Never complain publicly about the football team if you aren't on the football team. That would be the assumption based on the University of Tennessee putting it's Band Director on leave for doing just that.
Gary Sousa complained publicly the "Pride of the Southland Band" was getting it's role diminished in the football teams games both home and away.
For their part, the school didn't take the complaints very well and denied Sousa's claims the Band had a diminished role in gameday activity.
Well, actually, they pretty much called it insubordination.

It's kind of odd, the long-time director of the band would come out all of a sudden and complain about something like this, don't you think?
Though he should have realized it probably wasn't going to go over so well.
Without going to or attending a Tennessee game this season, it's hard to drum up any sort of commentary about the issue. The only thing we'd add, is while Sousa may be right--or may not, as a school employee, you can't complain about such things publicly.
You never win.
Especially at an SEC Football factory where pretty much everything in, at or surrounding the school revolves around one thing---Football....
