Donald Sterling Gives The Wrong Answer And Hasn't Fulfilled Charity Promises

((HT: KCBS-TV))

There isn't a whole lot to this particular update, so we'll just let Sandra Mitchell tell you...

That's not the right answer to give unless we're looking at a man who feels that he doesn't have a whole lot to lose at this point... and that quote is the money quote for the May issue of "DuJour Magazine"

And the NBC Los Angeles Investigative Unit has come across something else that may be dogging the current Los Angeles Clippers owner. Joel Grover talks about a $50-million idea that hasn't even left the ground floor...

The HQ gets the feeling that the LA media senses blood in the water and isn't going to give up soon...

Lunatic Fringe Raises Money For Brian Stow

It's not the first time, but it's still a cool thing to see...

3rd Base Coach Tim Flannery of the San Francisco Giants, along with his band Lunatic Fringe, held a series of benefit concerts for former EMT and Giants fan Brian Stow who was injured in a beating outside Dodger Stadium on Opening Day 2011.

The four concerts Fringe held yielded $96,000 as Stow continues his extensive rehab and recovery from brain damage.

It's not the first year that Fringe has held benefits...
Here's highlights from a concert with Fringe and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead...

In another cool gesture, the proceeds from Fringe's new album will go to Stow's recovery as well...

Don Tollefson Under Investigation For Charity Fraud

((HT: NBC Philadelphia))

Anyone in the northeast knows Don Tollefson as a sportscaster that worked in Philadelphia and had some national cups of coffee with the "sly" network as well as some national radio sideline stuff...

Now, Tollefson has apparently run afoul of folks in Pennsylvania and New Jersey after allegedly telling them that, for a charity donation, they'll get tickets to sporting events.

Guess what...???

The money went to the donation and the tickets never came...

Police in both states are investigating and Tollefson, through his lawyers, is saying that he is seeking treatment for something...

LuAnn Cahn has the early reports...

FOSG Wendy Saltzman is investigating for ABC6, but we can't embed their stuff anymore...

The Eagles have come out with a statement of their own:

"We were originally alerted on the Thursday before the Denver game by a distressed fan who contacted us. Our immediate concern was for those fans who were affected by this situation as they were just trying to cheer on their team. Since then, we have spoken with Don Tollefson and have expressed our concerns about this situation. To be clear, the Philadelphia Eagles do not have any affiliation with Mr. Tollefson and he was not authorized to use our trademarked logo in this or any promotion. He did not seek or obtain our approval for any facet of this promotion and we are troubled that he would portray that we were part of this in any way.”

The Times-Herald newspaper's Dave Clark caught up with Tollefson:

In a telephone interview Friday, Tollefson said he had never approached anyone with the idea the trips were sponsored by the Eagles. He said his only affiliation with the Eagles is that he was an in-stadium broadcaster for the team from the 2009 to the 2012 season, but he did not partner with the Eagles when selling the tickets.

He denied accusations made by some that he has been avoiding calls and is taking money for himself.

He said that he canceled all of the trips because the airfare was not the same as it had been in the past, and he wanted better travel accommodations for those who had bought the ticket packages.

“The trips weren’t held up to the standard they had been before,” Tollefson said. “I made a personal decision not to do them this year.”

Tollefson said he has been running similar trips for the past 15 years.

The HQ doesn't think this is over by a long shot... and it won't be good by the time it's done...

Hansen: "I Made A Mistake I Regret"- Found Out As Big Anti-SacTown Donor

((HT: KING-TV))

When it came down to it and the Seattle Arena group was vying for the Sacramento Kings hot and heavy, suggested Seattle arena owner Chris Hansen did a bad, bad thing...

Here's his statement in full: "When our binding agreement to purchase the Sacramento Kings became a competitive situation and we were faced with both the prospect of seeing our transaction fail and losing our $30 million deposit, I engaged Loeb & Loeb to canvas the various opposition groups to gain an understanding of their efforts and the prospects of their success. During this time I was approached through Loeb by the opposition about making a contribution to the opposition’s efforts as part of a broader group and agreed to make a donation.

In this regard I would just like to highlight that I have never directly engaged with or even had any conversations or contact with STOP, Taxpayers For Safer Neighborhoods, or any the various consultants engaged in the Sacramento Arena opposition. It was also not my intent to be the primary financial sponsor of the opposition’s efforts. I merely agreed to make a donation to the opposition in what had become a competitive and heated process. I have not agreed to provide any further political contributions and do not intend to make any further contributions.

I would also just point out that the contribution was made in my personal capacity and not on behalf of our ownership group or my partners. In fact, I have never discussed the contribution with them to date. While I'm sure everyone can appreciate how easy it is to get caught up the heat of battle, with the benefit of hindsight, this is clearly a decision I regret. I wish the city of Sacramento and Kings fans the best in their efforts and they have my commitment not to have any involvement in their arena efforts in the future."

Miletich and Brunner from the Seattle Times are investigating what this means... and it's not that good... He could face a fine of $100,000 from the state of California since the move wasn't divulged by the end of the last fiscal year.

And the move doesn't sit well with the local unions that are opposed to the Hansen plan for his new arena... From the Seattle Times article: An attorney for the Seattle Longshore Worker’s Union, which opposes the Sodo location for a new area, called on Seattle and King County officials on Friday to terminate their relationship with Hansen. “This shows the true Chris Hansen. He’s attempting to sabotage a publicly funded arena in Sacramento while at the same time asking Seattle and King County to provide $200 million for an arena here,” said Peter Goldman, who represents the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 19. The union is suing to block an agreement between Hansen, the city and county to build a new sports venue in the stadium district south of downtown.

The folks in Sacramento are less than pleased... ((HT: News10.net))

So, Chris Hansen may have gone from white knight in Seattle to black hat in two cities with one six-figure donation...
And that won't sit well with the commissioners of both leagues he's trying to court...

Busy Day For Rangers-Astros Includes A Drop And A Fire Truck

((HT: MLB.com))

It was a day that needed celebrating when the Rangers took on the Astros...

The Rangers made a point to honor the town of West, about 90 minutes south, as the town was obliterated when a grain plant exploded this spring. Lance Berkman even went as far as donating a fire truck that was purchased from the Arlington Fire Department. His name and number were placed on the side of the truck, but Berkman wanted no such recognition.

He just wanted to make sure the truck works for a town that really needs the help...
Here's the link to the ceremony...

And the story from WFAA-TV
And, during the game, one of the lighter moments when someone dropped a sure home run souvenir, and someone else wasn't too pleased...
