We aren't quite sure what to make of this.
In light of the NFL's worst week ever and the domestic abuse problems that Ray Rice and others have shown on the league, there may be more.
The family of Rasheedah Watley came forward with noted lawyer Gloria Allred in Atlanta Wednesday afternoon charging Roger Goodell, the NFL and the Denver Broncos (team at the time) essentially let receiver Brandon Marshall off easy after a long history of abusing Watley. He also spoke about a letter he sent to the NFL and how they essentially did not respond to him.
Along with the family, a friend Kristeena Spivey came out and spoke of an incident in 2009 where Marshall is alleged to have rammed her car and threw a concrete brick through the windshield. Marshall had initially been suspended for 3 games, that suspension was reduced to 1 game.
Watley's father Clarence spoke at length about the history between his daughter and Marshall dating back to Marshall's time at UCF in 2006 and supposedly dating back as far as the 8th grade.
Pro Football Talk reminds us what happened in 2009 RIGHT HERE
It should be noted, in 2009, Watley and Marshall's lawyers exchanged e-mails asking for 6-figures to make this all go away and not press charges.
The whole sordid affair was part of an ESPN Outside the Lines episode back in 2009.
For her part, Allred and Watley's father are calling for Roger Goodell's head. For which they can add their names to the list. The question that many people have today though is: Why bring this up now?
Is it the timing?
We don't dispute that Marshall may have done some horrible things and deserved to be punished more effectively 5-years ago. But he wasn't. And Allred and the Watley's may have a legitimate beef here, we don't doubt that either. If Marshall did what he was alleged to do at that time, he most definitely deserved a stiffer penalty. And yeah, more than likely, the NFL didn't handle it well. It's now been documented as to how bad they've handled domestic violence cases in the past.
But why bring it up now?
There have been multiple opportunities to discuss this, to bring it up in the open over the years, before and after this incident took place. And it wasn't. Unfortunately, while a horrible issue that should have been addressed at the time wasn't, bringing it up TODAY smacks of opportunism.
Allred says it's about what the NFL should do in the future.
There are no charges filed here and there are no investigations involved. So why are we now talking about this today? It smells an awful lot like the set-up to a lawsuit.
Here's the latest from the presser

Brandon Marshall and Warren Sapp feud gets nasty
Whoa now! Settle down boys.
It appears NFL Network analyst and former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Warren Sapp and Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall don't like each other.
Apparently on Friday, Sapp went on the Dan Patrick show and tore into Marshall about comments allegedly made towards Shannon and Sterling Sharpe. Sapp accused Marshall of not respecting his elders (polite version) and called him several un-polite names in the process included "Retarded".
Marshall appears to have gotten wind of Sapp's comments. And was none too pleased. He voiced his thoughts on Mr. Sapp via YouTube. They were personal....and they were not very complementary.
Okay now.
Reports say Sapp is now aware of Marshall's rebuttal and is angry enough to threaten to kick Marshall's ass.
We are guessing that Sapp's employer, the NFL Network will not pleased about this. Nor should they be. Sapp is already on thin ice after wrongfully accusing Panthers TE Jeremy Shockey of being the NFL's imformant on the Saints NFL Bounty program.

In case you missed it: Brandon Marshall to Chicago but there is a catch
((ht: nypost.com))
On the surface, it was a trade that made us ((well...ok...me)) say "Huh"? The Miami Dolphins trade their best receiver and one of the best in the NFL to the Chicago Bears for a couple of 3rd round picks.
Yes, Marshall has a somewhat "Shady" reputation due to multiple run-ins with the law.
And he has apparently added to that list.
Today's (Wed.) New York Post reports Marshall was involved in an altercation at a Chelsea (New York City) night club early Sunday morning.
The report says he is accused of hitting a woman in the eye.
This is an issue because he is already in trouble with the NFL for past indiscretions, most involving domestic violence with his wife.
The Post's story on the arrest is RIGHT HERE
Now...
Both the Dolphins and Bears claim they were aware of this incident. We and many other outlets don't necessarily believe that.
The incident opens Marshall up to suspension due to the NFL's Player Personal Conduct Policy since he is a repeat offender. That could mean the Bears would be without him for a few games. And if the Dolphins knew and the Bears didn't...well, we find that fairly amusing.

Brandon Marshall's Wife Didn't Stab Him...
((HT: Sun-Sentinel Newspaper))
At least that's what he says right now, anyway...
Remember, back on April 22 his wife, Michi Nogami-Marshall, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery for allegedly stabbing him in the abdomen. She returned to jail six weeks later for violating a protection order when local authorities found out she was living in their south Florida home.
But Marshall says April didn't happen...
Omar Kelly caught up with him in the Boston suburbs where he's been working out these last few months...
Here's the file on the arrest from April, thanks to our friends at the Sun-Sentinel...
