The HQ told you that Baylor's Isaiah Austin was diagnosed with Marfan's Syndrome about a week ago. The college star that had built a career after losing the sight in one eye has to stop playing altogether.
In another classy, stand-up move by new NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, the league did something very special for Austin at this year's NBA Draft.
The HQ thought that the only thing better would have been for the World Champs to pick him up in the Second Round themselves.
But a classy move nonetheless...

Isaiah Austin's Career Over After Marfan Diagnosis... A Team Should Draft Him Anyway
((HT: ESPN))
Isaiah Austin has overcome a lot to be a tremendous college basketball player- losing the sight out of an eye at the age of 8 and having to deal with all the stigma that comes with it. But keeping the loss of sight out of the public discussion until only recently has reinforced the public opinion that the Baylor player really is someone that is to be admired.
After his red-shirt sophomore season, he declared for the NBA Draft. But a diagnosis of Marfan's Syndrome has taken his dream and stopped it four days before the draft.
Here's Holly Rowe's interview with Austin after his mother broke the news to him
The HQ hopes that a franchise will draft Austin in the second round and make him an ambassador of the sport for their franchise.
San Antonio would make a great example of it...
Just thinking out loud...

Jabari Parker Is Going To NBA, Will Enter NBA Draft
Is anyone surprised Jabari Parker would enter the 2014 NBA draft?
After the year Parker had for Duke he was ready to go.
Duke University has announced that Parker will forgo his college eligibility and entire the NBA Draft.
Here's Parker explaining his decision. Thanks SI.com
Parker won the 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year award averaging 19.7 points per game, second in the ACC in scoring. He averaged 8.7 rebounds per game.
"Jabari could not have been better. He is the epitome of what you would want a basketball player to be – outstanding everyday on the practice court and in the classroom and a very humble young man,” Krzyzewski said in a statement. “He had a fantastic freshman year and is so deserving of the opportunity to play in the NBA and follow his dream."
While it was a tough decision for Parker he's ready to make this step.

Charlotte Bobcat Fans Not Happy With Cody Zeller Pick
[HT: Charlotte Observer and sportsgrid.com)
This was the reaction of Charlotte Bobcat fans when Cody Zeller was announced as the teams first round pick.
It wasn't a particularly popular pick to Charlotte Observer columnist Tom Sorensen.
Sorensen writes: But is this what they need? My column is not long enough, this sports section not large enough and my fingers not agile enough to list all that the Bobcats need.
They especially need a big man who imposes himself on a defense. Zeller, 20, was not that guy at Indiana. He was not so tough in the tough Big Ten last season. He was not so tough in Indiana’s meek NCAA tournament loss to Syracuse.
Zeller was projected as a 7-12 pick in the numerous mock drafts. The Bobcats had a different take selecting the former Indiana Hooiser at #4.
General manager Rich Cho is in full spin mode to the Bobcat fan base.
“The fans are going to love this guy." Cho said. "He’s a worker. You’ll see why we chose Cody as the fourth pick.”
Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins added; "“I want to ask them to give Cody an opportunity to show he’s a very good player. To give the Bobcats a chance to help him be a great player. We’re very excited.”

DEVELOPING: Nerlens Noel Out For Season
((HT: Julie Quittner))
For the five of you that haven't seen this yet... here's the injury that put Noel out of the Florida game and out of the season...
Now, we all know the actual damage- even as Noel is set to be a lottery pick in the NBA Draft afterone year less than one year in Lexington...
Torn ACL, out for the season...
Coach Cal said in a few Tweets:
"Obviously this is not a career-ending injury and it's one that athletes bounce back from all the time."
"The good news is he is insured, so he would have been fine even if the injury would have been worse."
"The way he is already dealing with this injury lets me know that he is going to come back stronger than ever."
"I met with Nerlens earlier today. The meeting was really positive, and I loved his attitude."
"I've been coaching for 22 years and this is the first injury we've had of this kind during the season, which makes it even more devastating."
Here was the nervous anticipation in and around campus
((HT: WLEX-TV))
And here is the current vibe on the continuing coverage... ((HT: Broadway Video/NBC))

Snide David Stern chides Jim Rome on Radio
Uh...a professional sports commissioner should know better than to get into a silly argument/debate with a talk radio host.
Especially when that host is trying to take the high road and ask a question that quite a few people want to know the answer to.
This afternoon on Jim Rome's radio show, NBA commissioner David Stern was Romie's guest. And Rome asked him...very respectfully...about the recent NBA Draft lottery.
Rome wanted to know more about how the New Orleans Hornets, a team currently owned by the league until a sale to Tom Benson is complete, managed to get the #1 draft pick in this years draft, despite not having the league's worst record.
He wanted to know what conspiracy theorists and even NBA journalists wanted to know...was it fixed? But to Rome's credit, he qualified it before asking.
Stern's response "Have you stopped beating your wife?"
Really?
Come on David Stern, you are better than that.
Yeah, it's a question that was very hypothetical, but you were not attacked. You were not provoked. You were given every opportunity to give a rational, well-thought response.
Yet you didn't.

Tar Heel Trio Leaving For The NBA
North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has some rebuilding to do.
Carolina already lost starting center Tyler Zeller since he was a senior. Now Jon Henson, Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall will enter the NBA draft.
Henson won back to back ACC defensive player of the year awards in 2011 and 2012.
Barnes was a pre-season first team all-american before he suited up in North Carolina's baby blues. He may not have lit up college basketball as was unrealistically expected but Barnes did have a great Carolina career.
Marshall turned out to live up to the hype at point guard. This season Marshall set an ACC single season record in assists with 351, fourth most in NCAA history. That earned Marshall the Bob Cousy award as the nations top point guard.
