Report: NFL Begins to Spin Their Ray Rice Efforts

((ht: abcnews.go.com))

Oh boy. We should have known this might be coming but never the less it's interesting to see how the NFL's PR machine is spinning how the league "investigated" the Ray Rice incident.

The NFL's chief spokesman went to ABC News and told them about "efforts" to uncover the Rice video and a detailed report of what happened.

It doesn't appear the leagues investigative arm spent a lot of time worrying about it.

McCarthy tells ABC that the league "Reached out to multiple law enforcement agencies and a court" in an effort to get to the bottom of what happened.

The NFL tried two more times to ask agencies completely unrelated to the investigation over the next 4-months to try and get more information about what happened.

They got nothing

---Sigh---

This is the "Vaunted" NFL Security at work? Really?

The NFL wants YOU to believe that calling the wrong agencies and not following up was enough to say they "thoroughly" investigated a crime committed by one of their players?

Um....okay.

Even a rookie journalist would have known who to call for more information about the incident. And while they may not have gotten any further, at least they would have officially known that.

ABC also mentioned that the NFL never tried to contact either agency who actually had the Rice video. Maybe they didn't know who to call.

But at least a cursory call to oh, say, the Atlantic County (City) Prosecutor's office might have been a good place to start.

It's appalling that the NFL actually is selling this storyline to news agencies. And we just hope than none of them buy into the line of crap.

They are essentially calling their "Security" arm incompetent, stupid and not particularly thorough. And hey, maybe they are to blame for the lack of follow up. It would also explain why the league has been more concerned about marijuana suspensions than actual serious crimes over the past decade or two.

But if this truly IS the story that they are floating about what they've been doing, they've got quite a bit more to worry about...

And On Day 3, Steve Coburn Apologizes

((HT: GMA on ABC))

Steve Coburn, co-owner of California Chrome, has finally decided to fall on his sword and listen to his wife.

She was the one who tried to get him to pipe down and not talk about only running in one or two of the Triple Crown races as the "coward's way out" in winning important horse races.

Chrome tied for fourth along with Wicked Strong. Coburn was hot under his bolo tie and was adamant about his comments the next day in an interview with Lindsay Cazrniak.

Monday, perhaps understanding that the horse and stable legacy was hanging in the balance, he went on air with Robin Roberts to do a 180- which was a wise move.

Here's the sit down with Coburn

Hannah Storm Returns

((HT: ABC News))

And she held her first interview with World News Tonight's David Muir after returning from the horrific accident at her home three weeks ago...

It's powerful stuff and a lesson for all of us...

To say "Welcome back" seems a little trite at this point, but we're glad she is back and recovering as she should...

Graham Spanier (former Penn St prez) goes on the Offensive

Well, it certainly took awhile.

A mere 2 months after the scathing Freeh Report from Penn State that vilified former school President Graham Spanier, Spanier finally is responding.

Wednesday morning one of his lawyers held a Press Conference in Philadelphia saying that the Freeh Report on how the Jerry Sandusky scandal was handled was "Nothing short of absurd" and that there was nothing in it that incriminated his client.

And...he's right, his client isn't charged with anything other than ignoring warnings of a sexual predator in his midst on the premise of "Protecting the Penn State Way". Which for some strange reason seems to be everyone's defense of this. Now, yes, we are aware the Grand Jury in Centre County may be investigating him, but thus far, no charges are forthcoming.

Philly.com gives us the laughable details of the presser RIGHT HERE

Oh...did we mention that Spanier was interviewed by Josh Elliot of ABC and the interview "Coincidentally" will be airing Wednesday night?

ABC is trumpeting the "Get" with a press release which you can read RIGHT HERE

Okay.

First thought: This is an attempt to try and salvage Spanier's career in academia. And it's already too late. Does anyone not think this is the pleading of a desperate man? If Spanier is so "Innocent" why was there not an "Immediate" retort? Could we have possibly been plotting a way to respond while not trying to sound as guilty as he does in the Freeh Report?

We kind of hate to publicize stuff like this, but it's all over the mainstream media now. And we'll get a full day of breathless ABC teases saying things like "Graham Spanier, what did he know about Jerry Sandusky? He speaks to our Josh Elliot, that story LIVE at 6:30"

And yeah, if we weren't on vacation, we'd probably watch...

Here's the WHP-TV version...
