When Being Out Of The Baseline Doesn't Mean You're Out

((HT: MLB.com))

The Pittsburgh Pirates Josh Harrison had a full evening last night...

But the biggest part was this activity on the base paths that angered Mets manager Terry Collins before it was over with...

Now, we know that when you run, you can take a little creative license in the base paths...

Mike Francesa Jams Daniel Murphy For Paternity Leave

((HT: WFAN/Fox Sports 1))

Okay...

He's really a crotchety, old man who is out of touch with what matters to people these days...

A caller gave Mike the opening in complaining about Mets 1B-OF Daniel Murphy taking a few days off after the birth of his child...

Three words...

Out
Of
Touch

Everyone's response to adding to families is different, but sports talk radio gives us all the opportunity the chance to throw stones...

And, yes, you were supposed to be there with your wife in all of this...
Unless she's the most understanding woman on the planet...

You're, obviously, very lucky...

Baseball Returns To The Big Owe

((HT: MLB/Sportsnet))

The Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Mets in the first of a two-game tease for baseball fans in Montreal...

One Expo in particular has been trying to get baseball back in town full-time...

Warren Cromartie, who was referenced on the liner notes of the Rush album "Signals" (Look it up, it's true...) spent some time with Buck Martinez and the Blue Jays crew discuss his passion these days...

Ouch! Marlins Giancarlo Stanton Seriously Injures a Baseball

((ht: mlb.com))

Yeah, Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins can hit baseball's a long, long way.

Check out this long (est. 525 ft) home run Monday afternoon in a Spring Training game with the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Actually, just listen to the sound of the bat hitting the ball...

Ralph Kiner Passes At 91

((HT: WWOR-TV))

Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner passed today at the age of 91...

The HQ remembers him in this role as we grew up a child of cable television...

But our in-laws know him with his amazing career with the Pirates as a slugger and true hitter...

The Korner will never be the same... and it will be missed...

Hopefully, the Metropolitans will have the appropriate type of homage as we head toward Spring Training and the 2014 season...

Connecticut Man Arrested for Threatening NY Mets?

((ht: courant.com))

After reading the headline to this story, the obvious question would be--Why?

And it would be a good question.

A 42-year old West Haven, Connecticut man was arrested Wednesday morning for making threatening Twitter posts to the New York Mets Baseball Players and Front Office personnel.

Yes, seriously.

A tweet with a mug shot from a WFSB-TV reporter:

Why Aryn Leroux would do something so idiotic and stupid is still a bit of a mystery, but according to the Hartford Courant, Leroux fancied himself as a Mets fan. His motivation for the threats? Who knows?

Read more from the Courant RIGHT HERE

We can only assume that Leroux was upset about the teams performance this past season. Which really, if you think about it, wasn't nearly as bad as most of us assumed it would be. Agruably the Mets have set themselves up as a future contender with a heck of a young pitching staff featuring Matt Harvey, once he gets healthy again.

Either way, Leroux is facing a charge of Threatening and Breach of Peace in Connecticut and was supposed to be arraigned some time Wednesday afternoon. They should add being a moron to the charges.

Braves Heyward's Season Is Over By 90 MPH To The Face

((HT: LiveLeak/MLB/FS Braves))

Jason Heyward's season is over...
Because of this...

Heyward was taken to a New York hospital for X-rays, which revealed two fractures. He and Braves trainer Jeff Porter stayed behind at a Manhattan area hospital while the team left for their series in St. Louis.

What is it about the Braves and Citi Field anyway...???

Your Irony Filled Baseball Cutaway of the Day

((ht: sportsgrid.com))

This has infinitely more jokes that should be made about it than we could ever come up with.

Have you ever wondered about how useful it would be to have muscles. We're talking big, weightlifter/powerlifter, Hulk Hogan like biceps?

With that in mind, check out what happened during yesterday's Kansas City/New York Mets game at Citi Field.

Because well, we just can't--watch the video and please feel free to insert whatever appropriate joke you can think of.

Chad Qualls Perfects Fist Pump Somersault

((HT: MLB/SNY))

It's one of those rare highlights that turned into something else entirely...

What would you call this action after a strike out...???

