Yeah, That Happens To My Hair All The Time...
((HT: ESPN/USTA))
The HQ doesn't know what to think about this but it has NEVER happened to us on the court...
Watch what happens to Caroline Wozniacki in her rally with Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round at the US Open.
Yeah...
Never happens to us...

Bellis Wins In Flushing At The Age of 15
((HT: ESPN/USTA))
CiCi Bellis became the youngest winner in the US Open since 1996 with her three-set win over 12th-seeded Dominika Cibulkova
Here's the highlights
She rallied from down a break in the third set for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win. Anna Kournikova was 15 in 1996 and not since Mary Joe Fernandez was that age in 1986 had an American won at such a young age.

U.S Open Tennis Match Delayed by Killer Bee
((ht: espn.com))
No really, it was a lone bee that briefly delayed the Venus Williams vs. Kimiko Date-Krumm opening round match at the U.S. Open.
We aren't making this up.
One bee.
All by it's lonesome.
The killer bee ducked and dodged Date-Krumm and a phalanx of slightly scared ball kids before eventually scurrying off...

Aussie Kyrgios Saves 9 Match Points In Win Over Gasquet
((HT: Wimbledon))
Australia's Nick Kyrgios found quite a way to announce himself as the youngest seed in the Wimbledon fortnight. He ended up saving 9 match points, starting out 2 sets down to 13th-seed Richard Gasquet, to do this at 9-8 in the fifth set.
Here's the post-match Q-and-A session, presumably when he could catch his breath

Congrats On Winning Even Though You Lost
((HT: Sportsnet))
Usually, when the HQ is at a sporting event, we're paying attention to what's going on so we can report what's going on...
Sounds solid, right...???
This happened to Nicolas Mahut after his four set loss in the first round of the French over the weekend...
Solid career move we think...

ICYMI: Andy Roddick Drills Fox Sports Hosts With Tennis Balls
Wait, what?
Yeah, you might of missed this unless you are one of the small group of people who watch the nightly Fox Sports Live show on the FS1 Cable network.
And quite honestly, we aren't in that group of people.
But, videos from 2 of the hosts, Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole seem to always find their way to the Internet. And they are quite often pretty funny.
So we thought we'd share in case you missed it too.
Check out the hijinks...and screams of pain as Jay and Dan challenge co-host (and former Tennis player) Andy Roddick to see how hard he can hit tennis balls at them.
We suggest you listen with the audio up full:

Venus One And Done Down Under
((HT: ESPN))
22-seed Ekaterina Makarova knocked off Venus Williams in Day One, Round One of the 2014 Australian Open...
Here's the short version...
Venus loses in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-4
"My level was a little bit too up and down
"Obviously my error count was a little high," Williams said after the match. "I have to give her a lot of credit, though, she was very determined, played hard."
It was only the second time in 14 appearances that Venus lost in the first round. Her best appearance was a loss to her sister in the 2003 final.

54 Or 55 Stroke Rally At Flushing Meadow In Men's Final
((HT: EuroSport/USTA))
Okay, this is either a 54 or 55-stroke rally...
The HQ is guessing that, if we're talking 55, the serve is included...
Regardless, this is ridiculous in the first set...
Djokovic and Nadal may play until Thursday...

John McEnroe Squares Off Against A Puppet
John McEnroe is "across the pond" employed by the BBC as an analyst for their Wimbledon coverage.
During one of McEnroe's reports from the Wimbledon Hacker the dog, who is a dog puppet, interrupts the former champion.
This cannot be serious.
Hacker The Dog is a host or using the British term, presenter for the British children's television service CBBC or the Children's BBC and is very popular with the young people in the UK.
Hacker the Dog is poking fun at McEnroe's most famous eruption that you never get tired of watching.

