Morning Wrap: Alabama Survives Iron Bowl Track Meet

((ht: espn.com))

It was the highest scoring game in the amazing history of the Alabama vs. Auburn game.

A game won by Alabama 55-44 and which featured over 1100 total yards and at least two statistics guys who passed out from exhaustion. (just kidding--they really did combine for 1100+ yards though)

A game that featured Auburn QB Nick Marshall throwing for 456 yards and 3 TD's and featured Alabama star WR Amari Cooper catching 13 passes for 223 yards and 3 TD's.

And a game that had SEC fans nervous, because a Crimson Tide loss likely would have kept the SEC out of the inaugural College Football Playoff.

But the 101,000 + and a national television audience got to see a long, long game that went to the wire. It took Bama scoring 3 straight TD's in the 4th quarter to give the Tide their 11th win on the season while dropping the Tigers to 8-4.

Alabama will move on to play SEC Champ Missouri in the Georgia Dome for the SEC title. If they win that game, they'll be playing for a shot at the College Football Playoff title.

Auburn will be heading to a bowl game as 12 SEC teams qualified to play in bowls this season.

ICYMI: Auburn Outscores Missouri, The BCS Magic Carpet Ride Continues….

Talk about your dream season. Yeah, we're talking about you Auburn…

After snatching victory from the jaws of defeat twice in the final 3 weeks of the regular season, Auburn University is BCS title game bound.

The Tigers, behind 46 carries and 304 yards rushing from running back Tre Mason, beat Missouri in an SEC track meet masquerading as a football game, 59-42.

The game didn't exactly feature a lot of defense, but Auburn's did enough to stop Mizzou when it needed to.

And that was all Tiger coach Gus Malzahn's high powered offense needed. 545 yards rushing was more than enough to overcome 2 Nick Marshall fumbles and 10-penalties.

CBS Sports gives us our highlights:

So…the Auburn win, combined with the Ohio State gag job makes everyone south of Kentucky (SEC world) happy and continues the run of SEC teams in the title game.

It sets up an Auburn/FSU game which should be just as high scoring as this one. Though we might add the Seminole defense is considerably better than Missouri's.

We won't make our pick for that game here, but we will add that it will be hard to pick against Auburn, who will not be favored. The Tigers have escaped twice and if you ask even the most die-hard of Tiger fan in August if they thought this game would happen, they'd be lying to you through their teeth.

Auburn Athletics shows the scene at the famed Toomer's Corner, a scene that got even crazier once fans realized Ohio State was losing and their beloved Tigers were Pasadena bound…

Richt v. King At Postgame Presser

((HT: FoxSports/Fansided.com))

The Georgia Bulldogs are 2-10 against top 10 teams under Mark Richt- which is a question in and of itself that has to be taken on a case-by-case basis...

In the Ess-E-Cee Championship game, the HQ thinks it came down to simply the depth of the Alabama running game and beef up front. Don't misunderstand...

Georgia played their ass off, but against Alabama you have to do it for a full 60 minutes. The Bulldogs got tired and, at the same time, Chris Conley should have not caught the pass he did when CJ Mosley deflected it at the line of scrimmage.

The debate will continue as to whether or not the Bulldogs should have spiked the ball after getting set to give themselves two plays and 12 seconds or to go on pace and try to catch the Tide without the right personnel and on the hop...

That can go either way...

But just don't ask CMR about the heart of his team...
Actually, Chuck Oliver did...

Whaddya think the Richts don't send him a Christmas card...???

Bee-Cee-Ess Is Set With Irish And Tide

Alabama set a record for rushing yards in an Ess-E-Cee Championship Game, but it was a play action pass from AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper in the fourth quarter that gave the Crimson Tide the opportunity to play for their 10th national title...

Georgia hung with the Tide toe-to-toe, but the defense was having to put up with both TJ Yeldon and Eddie Lacy in various stages of rest and was gassed by the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs had in the neighborhood of 70 seconds to go the length of the field to get the win trailing 32-28. Dee Milliner picked off a pass with 43 seconds left for the win, but it was ruled incomplete after review. Tavarres King caught a Murray pass to the Alabama 34 followed by a connection to Arthur Lynch down to the 8. However, a pass to Chris Conley was not close enough to the sideline as time expired.

Conley caught the pass after it was deflected by CJ Mosley at the line of scrimmage instead of letting the ball fall incomplete...

Let's face it, Alabama escaped after not playing very well...

Here was something that Georgia pulled off that Alabama could not early on in the game to try and put points on the board- a fake punt (without any mention of Tim Tebow as an up-back)...
((HT: SEC on CBS))

Conventional wisdom now has Georgia dropping all the way to the second Orlando-based bowl game on New Year's or the Peach Bowl in Atlanta (or close to it) since the Cotton, Sugar, and Bee-Cee-Ess games all have their preferred dance partners in Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M.

So much for all that thinking that playing well to the end would work in your favor...

Hype Music: Dawgs on Top: Interesting Imagery

This is interesting. Well produced, but parts of it are a bit...well...odd.

A group of University of Georgia fans have put together what the young kids these days call a "Hype Video" (sarcasm).

And it's very well put together.

We're assuming it was done to get them hyped for Saturday's SEC Championship Game vs. Alabama which if they are able to win, would get the Bulldogs to their 1st ever BCS Title Game.

Unfortunately for us, we couldn't get past the Dwarf Rapper at the beginning. Mind you we have nothing against that, it was just not an expected image. The other was the generic white boy student eating a Chick-Fil-A Sandwich in slow motion.

Those images were just plain weird.

But hey, whatever works. And no, we haven't picked a winner in this game because what we want to happen and what we think will happen unfortunately are two different things.
