New LA MLS Team Has 22 Owners

Yay! Los Angeles still has no NFL team, but in 2017, they'll have Major League Soccer.

And...if all of the owners attend a home game, they are guaranteed great attendance---ha!---just kidding.

Seriously though, the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) really does have 22 owners. They range from Magic Johnson, who owns half of L.A to Mia Hamm and her husband Nomar. Tony Robbins (the motivational guys) is an owner and so is one of the guys who founded YouTube. Oh, and Vincent Tan a guy who owns Cardiff City in the Premier League and was called by USA Today "The Worst Owner in Sports".

But the group is led by a grouping including Henry Ngueyn, Peter Guber and Tom Penn

So there is that.

The LAFC has a website...but no stadium. They have owners, but no team. But if you look at the website, hey, they are lobbying for fans and corporate sponsors. The 2017 start date will coincide with new MLS franchise in Atlanta, giving the league 22 teams and the intention of adding 2 more by 2020.

Here's a live feed of the presser. Maybe they'll keep the video up at this link too?

KNX1070's Claudia Peschiutta was there as well...

The larger hope of the HQ is that Vincent Tan gets kept as far away as possible from the day-to-day operations...

Magic Goes High Road, Marques Puts Sterling On Blast

((HT: TMZ Sports/Fox Sports))

It's time to talk about two Johnsons...

Get your head out of the gutter...

Magic Johnson got his time with Anderson Cooper Tuesday evening, but before that he got his time on the phone with Harvey Levin to discuss the kind of help he thinks Donald Sterling- completely going high-road on the whole deal...

Here's his appearance on AC360 as a follow-up
((HT: CNN))

At the same time, Marques Johnson has a seemingly-standard story about Donald Sterling that just reinforces how out of touch he is

Blast, blast, blast...

Donald Sterling The Day After And Shelly Sterling Says The NBA Is "Sexist"

The HQ thinks it's fairly safe to say that last night's interview between Donald Sterling and Anderson Cooper was the 38th version of Sterling spitting into the wind and not giving a tinker's damn about what came out of his mouth.

Or just not knowing what's coming out of his mouth will have a certain blow-back as an old white guy with "rich man's entitlement."

Saying bad things about Magic Johnson as the Clippers have been the other team in Los Angeles isn't a good place to go...
Here's KABC-TV's wrap

And then here's KCBS-TV

Shelly Sterling says she's going to the wall to keep her half of the team...
Shocking no one...

She believes the move that the NBA wants to remove her is "sexist."
That's not the kind of offense you want to mount to keep a possession, is it...???

Donald Sterling Needs To Stop Talking: Round 400 Preview

((HT: CNN))

The full interview with Anderson Cooper will air this evening on CNN and it appears to have all the cringe-worthy value that the soundbite below will give you...

Here's his thoughts on Magic Johnson and his apparent worth to the LA community to Sterling

So, there's that...

There are other soundbites up on the website, and the HQ will have a full report later on this evening once the interview airs, but it appears that Donald Sterling continues in his fight to be an old, white guy who is out of touch with the modern day.

But that's just us...

DEVELOPING: Now, THERE'S A Protest... Stiviano Denies Leak...

((HT: ESPN))

"It's just us, only us, we're all we got."

The LA Clippers took off their shooting shirts in pre-game warm-ups and dumped them on the floor- revealing shirts inside-out (presumably, to cover up the Clippers script logo)

From BayAreaNewsGroup's Marcus Thompson via Instagram

And we have some news from the girlfriend...

From Rachel Zarrell at BuzzFeed:

“This office understands that the currently released audio tape of approximately 15 minutes is a portion of approximately one (1) hour of overall audio recording of Mr. Donald T. Sterling and Ms. Stiviano, and is in fact legitimate,” said Mac E. Nehoray of the Nehoray Legal Group.

He added, “Ms. Stiviano did not release the tape(s) to any news media.”

Calling the lawsuit involving Stiviano and Sterling’s wife “absurd,” Nehoray said they have no further comments.

The HQ maintains that anyone else close to the girlfriend could have done the same thing...
Just says "she didn't do it..."

The players, in game have gone to black recognition...

According to the LA Times Bill Plaschke and his Twitter:

Clippers wearing black bands on their left wrist...Chris Paul's sleeves are black...all players's socks are black...

Sterling's nightmare, indeed...

Magic Johnson addressed the situation this afternoon on ESPN

Magic Johnson now becomes the league's first African-American owner...
And, for that, the HQ likes the sale a whole lot...

Dodgers Sold To Magic Johnson, $2.1 Billion! : MyFoxLA.com

Guggenheim came to the table with $1.6-Billion in cash equity and paid another $500M for the team. According to Mark Cuban, that wasn't worth half of what the group paid for it...

The Mets are loving life right now since the value of their hemorrhaging franchise just went up- and everyone's value just went up... talk about living in the right neighborhood...

McCourt paid $430 million in 2004 for the Dodgers, the Stadium and the parking lots from Fox. The team had about $50 million in cash at the time, but by the time McCourt filed for bankruptcy, the team had a $579 million debt.

Well done, dude...

Here's the KABC-TV version with Christina Salvo...
