coach Mark Richt, found Clowney's comments pretty funny:

And then the quote of the day courtesy of the huddled masses waiting for the star of the day, Alabama Coach Nick Saban. When asked about his coach, an Alabama fan named Lee Allen made a bit of an unfortunate analogy, comparing him to "Hitler", telling AL.com reporter Jon Solomon; "He's kind of like Hitler, he's a dictator. He brought us back to the top and I figure we're going to be here for awhile"

Read Solomon's entire article on the goings on RIGHT HERE

Having worked SEC Media days several times over the course of our career, nothing that comes out of it is surprising. With over 1200 huddled media members and hundreds of fans crammed into a small portion of the Winfrey Hotel, the event is literally like a traveling circus with both media types and fans falling all over each other trying to see or talk to their favorite coach or player.

If you've never been and are a football fan, we recommend going at least once. It's a sight and experience you just can't get anywhere else. If you want to see a slice of the U.S Sports Nation these days, there is no better place then outside Birmingham, Alabama. If you want to see the theater of the absurd in the same place, you can easily kill two birds with one stone, right there...
