Fun With The Alabama Board Of Trustees- UAB and UAH

It's the last-ditch effort to try and save Alabama-Huntsville Chargers hockey and there is, now, some influence being exuded on the state representative level...

Here's the update from Huntsville...
 

Down in Birmingham, the vote was a big "no" to get the UAB program its own $75-million on-campus stadium instead of playing in the continually-decrepit Legion Field. The Board of Trustees claimed that there wasn't enough fan support to make the idea stick long-term...

Which, really seems true...

So, now we have a protest... and a busing to the meeting in Tuscaloosa...

Alabama-Huntsville Downgrades D1 Hockey Program

The UAH Chargers have been on life support for a long while, and the school's new Chancellor has decided to save money and downgrade the program to club status after this season.

The school was the southern-most point for Division 1 hockey in the United States and was set to sponsor the Frozen Four at the Ice Forum in Tampa this year. After the school was bumped out of the CHA conference, they were looking for a new home and no other hockey conference would open their doors.

Here's the death-knell...


The larger question comes from Chancellor Malcom Portera, who isn't answering any questions, about the future of an athletic program and the proposition that the Board of Trustees is disconnected from their Huntsville campus
