Carlos Puyol's Arm Goes A Direction Not Normal (UPDATED)

((HT: UEFA/youtube))

It's the Group stage for the UEFA Champions League and FC Barcelona was playing Benfica in Portugal. After a bit of a slow start, Barca was motoring right along with a lead and tried to cement the three points away.

Puyol goes up for a header when... in the 78th minute...

Obviously, he's out for this weekend's La Liga match against Real Madrid, the "El Clasico." And after his leg injuries that kept him off the pitch for quite some time in the last season, this really is a downer for Puyol and the Barca fans...

More when we know more, but this looks like it has dislocation written all over it.

Wednesday UPDATE: Yep, it was dislocated...

According to the FC Barcelona website...

"The club captain will undergo conservative treatment and is expected to be out for about eight weeks."

Two Balls On The Pitch, One Goal Scored...

((HT: youtube))

And for this, we go to the Finnish soccer league...

It's a normal every day Fixture 26 on the league between Haka (who dress kinda like their Kiwi brethren) and HJK Helsinki...

HJK is at the top of the table while Haka are somewhere in the middle. And with HJK having won the last three matches between the two, you had the feeling that it would go their way...

But not entirely...

Tied at ones, an interesting goal came about from a bit of confusion and extra-cooperation from ball boys on the scene...

Pay close attention...

The goal made it 2-1 HJK, but Haka scored the karmic equalizer for the 2-2 final...

'Tis The Election Season: NDSU Players Guilty Of Fraud

((HT: Valleynewslive.com))

North Dakota State's Bison are the top-ranked team in Division I-AA and they now have a lot of players who, until they complete their community service and probation periods, are in a lot of deep doo-doo.

Ten North Dakota State University football players pleaded guilty to misdemeanor election (petition) fraud and were sentenced to community service for faking signatures. Three former players and two other individuals were also charged in the case.

Here's the technical stuff:

The players all were charged with one count of "violating election law" by adding thousands of names to petitions trying to get votes on the November ballot for legalizing marijuana and establishing an outdoor heritage fund.

The charge is a "Class A" misdemeanor.

The players were told by the company that hired them that they would only get paid a certain amount of money if they made their daily signature quota. The names on the petition were, apparently, either made up or copied out of the phone book. One news report even had the name "Hillary Rodham" on the petition and listed Rodham's address as the White House...

Yeah, that won't bring up any questions or anything...

Here's how Fargo is covering the story...
Valley News Live - KVLY/KXJB - Fargo/Grand Forks

Three Bison players have previous misdemeanors and they were the sticking point for sentencing, but the state has agreed that all community service has to be completed by mid-April...

tOSU's Stillwagon Arrested In Alleged Road Rage Incident

((HT: WBNS-TV Columbus))

Jim Stillwagon was a part of the 1968 National Championship squad at Ohio State University. But now he's more known for a road rage incident in Delaware that may have spanned as much as 16 miles before it came to a close.

That close may have included Stillwagon getting into a fight with the other driver that resulted in a struggle over a gun and the other driver getting grazed in the head with a discharged bullet.

Stillwagon was jailed on a felonious assault charge and had bond set at $350,000 in municipal court. His court date is set for October 10th.

Here's the latest from Columbus...

It is believed that Stillwagon didn't know the driver of the other car and that the whole chase began when one driver may have cut off the other.

OSG High: Increased Security Seen For Warren-Hancock Rematch

((HT: WJBF-TV Augusta))

The HQ has followed what happened at last year's Hancock Central (Sparta, GA)- Warren County (GA) game and all of its aftermath...

Warren County's head coach, David Daniel, had to resign just before the beginning of the season because he is still battling the injuries he sustained when he was pearl-harbored by a helmet in a post-game brawl.

The Georgia High School Association put Hancock on two year's "severe warning status," issued a fine, and had them come up with a security plan for future events.

And the mess is far from being solved...

The follow-up piece that ran on Georgia Public Broadcasting at halftime of the "Football Fridays" broadcast can be found below...

Steve Spurrier vs. Local Columnist: He really believes this is heat?

Whiny Bitch
We didn't really touch on this story last week, and maybe we should have. It appears that the man with the thinnest skin in College Football has made an issue over a critical columnist in his local paper.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier thinks that The State (Columbia, SC) columnist Ron Morris has some sort of ax to grind with him. The latest reason: Spurrier taking umbrage with Morris critiquing some of Spurrier's decisions.

And Spurrier blew a gasket.

He's accused Morris of slandering him. He's accused him of having an ax to grind. He's accused Morris of trying to run him out of town. And he's blamed Morris for making him cancel a press conference before the Kentucky game two weeks ago.

