Bee Attack: Swarm Delays Red Sox-Yankees Game (video)

((ht: mlb.com))

Geez, anyone have some insect repellant? Number for the bug man? Or a beekeeper?

Tuesday afternoon's Red Sox/Yankees Spring Training game in Tampa was delayed during the third inning when a swarm of bees appeared in left field.

No really, this happened.

We don't think....this is a sign of the apocalypse, but it scared Red Sox left fielder Mike Carp, the Red Sox bullpen and the umpires enough that the grounds crew were forced to intervene.

Take a look at the closeups of the railing closest to the Red Sox bullpen, the bees are all over the gear.

Yankees 1st baseman Mark Texiera bravely offered up a couple of honey bottles from we are guessing the snack table in the Yankee clubhouse. But alas, the hearty grounds crew ran through the bullpen spraying what appeared to be bottles of Raid.

The game eventually restarted but not before tons of us got one heck of a good laugh:

Ouch! Marlins Giancarlo Stanton Seriously Injures a Baseball

((ht: mlb.com))

Yeah, Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins can hit baseball's a long, long way.

Check out this long (est. 525 ft) home run Monday afternoon in a Spring Training game with the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Actually, just listen to the sound of the bat hitting the ball...

Rays Pitcher Peralta Injures Neck Grabbing Sandwich

So...after seeing this, we just kind of felt obligated to pass it on, mostly because it's funny.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Joel Peralta has now, in the 1st week of Spring Training, had the worst Spring Training of anybody.

Why you ask?

Because Peralta apparently hurt his neck Wednesday getting out of his Camaro to pick up a sandwich at the "Cuban Taste" restaurant in Port Charlotte, Florida.

The injury is described as "Not Serious", though it would be kind of tough to consider an injury like that as being serious in any way, shape or form.

Of course, the obvious, unanswered question here is "How does one get hurt getting out of a car?"

Rob Riggle goes to Royals Spring Training

If you are asking who Rob Riggle is, he is an actor/comedian who is often featured on the Funny or Die website and been in a variety of movies.

On Wednesay, Riggle got the chance to participate with the Kansas City Royals during their Spring Training in Arizona.

Sure, it was a promotional thing, Riggle is in the new 21 Jump Street movie.

Thankfully, he got a few laughs...and didn't embarrass himself.

D-Backs game delayed by Bees

Swarm of Bees/Courtesy: Jordan Megenhardt/D-Backs.com
((d-backs.com))

Yeah, it conjured up images of the movie "The Swarm".

The Arizona Diamondbacks/San Francisco Giants Spring Training opener in Scottsdale, Arizona was delayed 41 minutes Sunday afternoon due to a swarm of bees.

The swarm came in from over the right-center field fence and headed towards the infield. It sent the Arizona players scrambling for cover.

They ended up stopping around the edge of the Giants dugout and it took a concerted effort from Grounds Crews and local firefighters to help get rid of them.

And yes, the above picture is from the game. We haven't found video of this yet, but we'll keep looking.

Makes those of you old enough to remember this thing of the movie...doesn't it?
