The HQ always wonders aloud why refs and other officials never just let goalies go if they want to scrap...
Earlier this week in the big leagues, Marc Andre Fleury wanted to go with Peter Budaj, but the zebras stepped in...
((HT: Some Hockey Videos/TSN))
Last night, we got a longer version of the above...
And we actually got some action...
AHL... SWB and Norfolk...
Jeff Deslauriers and John Gibson...

Here's how it was looked at locally...
((HT: WTKR-TV))
See...??? We told you it was better- even if it was briefer...

AHL Game-Winning Goal Shoulda Been Wiped Out...
((HT: The AHL their own selves))
Here's how last night's game ended...
((HT: CBSSN/AHL/youtube))
The Norfolk Admirals get a 1-0 win and a 3-0 series lead off the fluke goal over the Marlies...
Marlies coach Dallas Eakins said last night: "I would rather someone take a pair of steel toed boots and kick me in the nether regions than lose a game like that."
But then, we get this revelation this morning- the goal shouldn't have counted...
American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews has issued the following statement:
“We have spoken with Toronto Marlies management and confirmed that a rules interpretation error by the on-ice officials occurred on the Norfolk Admirals’ overtime goal during Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals.
“On the play, a dump-in from center ice by a Norfolk player caromed off a stanchion and into the Toronto net. The correct application of AHL Rule 83.4 would have negated the Norfolk goal due to a delayed offside call.
“As AHL By-Laws do not allow for any change to the final result of a game based on an incorrect rule interpretation, the result of the game stands.”
Eakins responded this morning...
Never forget that @theahl is a developmental league for the referees as well. Players and coaches have made mistakes. We all move on.
Eakins is naturally coach-confident about Game 4, so we'll see...

Great Hockey fight, better play-by-play
((ht: eye-on-hockeyblogs))
Wow! Leave it to the minor-league's to show us a hardcore hockey fight. And this one, from Saturday's Wilkes/Barre/Scranton Penguins and Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League was pretty darn good.
But it may be topped by the play-by-play.
Here is the set up: Penguins enforcer Steve McIntyre and Admirals forward Eric Neilson get tangled up after a face-off in the 2nd period of Saturday's game...which we might add, was on TV.
A good, ole-fashioned "Slobberknocker" ensued with McIntyre landing multiple big shots on Neilson who refused to go down.
We have no idea who the announcers are, but they are absolutely hilarious.
Just watch...and listen. (Video courtesy: steelcityassault1/YouTube)
