((HT: Governor Christie his own self))
So, the Governor of the state of New Jersey might be a fan of his Giants, Jets, or both...
But in an interview on talk radio in his home state, he went in another direction...
The HQ is fairly certain of his run for President in the upcoming election, but the Poly Sci Major in us also knows about the electoral clout of the state of Texas and its swing capabilities...
Just thought we would put this out there for your political perusal...
Now, about that sports gambling question...

Roger Goodell Speaks For The First Time
((HT: CBS News))
Norah O'Donnell got the chance to sit down with Commissioner Roger Goodell in his first interview since the Ray Rice fiasco has gone full blown-go boom. The HQ suspects that this is part of the "Thursday Night Football" NFL-CBS happy family package.

Donald Trump First Up For Bills Bid Discussions
((HT: WGRZ-TV))
The bidding process is now moving to the meet-and-greet phase for the groups that want to have the Buffalo Bills as a part of the corporate portfolio.
There are concerns that both the Trump and Bon Jovi groups may have violated the rules in negotiations by going public in disclosing the bid numbers publicly.
Trump's first bid was in the neighborhood of a billion dollars- and, according to Al Michaels, is all cash
The Bon Jovi/Toronto bid was a little north of that and they may not be able to go any higher
Terry Pegula is rumored to be in the neighborhood of $1.3-billion and he could go higher if he thinks he needs to
And, now, it appears Tom Golisano may add his name to the pile after all
Here's the latest out of Buffalo
We're just getting started and don't be surprised if another name is added to the mix for the purchase before we're done.

Goodell Defends League Stance On Ray Rice
((HT: NFL/ESPN))
The Commissioner of the National Football League was pinned into a scrum at the NFL Hall of Fame weekend and was asked about the action the league took involving the 2-game suspension of Ravens running back Ray Rice.
See if you believe his answer
So, dear reader/watcher/listener...
What say you...???
Do you agree or disagree with the Commish...???

Mayweather On Rousey: Don't Know Who "He" Is...
((HT: David Greisman/BoxingScene.com))
The video shot below by Greisman is one of two things:
Either Mayweather is completely oblivious to everything outside his own sphere of influence or,
He's just poking the bear knowing that Ronda Rousey really wants to take on the boxer- since Dana White thinks that Rousey can put a hurt on him...
Decide for yourself...

Chris Sutter Gets His Postgame Interview
((HT: NHL on NBCSN))
The HQ came across a great article during our Stanley Cup Final coverage that Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star wrote about LA Kings head coach Darryl Sutter and just how much we don't know about him.
We all see the Popovichian-Belichickian press conference glibness which is good for quick quotes and a laugh. But Arthur let us in on the huge heart the coach has for family and for others- specifically those who have Down's Syndrome like his son Chris.
But Chris is family to the Kings players and he was a part of Anze Kopitar's post-game interview last night...
As he should...

And On Day 3, Steve Coburn Apologizes
((HT: GMA on ABC))
Steve Coburn, co-owner of California Chrome, has finally decided to fall on his sword and listen to his wife.
She was the one who tried to get him to pipe down and not talk about only running in one or two of the Triple Crown races as the "coward's way out" in winning important horse races.
Chrome tied for fourth along with Wicked Strong. Coburn was hot under his bolo tie and was adamant about his comments the next day in an interview with Lindsay Cazrniak.
Monday, perhaps understanding that the horse and stable legacy was hanging in the balance, he went on air with Robin Roberts to do a 180- which was a wise move.
Here's the sit down with Coburn

Police Want To Talk To Hernandez Tattoo Artists
((HT: MyFoxBoston))
Here's another trail for Connecticut and Boston-area police to follow involving the Aaron Hernandez murder cases...
They think that his tattoos may provide either details, proof, or an appreciation for his alleged handiwork. The Suffolk County (MA) District Attorney's Office wants to talk to the artist or artists responsible for the work on his right forearm.
Doesn't matter the location, state, or status...
Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston
The DA's office released a statement to go with their questions:
"Authorities are not publicly describing the specific tattoos or the nature of the inquiry – only that the artists may have made observations of evidentiary value in the pending Suffolk County murder prosecutions."

((HT: TMZ Sports/Fox Sports))

Donald Sterling The Day After And Shelly Sterling Says The NBA Is "Sexist"
The HQ thinks it's fairly safe to say that last night's interview between Donald Sterling and Anderson Cooper was the 38th version of Sterling spitting into the wind and not giving a tinker's damn about what came out of his mouth.
Or just not knowing what's coming out of his mouth will have a certain blow-back as an old white guy with "rich man's entitlement."
Saying bad things about Magic Johnson as the Clippers have been the other team in Los Angeles isn't a good place to go...
Here's KABC-TV's wrap
And then here's KCBS-TV
Shelly Sterling says she's going to the wall to keep her half of the team...
Shocking no one...
She believes the move that the NBA wants to remove her is "sexist."
That's not the kind of offense you want to mount to keep a possession, is it...???

