OSG High: Baseball Coach Suspended For 17-Minute Rant

La Mirada (CA) High baseball coach Kim Brooks is now on paid administrative leave two days before the Matadores first playoff game because a 17-minute locker room rant surfaced and the language was pretty choice.

There are a lot of f-bombs, pipe bombs, and standard motivation techniques involved. It appears that one of his players recorded it (which took up a boat load of gig space on whatever device was used) and it went viral.

It was confirmed by the school district that the voice was that of the coach and he admitted to the Whittier newspaper that his language was "inappropriate."

The District released their own statement:

"The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District has received a copy of a recording of high school teacher, baseball coach, and Athletic Director Thomas Brooks. The District appreciates the serious nature of the content of the recording, and as such is conducting a full investigation into the matter. Pending completion of the investigation, Mr. Brooks will remain on paid administrative leave in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation process."

AZ High School forfets state title rather than play team with girl

You know, there are times where you realize there are still large chunks of people in this world who have yet to evolve out of the 1800's.

We couldn't believe this story...until we read it.

Apparently an Arizona catholic school forfeited their Arizona Charter Athletic Association state title game because the team they were slated to play had a girl playing 2nd base.

Yeah..that's right. A girl.

The school, ironically some might say, named "Our Lady of Sorrows" is a fundamentalist Catholic school that steadfastly hold to the belief a woman's place is not on an athletic field.

We really feel bad for the 15-year old girl, Paige Sultzbach, who according to the story is only on the Mesa Preparatory School boys team because the school doesn't have a girls softball team. She apparently didn't play the 2-times the schools competed during the season because she wanted to respect Our Lady of the Sorrows beliefts.

However, Paige didn't want to miss the state championship, a game that is now not going to be played.

For their part, Our Lady of the Sorrows has been pretty mute about the whole thing other than to say they will release a statement later.

This is a tough call.

While respecting the rights of people to believe what they want to believe and what makes them happy, it becomes an issue when it crosses into real life. We have the utmost respect for religious beliefs and thought, but there comes a time where you have to progress with the rest of the world.

We will steer clear of politics and the influence of religion here, but we actually respect Our Lady of the Sorrows right to believe what they believe. We may not agree with it, but we don't have to . It's just unfortunate that it came into play in this type of situation and no matter what anyone decides to do here, they are going to come out looking bad.
