"Dogs Dodge A Bullet From Hogs, Mississippi State Keeps Winning

Dan Mullen After Arkansas Game
It may not have been pretty for #1 Mississippi State but the Bulldogs will take it.

“A win is a win, man,” Mississippi State defensive lineman Chris Jones said.

The Bulldogs were not their sharpest showed a quality that most championship teams display when it's not all clicking, showing the will to win and succeeding.

"As coaches, we all know how hard it is to win in this league."  Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen said.  "That was a huge win for our team tonight against an excellent Arkansas football team. Fortunately we were able to make one more play there at the end of the game. Our guys are finding ways to win, and that’s all that matters.”

"Give a lot of credit to Mississippi State."  Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema said.  "They’re a very, very good football team and are deserving of their number one ranking."

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott did exploit Arkansas' secondary torching the Hogs with his first 300 yard passing game of his career.  Prescott threw for 331 yards and his only touchdown pass of the game, a 69 yard strike to Fred Ross was the game winner.

“We had to make a play, and the line did a good job and held up." Prescott said.  "I just got out of the pocket and Fred Ross got open. That could be a Heisman moment for him but I didn’t do much there.”

"He knows we have great confidence in him." Mullen said.  "He expects to make plays. The great thing about him is that he’s going to study the film and learn from it and not make mistakes a second time.”

Mississippi State's win streak has now reached 11 second behind Florida State who has won 24 in a row.

Now mighty Alabama is next for Missisiippi State in Tuscaloosa.

You think Maroon Madness will swarm T-Town?

Two More Bowls With 40-Plussers In Memphis and El Paso

((HT: ESPN))

Logan be Logan and questions, the HQ is sure, will arise about Bud Foster now after what happened in El Paso as UCLA took Virginia Tech from one end of the field to the other in the Sun Bowl.

Brett Hundley ran for 86 yards on one score- good enough to be the longest in Bruin history...and his 387 yards of total offense is the best in school history as well...

Here's Ralph with your wrap

In Memphis, it was confirmed that Miss State head coach Dan Mullen still has plenty to learn about coaching decorum and the code in the Liberty Bowl- winning 44-7. With the game in hand, Mullen decided to run a trick play to try and get more points on the board.

Thankfully, for karma's sake, it didn't work up 34 at the time...

Here's the game for you to judge

Dak Prescott, pretty much, had his way with the Rice defense- who learned that Conference USA football and Ess-E-Cee football are completely and totally different despite a tremendous year...

Here's Prescott completing a 65-yarder late in the second quarter as Rice's defense over-pursues Jameon Lewis

ICYMI: Turkey Day Football: Miss St. Wins Egg Bowl in OT

What would the day after Thanksgiving be without some College Football recaps?

Last night, while you were sleeping off your Turkey coma, Mississippi State beat Ole Miss 17-10 in Overtime to take the Egg Bowl title.

The Bulldogs, who evened their record at 6-6 needed a heroic rescue from injured QB Dak Prescott to get the win. Coach Dan Mullen called on Prescott who had a left shoulder injury to come in and lead a 4th quarter comeback, which he did by leading the team down field, the drive capped by a 36-yard field goal Evan Sobiesk.

That tied the game at 10 and with the Bulldogs facing a 4th and 1 at the 3 yard line in the 1st overtime, Prescott pulled out some magic, scoring what would be the game winner on a sneak.

Ole Miss got the ball close on their possession, but QB Bo Wallace fumbled and the ball was recovered by Mississippi State in the end zone to end things.

ESPN give us the highlights (there weren't many)

Report: NCAA investigating Miss St. (Strange Doings)

((ht: cdispatch.com))

This is interesting on several levels.

According to the Dispatch in Starkville, Mississippi, it appears the NCAA may be investigating Mississippi State over the purchase of a car for incoming freshman DB Will Redmond.

Redmond, who is from the Memphis area, allegedly got a Ford Mustang from a Memphis area used car dealership before he signed with Miss. St. in February.

The investigation forced the sudden resignation of Bulldog assistant Angelo Mirando who supposedly was only involved in the recruitment of one player.

Redmond was recently replaced by former Minnesota Head Coach Tim Brewster.

Read more from the Dispatch RIGHT HERE

The school and coach Dan Mullen haven't said much. They just say they've been cooperating with the NCAA in investigating a potential recruiting irregularity.

There are a couple of things that standout here. One, if Mirando suddenly resigned like this just before the season, something was wrong. Two, where there's smoke there is almost always fire. We get the school going on media lockdown, but things are leaking out.

One other thing to note, a separate report in the Memphis Commercial Appeal mentions the head coach of Redmond's 7 on 7 team has been questioned by the NCAA as well. And you can draw the line yourself, but that same team also featured Auburn running back Jovon Robinson. Robinson's recruitment is also under investigation by the NCAA.

Ess-E-Cee Media Day Two: Another Five Schools Parade

((HT: WVTM-TV Birmingham))

Another five coaches decided to parade themselves in front of the more-than-1,100 media folks in suburban Birmingham...

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik was found wearing an orange-striped, pinstriped suit in front of all the lights there...

The HQ will give Chiz props for thanking everyone for doing their part on the incident in Auburn on June 9th. Here's some of his highlights...

Joker Phillips stood in front of the throng trying to make a poiont about drafting his future successes for the football team by using the obvious example- the UK basketball team...

MJ Perino has Joker's wild...
((HT: WLEX-TV Lexington))
LSU head coach Les Miles got to trot out new starting QB Zach Mettenberger- who the HQ knows all the way from his days at Oconee County High School. Miles had his pound of fun with the media, but he did not eat any grass or air clap in his suit... ((HT: WBRZ-TV Baton Rouge)) John L. Smith took the podium and wanted to reinforce his idea of taking an opportunity from Utah State to wander back and take over for Robert Petrino, Esq. He wants us all to know that he wants his players to make sure their piss is hot going into this season... ((HT: KTHV-TV/TodaysTHV.com Little Rock)) And, fifth and not necessarily last was Dan Mullen- the head coach at Mississippi State. He wants to make sure that his defense is the same- if not better and his offense behaves better than it did last year. ((HT: WJTV/Jackson, MS))
