The first steps came in the administrative leave and, then, resignation of Walker Head Coach John Holladay...
Now, we know the rest...
The Alabama High School Athletic Association has placed Walker High School on a restrictive probation, fined the school $1,500 and also placed John Holladay on a one-year suspension. Cullman's defensive coordinator Matt Hopper was also suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season, and Cullman was fined $1,500 and placed on non-restrictive probation.
Under the restrictive probation, Walker is also banned from post-season play this year.
The HQ immediately finds the Hopper suspension strange considering all he seems to be doing is reaching for a postgame handshake before his face kept running into Holladay's fist...
“The AHSAA encourages the two schools to work together to enhance relations between their student-athletes and communities and, in doing so, demonstrate the leadership necessary to foster the AHSAA’s mission of good sportsmanship in interscholastic athletics,” said AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese in a statement.
“It is time to move the focus away from this isolated event and note the outstanding sportsmanship that is exhibited across our state by our member schools, teams and coaches each week. Let’s now move forward and accent the positive impact education-based athletics makes daily in the lives of our student-athletes, coaches, schools and communities.”

OSG High: Walker High Names Interim Head Coach After Brawl (UPDATE W/Resignation)

Walker High School has named offensive assistant Heath Brunner as interim coach in the stead of John Holladay while the investigation is still ongoing in the brawl between Cullman and Walker High's football teams last Friday night.
From Bentley:
“Coach Brunner is the interim coach, but I think this staff is cohesive enough to where several guys could fill in,” Jasper Schools AD Jimmie Alexander said. “Coach Holladay is an offensive coach and Brunner runs the offense. This is temporary until we find out what we can from the state. Someone had to be named (head coach) to carry on with the team. I sure hope our season is not over.”
The Alabama High School Athletic Association will be discussing the brawl with Cullman officials today to determine their side of the story. The prevailing thought is that either or both teams may not be allowed into the post season as a first punishment.

OSG High: 67 Ejections In One Game...

It came from a game in Birmingham between Huffman and Jackson-Olin that resulted in $22,100 in fines (that could be reduced to $7,700 if all players that were ejected participate in a sportsmanship course) after 2 Huffman players were ejected and had 43 follow them onto the field of play from the sidelines- a NHSAA violation.
At $300 per kid that came off the sideline...
Jackson-Olin also had two players ejected for fighting and 20 of their players jumped off the sidelines. The school was also fined $300 per kid that left the sidelines...
Both teams were given forfeit losses instead of one school winning and one losing per the score on the scoreboard... since there were not enough eligible players left after the ejections...
Got all that...???
Here was the early comment from the AHSAA, the governing body of high school athletics in the state:
"The Huffman High School vs. Jackson-Olin High School football game played Friday night in Birmingham was terminated in the third quarter following a bench-clearing altercation," the release read. "This flagrant unsportsmanlike incident included players on the field from both teams and all substitutes from both team benches.
"The contest officials determined that the game should be terminated and a double forfeiture awarded to both teams since neither team had enough eligible players remaining to complete the contest. The AHSAA has scheduled a meeting with both schools Monday morning to evaluate and review the game film and determine the appropriate sanctions to be imposed on the schools."

OSG High: Busy Day In Alabama- Ineligibility And Lawsuits

The HQ told you last week about the case of Alabama high school Clay-Chalkville and their discussion over whether or not they're going to be in the playoffs with an ineligibility issue...
They got a court injunction that told the Alabama High School Athletic Association ((AHSAA)) to put them back in the playoffs, leaving Gadsden High School out.
But...
Gadsden got a ruling from an Etowah County judge telling the AHSAA to put them in and leave Clay-Chalkville out. As a result, the AHSAA is asking the state supreme court to step in and sort this out.
If they don't, the AHSAA 's attorney thinks the playoffs for all 6A classification teams would have to be delayed because the AHSAA can't put either team in.
Both teams are practicing as normal this week...
Also, there's another eligibility issue this week with a star player and his playoff game.
Dixie Heights ((KY)) QB, Zeke Pike, and two others have been given a one-game suspension after violating team rules. This comes just days before the first playoff game of the season against Lafayette-Lexington ((KY)).
Pike is considered the star of Auburn's 2012 recruiting class. Pike verbally committed to Auburn in April but will not be able to sign a letter of intent until February.
Zeke Pike is the son of Mark Pike, a former NFL player.

Dixie Heights High School Coach Tom Spritzky also had "no comment" on the suspension.
An email was sent to parents of Dixie Heights School football players about this incident. In this email, the principal states that using synthetic marijuana is legal, however, it has been banned in Kentucky. Here is a copy of the email:

There was a concern brought to my attention about an alleged incident in the locker room prior to the football game at Cooper last night.
Mr. Rick Culross, DPP was contacted for guidance on investigating the incident. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Kim Banta was available and met me at Dixie this morning at 9am to assist. We spoke with the coaches prior to the players arriving and they separated the players in the auditorium and their cell phones were collected to keep them from communicating before they were interviewed so that Dr. Banta and I could speak with the players individually. We called them in one at a time and interviewed 22 total players. After each interview the player's cell phone was returned and the player was free to leave.
Please be aware that there is rumor that students may be using synthetic marijuana that although it is legal (18 years of age) is still very dangerous for their health. Feel free to Google it for more information on its affects.http://www.thestate.com/2011/10/25/2022014/sc-bans.html
The coaches and myself are available to talk if needed. To protect the player's confidentiality we can only discuss the process, not individual comments.

So, whaddya think REALLY happened...???

OSG High: Thursday Night In Alabama

First and foremost, the HQ would like to thank everyone at Phil Campbell ((AL)) High
School for their hospitality and understanding of their being subjects of an upcoming OSG project...
Head football coach Bo Culver, all of 27 years old and full of "Yes, sirs" the entire evening, played rival Hackleburg at a remodeled Parrish Stadium last night on the high school grounds.
The school is in need of repair still as the only lights on in the building are in the library and the environment is still a little surreal with sawed-off trees on the property. The Bobcats showed a lot of fight for a group of 35- losing 34-20.
But that's not what it's about at all...
And, from Birmingham, the families of Clay-Chalkville High School held a prayer vigil last night during and after their win over Spain Park in the hopes that the AHSAA would flip their opinion on the ineligibility of a former Huffman High ((AL)) player that may cost CCHS nine wins and a playoff appearance.
Jefferson County ((AL)) School Superintendent Phil Hammonds and CCHS Football Coach Jerry Hood told the AHSAA that Huffman should have told them earlier.
Hood says he would not jeopardize 83 players for one part time player. He also said the player in question has now been kicked off football team for lying.