A fist pump-trip-blown tire-somersault should just about cover it...

Matt Harvey Asks New Yorkers About Matt Harvey

((HT: Late Night With Jimmy Fallon))

He's in his first season as a Mets starter and is doing... okay...

So, he gets named to the All-Star team and is named (very thoughtfully by NL Manager Bruce Bochy) to be the starter...

Jimmy Fallon took advantage of his almost rookie-ness to see just how many people know Matt Harvey in his street clothes from Matt Harvey as a baseball pitcher...

Answer...???

Well played, Fallon...

OSG Baseball: 2 Games, 38 Innings... Long Distance Runaround...

((HT: MLB.com))

Miami, the Mets, Texas, and Toronto played a lot of baseball this afternoon...

One game went 20 innings and the other went only 18...

The details in the National League Game...

Adeiny Hechavarria singled home Placido Polanco in the 20th for Miami's first run since the fourth-inning. That's 16 innings (or two home games) of not scoring until you score. The game itself went 6-hours and 25-minutes and was the longest game ever in the short history of Citi Field. Kevin Slowey threw seven shutout innings in relief. The Mets left 22 on base and didn't score after the second innings (that's two full games of not scoring).

It was Hechevarria's first major league game-winning hit...
16 pitchers were involved in 140 at-bats. The Marlins threw 294 pitches and the Mets threw 267.
The Marlins are, actually, now 17-44...
Here's your postgame...
((HT: SNY))

In the American League, Toronto's closer Casey Janssen is, usually, a slam dunk. Especially with a two-run lead in the ninth inning... but not today. Janssen gave up the game-tying runs in the top of the ninth and the game went for a while...

Rajai Davis hit the game-winning single in the longest game (innings-wise) in Jays history- winning 4-3 in only 18...
Toronto used nine pitchers while the Rangers used only five, but Ross Wolf went 6-and-two-thirds in relief for the Rangers and gave up the single...

First Pitch Fail In NYC

((HT: CSN Chicago))

Gary Green, the owner of the Royals AAA team in Omaha (and big Mets fan), got to throw out the first pitch at last night's Mets-White Sox game. And for the second time in four years, Green's pitch had issues...

Here's Steve Stone's call of the replay...

Catcher John Buck's reaction is awesome...

Johan Santana Gives Mets First No-No

((HT: SNY/youtube))

Linda Cohn can now be a happier Mets fan for the rest of her days...

Here's something Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Gooden, or any other starter ever had done while in Met stripes...

Evidence below...

Congrats to Santana... eventhough the HQ's Cardinals players were oh-fers on the night...

DEVELOPING: Mets Settle Madoff Numbers For $162M

((HT: MyFoxNY))

The owners of the New York Mets and the trustee trying to recover as much money as they can for victims of Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme settled Monday for $162 million.

The Mets owners will not pay anything for three years- considering they're not the most cash-rich at the moment...

Irving Picard, the court-appointed trustee chasing after the cash, sued the Mets owners, Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, and anyone he could think of for more than $300 million- so, they end up with a little more than half that number...

The Mets owners, who invested with Madoff for more than 20 years, have said they had no idea about his business dealings and they feel just as played as everyone else.

Here's the latest... or the earliest...

BREAKING: Gary Carter Passes At 57

The 11-time all-star was the first player to go into the Hall of Fame with a Montreal Expos cap on his plaque.

Carter was diagnosed with four brain tumors last May. Back in January, the family revealed that doctors found several new tumors on Carter's brain. And his last public appearance at the beginning of February, going to Opening Day for the college baseball team he coached in Florida at Palm Beach Atlantic College.

Carter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 after retiring in 1992. He finished his 19-year career with a .262 average, 324 home runs and 1,225 RBI...

"When you think of the great baseball field generals, you think Gary Carter," Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson said in a statement. "He ran the game from behind the plate with strong leadership and passion. The Kid's contribution to our national pastime is big, but his heart was even bigger. We'll always remember his caring way, ever-present smile and strong devotion to family, community and the Baseball Hall of Fame."

Here's how WPTV Sports covered Carter's charity golf tournament... one of his last public appearances...

And the last hit of his career- the way to go out...
