And On Day 3, Steve Coburn Apologizes

Steve Coburn, co-owner of California Chrome, has finally decided to fall on his sword and listen to his wife.

She was the one who tried to get him to pipe down and not talk about only running in one or two of the Triple Crown races as the "coward's way out" in winning important horse races.

Chrome tied for fourth along with Wicked Strong. Coburn was hot under his bolo tie and was adamant about his comments the next day in an interview with Lindsay Cazrniak.

Monday, perhaps understanding that the horse and stable legacy was hanging in the balance, he went on air with Robin Roberts to do a 180- which was a wise move.

California Chrome co-owner Steve Coburn is still talking up the lack of a Triple Crown winner in his horse after yesterday's fourth-place finish in the Belmont Stakes.

He had an interview with Lindsay Czarniak on "Good Morning America" this morning that is making its way across all ABC/ESPN platforms and he's still sticking with his "three" statements when it comes to a horse being named a champion.

And he's also sticking with his analogies to make his point

I agree with the California Chrome owner. Horses should be required to run all Triple Crown races to have a shot at the trophy.

Sufficed to say, Coburn was less than diplomatic...

On the "Dan Patrick Show," the trainer for I'll Have Another dropped this bombshell...

"I'll Have Another is officially out of the Belmont."

So, NBC isn't happy now... the horse scratched...

1200 UPDATE: The New York Racing Association has scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference to announce that the colt will be scratched.

I'll Have Another, the 4-5 morning-line favorite for the 144th "Test of the Champion," will be the 12th horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the first two jewels of the Triple Crown but not complete the sweep in the Belmont.

I'll Have Another Takes Another Part Of The Triple Crown

In what looked like a re-run of the Kentucky Derby, I'll Have Another beat Bodemeister down the stretch to win the Preakness and only need to win the Belmont on June 9th for a Triple Crown season- the first since Affirmed in 1978.

The horse covered the mile and 3/16ths in 1:55.94 and paid off at $8.40, $3.80, and $2.80. Trainer Doug O'Neill won his first Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, and this win was his first in the Preakness.