(Note--This isn't the first time Spurrier took his ball and went home because of Morris's presence)

And Morris, who is perfectly in his rights to be critical of the coach, did something kind of stupid last week. In an attempt to explain what was happening, he compared Spurrier's power in Columbia to the Penn State scandal.

Bad move.

Anyone who has ever dealt with Spurrier knows how thin his skin is. He's the life of the party when his team wins and plays well. But he's also the "Guy who can laugh at others but not himself".

And he's using all of this to make stupid threats. Spurrier has gone on record, telling a local radio station that the University president and the publisher of the paper have talked and this will be taken care of. Spurrier has gone on to whine that "If Morris stays, I might have to just head to the beach". He also said that he wouldn't have taken the job if he knew he had to deal with Morris.

OKAY....ENOUGH!!!

We kind of summarized the alleged "Feud" here because it just gets stupider the more you read about it. Really, Spurrier is pissed because one columnist questions him? Boy he wouldn't last long in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, Knoxville or any other SEC outpost.

The problem is he has so much "Power" that everyone in Columbia is on his side. And he's wrong. It's not the Newspaper's job...or the public's job to agree with everything he says. Spurrier is taking advantage of the fact he's winning right now. And the Ass-Clowns in Columbia are ready to burn Morris at the stake because of it.

These days, it's a popular game to blame the media for everything that's wrong. From political candidates who say that the media is conspiring against them if they aren't winning, to poor-defenseless football coaches who think that nobody dare question them.

And the public buys into it. The fan base doesn't seem to care if their "Hero" does wrong. Heck, the hero doesn't even have to tell the truth anymore. The public wants their hero to be able to do whatever they want until they do something wrong. And then and only then do they want it to be reported on. All the "Fans" want is this: "We won!" "How great and perfect are we?"

If Spurrier had his way, the headline would be something like this:

"Spurrier Calls Perfect Game, Gamecocks Win 88-0"

Dateline: Columbia, SC

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, the greatest coach in football history called every play perfectly, leading his team to an 88-0 win over Georgia Saturday.

Carolina looked like they could score and did score every time they had the ball and held the Georgia defense to 3 and out on every series.

Said Spurrier, "We're getting better, but we still have some work to do to be perfect"

Georgia had only 3 yards rushing and 3 yards passing during the game.

Spurrier as he is wont to do, praised his offense as well. "We were great today" We did everything well" "I'm proud of our kids".

Faithful Gamecock fans stayed and cheered throughout the whole game, something Spurrier couldn't have been more happy about.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Possible Real Game story:

"Georgia Holds off Carolina 28-26"

The Georgia Bulldogs held off a mistake prone South Carolina Gamecock team that committed 10 turnovers.

Said Bulldog coach Mark Richt: "We were fortunate they had trouble executing plays. And when we had the ball, they had trouble stopping us"

The Bulldogs ran up 527 yards of total offense against a Gamecock defense that had trouble stopping the run.

Richt: "We could have scored more if we held on to the ball"

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier stormed out of his press conference when a writer, not from Columbia, asked about his teams poor performance. Said Spurrier: "Why do you have such an ax to grind against us?" "Our kids played horribly, but you can't ask me about that."

By the end of the game, which was closer than it should have been, the Williams-Brice crowd had thinned to only a handful of supporters, eager to see if the home team could come back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which version sounds more likely here? If Spurrier were to be believed, Carolina fans would only hear about version 1--no matter what happened.

So think about it Gamecock fan. Do you really want the Sugar-Coated "Ain't we great" version every day, all the time? Or do you want the truth? Do you want someone to say, "Hey what happened? Why didn't we do this?"

We aren't saying Morris is perfect, but this is all about the premise and not anything else.

For you Steven Orr Spurrier:

Colts Pagano Diagnosed With Leukemia

((HT: SiriusXM))

The Indianapolis Colts had a press conference earlier this morning to disclose that head coach Chuck Pagano is fighting leukemia and will be away from coaching for the forseeable future...

Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians has been named the interim head coach and was the one speaking for Pagano at the presser. He is a cancer survivor himself.

"These first few days are really hard on you," Arians said. "Today's about Chuck."

Pagano was evaluated for bruising, which eventually uncovered the leukemia.

"He wants to deal with this challenge in a very forthright fashion," said Dr. Larry Cripe, Pagano's doctor.

Pagano has acute promyelocytic leukemia, which is a cancer of the bone marrow.

Here's Pagano with Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo catching up with the coach on Radio Row discussing how he got the Colts gig...

Cripe gave the word "favorable" when discussing remission...
