The Confidence Of Fernando Rodney Backfires

((HT: MLB.com))

When Mariners closer Fernando Rodney does well, he pulls out an arrow from his quiver and sends a shot into the air celebrating his closing...

Only problem... when you pitch more than an inning, this can happen if you don't keep it up

Boom...

Karma...

Here's All Of Tim Howard's Activity Vs. Belgium

((HT: bubbaprog's COUB))

The HQ thinks that Team USA keeper Tim Howard should not have to buy another drink in this country for the rest of his natural born life and should IMMEDIATELY be given the Congressional Medal of Honor

Here's all of his saves put back-to-back and Ian Darke gets to yell a lot, too...

The HQ blames Piers Morgan for the loss

Aussie Kyrgios Saves 9 Match Points In Win Over Gasquet

((HT: Wimbledon))

Australia's Nick Kyrgios found quite a way to announce himself as the youngest seed in the Wimbledon fortnight. He ended up saving 9 match points, starting out 2 sets down to 13th-seed Richard Gasquet, to do this at 9-8 in the fifth set.

Here's the post-match Q-and-A session, presumably when he could catch his breath

Brazil And Mexico Had A Staring Contest For 90 Minutes

And solved absolutely nothing:

Both keepers, Guillermo Ochoa (who had the game of a lifetime) and Julio Cesar parried everything and punched it all away for the match of the tournament in Brazil. And, yes, it proved that a goalless draw can be exciting...

And saves like this at the last kept it scoreless
((HT: Matt Clapp's Vine))

And, the HQ will reinforce that (no offense to the folks over at the four-letter) the only way to watch a game like mexico-Brazil is to watch our Spanish-speaking counterparts over at Univision.

Absolutely out of control...

THIS MIGHT BE THE WILDEST ENDING TO REGULATION IN MODERN MEMORY

((HT: CJZero/NHL on NBC))

This was the end of regulation for Game One of the Stanley Cup Final

Absolute, bat-s*** crazy ending and they headed to overtime...

Omsk Avangrad's Miroslav Blatak commits robbery with his glove- saving a sure goal with a skyhook...

That is all...
But it's really all you need...

Save Of The Year: Unless, It Was Carter Hutton...

((HT: NHL/FS Predators))

Last night, the HQ showed (what we thought) was the 2014 early contender of "Save of the Year," but we now may have a better answer...

And, for it, we go to the Nashville-Philadelphia game and Carter Hutton...

Okay...???

Enroth or Hutton...???

Save Of The Year: Early Contender From Buffalo

((HT: Sportsnet))

Jhonas Enroth tries to upstage teammate Ryan Miller for his save against Claude Giroux of the Flyers...

What say you, dear reader...???

Whose save is better...???

Team Masseur Makes Saves In Real Game, Saves Game

But he wasn't the starting goalie...

A masseur for the Brazilian team Aparecidence was chased into the stands (and, really, out of the building) after he made TWO goal line clearances during a 2-2 draw with the Tupi team- and, you have to admit, the saves were pretty sweet...

((HT: Juliano Spader))

Romildo Fonseca da Silva is the guy's name and his actions kept the aggregate score at 3-3 with his saves.

According to Brooks Peck over at Dirty Tackle:

The match was halted for 20 minutes while the officials tried to figure out what just happened. When it resumed, neither side could score and Aparecidense advanced on away goals. Tupi-MG supporters threw rocks at Aparecidense's bus as it left and the club's board vowed to challenge the result in court.

And We're Off: Sturridge Nets First Prem Goal Of 2013, Mignolet Comes Up Huge In Debut

((HT: BPL/Canal+))

Daniel Sturridge is the answer to your trivia question... as he opened the scoring of the 2013/14 Premier League season as Liverpool took on Stoke and their pesky defensive-minded soccer.

Iago Aspas found Sturridge on a pass across the outside of the box before Sturridge's shot went through the legs of Robert Huth and found the far post beating Asmir Begovic for the goal.

Liverpool's hearts were almost broken in the 88th minute at Anfield as Daniel Agger was called for a hand ball in the box. But Jonathan Walters penalty kick attempt was saved by Simon Mignolet- as was the follow- to preserve the shut out.

Here's the first of the firsts of this season in the 1-0 win...

And the HQ wonders if new Stoke manager Mark Hughes still thinks his squad stinks...

Vin Scully Calls A Rivera Save... How Cool Is That...???

((HT: MLB/FSWest))

There are few times on this earth that we get to see greatness wrapped in greatness...

Last night, in Los Angeles, the Yankees beat the Dodgers but that wasn't the story...

For the bottom of the ninth, Vin Scully called a Mariano Rivera save...

Sit back and enjoy...

Standard excellence from both and the HQ wouldn't expect anything less...

Drew MacIntyre's Save Is Ridiculous...

((HT: MarliesTV))

All we're going to say is you need to watch this all the way through just to see how sick this is...

The voice of the Marlies, FOSG Simon Bennett, probably still can't process what went down...
Frankly, we're still figuring it out...

Nathan Gets 300th Career Save On Ball Four...

((HT: MLB.com))

The HQ knows that calling balls and strikes is, somewhat, subjective...
Sometimes, it's even a bit off...

Then, there's the end of last night's Rays-Rangers game... it was just downright- Eric Greggian in its ending...
Evidence below...

And, yes, the HQ is painfully aware that it's where it crosses and not where it lands...
Although, in this case... it landed in the Rays dugout...

Oh... our frame of reference...???
The 1997 NLCS...

A Double-Save When He Needed It...

((HT: Fox Sports))

There was an Under-20 soccer tournament going on in South America recently (for all the HQ knows, it still could be going on...), and Uruguay was playing Peru...

Just watch what Peruvian goalie Angelo Campos does to keep the score where it is- after an EGREGIOUS error early on...
((HT: Mr Peruvian TV))

Not a bad recovery...