Donald Sterling Talking Was A Bad Idea (UPDATED: Silver Responds)
((HT: CNN/youtube))
A terribly, horrificly-executed, oh-my-GAWD-why-in-the-blue-hell did you do this-and WHO TOLD YOU TO TALK TO CNN- kind of an interview that rambled and proved that the Clippers owner has no business being an owner of anything ever again...
Trying to garner sympathy early, the old man told stories about grandchildren...
This wasn't a bad gambit...
But then denigrating Magic Johnson in a deeply disturbing manner...
The transcript from Deadspin:
Here is a man.. he acts so holy. He made love to every girl in every girl in America in every city and he had AIDS. When he had those AIDS, I went to my synagogue and I prayed for him.
What has Magic Johnson done? He's got AIDS. Did he do any business? Did he help anybody in south L.A.? I think he should be ashamed of himself. What does he do for the black people? I'm telling you he does nothing. It's all talk.
I spent millions on giving away and helping minorities. Does he do that? That's one problem I have. Jews, when they get successful, they will help their people.
And some of the African-Americans, maybe I'll get in trouble again. They don't want to help anybody. What has Magic Johnson really done for Children's Hospital which kids are lying in the hallways. They are sick. They need a bed. What has he done for any hospital? What has he done for any group?
Seriously... that's where Sterling went...
"Those AIDS"
Here is a gentleman who just screams "white guy entitlement" and is out of touch with the rest of us.
He firmly believes his players love him- which they don't...
He is quite enamored with his own successes which lend themselves to, Sterling thinks, the adoration and respect of others.
He bought the team for a mere pittance, wanted nothing to do with San Diego, was involved in a lawsuit with the NBA over the relocation of the franchise- which he was going to do regardless of what anyone thought- even the fellow members of his trade association.
He failed to invest in the franchise early- causing them to be a laughing stock in the league. And when he finally did, shocking no one except maybe Sterling, the team started having on-the-court success. Which is where they are now...
He treated employees with a profound lack of respect (see Elgin Baylor) and thinks of himself as bullet-proof in the consequences.
He thinks V. Stiviano set him up- which may be the only part of truth in this whole proceeding- thinking that either the Sterlings were going to divorce and her gravy train was going to end or she was going to be kicked to the curb outright- and if he wasn't aware of the recording in a two-person state... the person who leaked the recording may be guilty of a crime.
And, regardless of what anyone thinks, the sides in the Sterling marriage are putting up their battle lines for what surely will be some tremendous legal drama over the next however-long-this-will-take. Shelly Sterling and her attorney will almost certainly chase after Donald Sterling's competency as an owner and may even maintain that the statements he has been making publicly are that of someone in the throes of a disease. Donald Sterling will be unfit to own and has been unfit to own for however long the disease has been effecting his brain.
Donald Sterling will battle the competency angle and say he wants a divorce from his wife of 60 years. The divorce proceeding will be running in tandem with the Shelly Sterling lawsuit. And it will all be a test.
It will be a test for the NBA next season for the players who won't play for a Sterling but will have Dick Parsons as a CEO who the Sterlings and their representatives may or may not even want to answer to in questions involving authority and day-to-day operation of the franchise.
Who will want to stay? Who will want to play? And will anyone even be around for the franchise come the beginning of training camp in the 2014-15 season...???
We're not even close to being done...
2245 UPDATE: Commissioner Adam Silver responded and it's what you would expect
"I just read a transcript of Donald Sterling's interview with Anderson Cooper and while Magic Johnson doesn't need me to, I feel compelled on behalf of the NBA family to apologize to him that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal attack. The NBA Board of Governors is continuing with its process to remove Mr. Sterling as expeditiously as possible."

So, there's that...
There are other soundbites up on the website, and the HQ will have a full report later on this evening once the interview airs, but it appears that Donald Sterling continues in his fight to be an old, white guy who is out of touch with the modern day.

Shelly Sterling's Next Move: Dementia (UPDATE: NBA Responds)
((HT: ABC News))
Here's an excerpt of the Barbara Walters interview with Shelly Sterling
ABC US News | ABC Entertainment News
Well, okay...
She hasn't filed divorce for 20 years because of "financial arrangements..."
The HQ thinks that means that she wouldn't be as rich without Donald Sterling as she would be with him. So, it's better for her if she waits it out in a community property state.
And when you go to the dementia card in light of conversations that came out in the radaronline.com recording...
((HT: CNN))
Donald Sterling just wanted sex and was just saying whatever not knowing the conversation was being recorded...
Sterling will ask for forgiveness in an interview with Anderson Cooper that is set to air Monday night...
The HQ can't wait... for both the interview and for both the Sterlings to leave as both Donald and Shelly seem to just want some story to stick to the wall for everyone to believe...
PM UPDATE: The NBA's Mike Bass responded Sunday night
"Under the NBA Constitution, if a controlling owner's interest is terminated by a 3/4 vote, all other team owners' interests are automatically terminated as well. It doesn't matter whether the owners are related as is the case here. These are the rules to which all NBA owners agreed to as a condition of owning their team."

And the NBC Los Angeles Investigative Unit has come across something else that may be dogging the current Los Angeles Clippers owner. Joel Grover talks about a $50-million idea that hasn't even left the ground floor...
The HQ gets the feeling that the LA media senses blood in the water and isn't going to give up soon...

Mark Emmert Defenses The Indefensible

It appears that Mark Emmert, the head of the NCAA, decided to go go Bristol this morning to do some kind of media tour dressed in Casual Friday fashion...
And, as the gentleman that has to defend the presidential stances of the NCAA, he has to tow the party line- no matter how silly the presidential party line is...
Like this run on the new meal standing even invoking Shabazz Napier by name
The #askemmert hashtag the "Mike and Mike" show used made for some interesting fodder...
Search the Twitter machine on your own for amusement- it would take us too long to post the great questions...
But Awful Announcing has a great recap
As does Deadspin...
And when stuff like this gets re-tweeted, you know it was another bad idea:
From Jay Bilas: NCAA President says athletes are "taking seats from a paying student." Wow.
ESPN actually put this out on their own: "If I can hire someone to play football for me why would I hire an 18 year old? Why not someone who plays in the CFL?" Emmert on unions
Here's the interview in full with Golic and Sedano