Nadal Loses in 1st Round at Wimbeldon
Well, so goes that idea.
2 Time Wimbeldon Champ Rafael Nadal will remain a two time champ after this years tournament. That's because he's out.
Nadal was beaten in straight sets Monday by 135 ranked Steve Darcis of Belgium on Court 19, the fringes of the tennis center.
Reports say Nadal was sluggish, this despite coming in on a 22 match winning streak and yes, it's the first time he's lost in the 1st round of a Grand Slam tournament.
One of the other tourney favorites, Roger Federer, rolled in his early match, taking down Victor Hanescu in just over an hour.

Djokovic Survives Down Under
((HT: EuroSport/ATP/WTA))
And a lot of people have a newly-found level of respect for Stan Wawrinka after this match in the Round of 16 at the Australian Open...
Djokovic needed just over 5 hours to beat Wawrinka 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 12-10. Remember, last year at the Australian Open final, Djokovic needed almost 6 hours to knock off Rafa Nadal.
Here's some of the highlights... if we ran the whole match down below, we'd run out of space (or memory- whichever applies...)
"I just had flashback of 2012," Djokovic said afterwards in the post-match interviews. "It was maybe 45 minutes less this match than the one 12 months ago, but still it was still as exciting. I tried to enjoy the moment and couldn't ask for more. What a match point ... unbelievable."
And don't think Tomas Berdych wasn't watching this match, either...

Jerzy Janowicz goes postal during Australian Open
((HT: Australian Open))
How many TIMES?!?!?!
24th seeded Jerzy Janowicz from Poland did not like the chair umpire's call during his first set tiebreak against India's Somdev Devvarman in the second round of the Australian Open.
Check out the video below:
Wow.
He went totally nuts a-la John McEnroe, spitting on the court, hitting the umpire's chair with his racket, and was even getting supporting chants from the crowd!
No good deed goes unpunished, Janowicz has now been fined $2,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The end of the story? Janowicz ended up defeating Devvarman 6-7 (10-12), 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, 7-5 in 3 hours and 58 minutes.

DEVELOPING: Roddick Out At US Open, Retires From Tennis
((HT: USTA/EuroSport))
It was an inevitablility more than anything...
Andy Roddick announced his impending retirement at the age of 30- on his birthday- at the US Open during the early rounds.
The fourth round match against Juan Martin del Potro was going to be a challenge as the 20th seed would have to climb up a 7th seeded hill to move on to the quarters...
But we finally have our answers and our finality in a three hour, 15 minute capsule extended only by Mother Nature.
Four sets, a loss, a lot of tears, and another loss for US tennis...
Here's the ending... for now...
Roddick now goes on to his sports talk radio life and a married life...

In Case You Missed It: Tsonga takes one in the Nuts
Eh...you never want this to happen at a major sporting event in front of thousands in person and millions on TV.
During Friday's Wimbeldon Semi-Finals Jo-Wilfried Tsonga squared off with Great Britian's Andy Murray, a match won by Murray.
As the two rallied in the third set, Tsonga went to the net...Murray tries to return the volley..and does. The shot..well...let's just say it hit home.

David Nalbandian breaks ad board on Judge's leg
Uh...this is never good.
And it probably is going to cost tennis player David Nalbandian some time away from the game and good bit of money.
Nalbandian was playing in the Aegon Cup Finals against Maran Cilic and got a little upset after missing a shot.
Watch as he takes out his wrath on an advertising board surrounding the line judge's chair. The board shatters on the judge's shin, causing a rather painful and serious cut to the judge's leg.
Needless to say, Nalbandian, though leading at the time, was immediately DQ'd.
The incident is being called an "Unfortunate Accident", we'll call it an "Expensive case of the Stupids".

Marcos Baghdatis is angry
Marcos Baghdatis is so angry, that he felt compelled to destroy his tennis rackets. No, that isn't a typo, we did say "Rackets".
Baghdatis was angry in part because he wasn't playing well. In fact he played so poorly, he lost his first round match in the Australian Open to Stanislas Wawrinka.
And before you ask, we'd heard of Baghdatis before, but not Wawrinka.
See the mass racket annihilation from ESPN right here:
