((HT: Governor Christie his own self))
So, the Governor of the state of New Jersey might be a fan of his Giants, Jets, or both...
But in an interview on talk radio in his home state, he went in another direction...
The HQ is fairly certain of his run for President in the upcoming election, but the Poly Sci Major in us also knows about the electoral clout of the state of Texas and its swing capabilities...
Just thought we would put this out there for your political perusal...
Now, about that sports gambling question...

Really? Dallas Cowboys RB Arrested for Stealing Underwear
((ht: dfw.cbslocal.com))

Stealing underwear and cologne? Really dude?
Dallas Cowboys reserve running back Joseph Randle was arrested Monday night and charged with misdemeanor theft after he walked away from a Frisco, Texas Dillards store with underwear and cologne.
Uh why?
According to Frisco Police, the underwear was worth $40 and the cologne $80.
Mind you Randle in his 2nd NFL season, while a backup, still gets paid like a pro athlete, which means he makes north of half-a-million a year.
No word yet on discipline from the Cowboys who are still probably shaking their head at this one too.
Here's the link to the arrest report, thanks to our friends at NBCDFW.com
And the latest from the Metroplex

Well, That's One Way To Get The Fans Involved At Training Camp
((HT: The Black and Silver Way))
The Raiders, pretty much, don't like anyone- much less the Dallas Cowboys can attest over time...
Today, this happened at training camp where the two are beating up on each other- watch the right side of the screen
Yep, that was a fan taking a swipe when the Cowboys just got too plum aggressive towards the silver and black on the last play of practice. Dallas corner B.W. Webb got it twice in the back of the head by the time it was over.
"Two teams going after it and happened to be some fans, too," Webb told ESPNDallas' Tim MacMahon. "Hey man, it happened. I wasn't expecting that. But whoever jumped on my back, I had to get them off. Hey, you got to let them know, man, the only thing protecting you is this fence."
Webb is right and, sometimes, fans insert themselves where they really shouldn't...
But it IS the Raiders...

Cowboys Print Playoff Tickets: Swear It's Not Motivational Ploy
((ht: dallasnews.com))Supposedly, the reason the Dallas Cowboys sent season ticket holders playoff tickets before the season started as a way to increase ticket office efficiency.
And the team swears....that is the only reason they did it.
We aren't sure we believe it, but really they did ship out playoff tickets, including potential NFC Championship game tickets this week.
Team spokesman Rich Dalrymple told amused reporters that it cost less to print the tickets and mail them now instead of trying to rush them through at the end of the year and through the holiday's.
He also said the tickets will not be active UNLESS the team makes the playoffs. Though he didn't mention if those ticket holders were paying for said tickets.
We should also add that the Cowboys haven't made the playoffs since 2009, though they have been close. Many of us remain skeptical that printing tickets in advance will change that streak...

Josh Brent Is Out Of Jail, Would You Hire Him...???
((HT: CBS Dallas/KTVT/WFAA-TV))
Former Dallas Cowboys tackle Josh Brent is now out of jail after his time for serving his conviction for a car crash that killed Cowboys teammate, Jerry Brown.
Brent was convicted back in January of intoxication manslaughter for the December 2012 crash after leaving a nightclub. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years' probation. The sentence is supposed to end in July, and it isn't clear how the rest of the sentence will be served- if at all.
Brent had a blood-alcohol level of 0.18 percent, more than twice the legal limit for drivers in Texas- .08
Brent faced up to 20 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter, but Jones' mother testified about forgiveness at sentencing.
The next question is that of the Cowboys:
Would you bring Brent back after a suspension (if given) or the completion of the jail term altogether after being charged for intoxication manslaughter...?
Here's the thoughts of the Cowboys at the time the question was asked of the Joneses...

Could Josh Brent Be A Cowboy Again...???
((HT: WFAA-TV))
Here's a question for you...???
Could a convicted felon make a return to the Dallas Cowboys roster...???
Stephen Jones made a public statement saying that bringing Josh Brent back to the roster is a "work in progress" since he would be out of jail around the time that the Cowboys break for training camp.
Here's Joe Trahan to discuss the possibility

DEVELOPING: Josh Brent Gets 10 Years, But Probated
((HT: WFAA-TV))
Jerry Brown Jr.'s mother was among several who took the stand as the sentencing phase of former Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent began Thursday morning after Brent was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter in his teammate's death.
After the testimony, Brent was sentenced to 10 years and fined $10,000. But the sentence was probated to reflect the trial past and he will serve 180 days in jail...
Brown's mother, Stacey Jackson, said yesterday that she forgives Josh Brent and thinks of him as a son. Prosecutors tried to show Brent as a habitual offender who deserves prison time going back to his arrest in Illinois in 2009...
The Illinois arrest had Brent's BAC at .11, and the crash that killed Brown had Brent with a BAC at .18
Here's Rebecca Lopez with Jackson's testimony...

The sentencing phase will start on Thursday.

Dallas Ticket Broker Pisses People Off For Second Year In A Row
((HT: WFAA-TV))
Which would lend the HQ to seeing into not using them after the first year of their problems...
But that's just us...
Could be that a place called Maximum Tickets or Cowboys Sports Tours doesn't have your hotel, your tickets, your tour of Cowboys Stadium, or some other part of your weekend is missing...
And it's not the first time that WFAA has chased them over this...
Lesson here...??? Caveat emptor...

Romo A No-Go Sunday vs Eagles
![]() |
| Tony Romo |
The Dallas Cowboys announced Friday morning that Romo underwent back surgery and was place on IR ending his 2013 season.
“Kyle Orton will be our starter in the ballgame [against the Philadelphia Eagles]." Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said. "We spent the week exhausting all options in regards to Tony’s situation – treatment, rehab, all the different things, consulted a lot of different people on this. We just felt like as we discussed it, as yesterday wore on, that this was the best decision for him and for our organization moving forward.”
How comforted are Cowboy fans now. The entire season resting on a winner-take-all game Sunday against the Eagles to reach the playoffs and the back up quarterback must go.
Kyle Orton has thrown five passes this year and completed 3 of them.
Look on the bright side Cowboy fans, maybe Orton won't throw a season ending fourth quarter interception against Philly.

Cowboys Signing Math Teacher/Football Coach As 3rd QB
((HT: Dallasnews.com/George))
So, the Cowboys tried out David Carr, Tyler Thigpen, Caleb Hanie, and John Skelton on the off-chance that Tony Romo doesn't survive the epidural that he was given earlier Tuesday...
Didn't sign a one of them...
They went after 16-year vet, and two-years removed from the game, Jon Kitna...
Kitna was teaching math and coaching football at his alma mater Tacoma-Lincoln (WA) High School...
See...??? He was back home...
((HT: CBS Sports))
But he had done things for the Cowboys in the past...
((HT: NFL on FOX))
He just hasn't done them since the first term of the current President...

DEVELOPING: Romo Not Out Completely, for Now...
((HT: ESPN))
Possibly a herniated disk... no one, except the Cowboys really know right now...
And dead-man-walking Jason Garrett says that they're not ruling him out for the game against the Eagles- for now...even as everyone else on the planet is saying Romo is out for the season...
Which means Kyle Orton, who hasn't had any real snaps in three years, will be getting the majority of the practice work and the Cowboys will be looking for a third QB for the roster for Sunday...
Here's the early returns on Big D...
A couple of early thoughts... Nick Florence comes to mind... and the running game will get a whole lot of work to keep the Eagles offense off the field in the winner-take-all game for the playoffs next weekend...

Dez Bryant Apologizes For 3rd Time, Does Anyone Care...?

ICYMI: An Exciting, Imploding Week In The NFC Least...
((HT: NFL on FOX/NFL on CBS))
The Washington Redskins, inexplicably, went for two after scoring a touchdown with less than 20 seconds to go in regulation and pulled defeat from the jaws of overtime- losing in Atlanta 27-26...
QB Kirk Cousins did the team thing and fell on the sword for not getting the two-point conversion done...
“We just didn’t do enough to win,” Cousins said postgame. “Two interceptions that were on me. A fumble that you don’t want to have. The failed two-point conversion. That was on me. Those are four plays right there, that if they go differently, it’s probably a much better result.”
Dead head coach walking Mike Shanahan, decided he had had enough very quickly...
((HT: CSN Washington))
But that doesn't even to cover it...
Dallas was up 24-3 at the half and lost 37-36- the most prolific scorer on the day for the Cowboys was kicker Dan Bailey.
The biggest mistake of all the mistakes the Cowboys made in the second half was also the last mistake when Romo threw a pick that caused Dez Bryant to leave the field with 1:21 left in the game...
See...???
Dead head coach walking Jason Garrett threw his QB under the bus:
"The idea was to run the ball and make them use the clock; run it and if we throw it, throw high percentage passes, keep the clock going, and make them use their time outs," Garrett explained.
Romo changed the play...
"It's a run call that we have," Romo said. "We'll have it up three to five or six times a game. That specific time, obviously when I look back now, you should run the ball, because you throw an interception. You should never give them a chance to have the ball."
"It's something we have accompanying some runs if he gets a bad look; that's what happened on the interception," Garrett said. "It was run call, though, that he threw the ball on."
The fans had a meltdown of biblical proportions...

Sam Hurd Gets 15 Years For Distribution Scheme
((HT: WFAA-TV))
Sam Hurd was arrested in Chicago in December of 2011 when he thought he was meeting with members of Mexico's dangerous Zeta drug cartel. He wanted to buy up to 50 kilos of cocaine a week to distribute it in Texas. He had a dozen guys ready to help move the stash, but it turned out that he was wrapped up in a sting...
In court yesterday, Hurd pleaded guilty to one count of trying to buy and distribute large quantities of cocaine and marijuana.
Hurd asked for a second chance in open court, but District Judge Jorge Solis said he was being penalized for wanting to be a significant drug dealer, not because he was an athlete...

Club Where Josh Brent Drank Promoted Excessive Drinking
((HT: WFAA-TV))
Something called the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has come out with a study in and around the Josh Brent incident where Brent's drinking and behavior behind the wheel ultimately led to the vehicular death of teammate Jerry Brown, Junior December 8th...
The Dallas club where Brent partied was found to have displayed "sufficient evidence" that employees served alcohol to intoxicated customers and encouraged "excessive" drinking.
The TABC said they will not pursue action against Beamers Private Club until Brent's intoxication manslaughter trial has been completed. Beamer's could face a fine or have their license suspended or revoked.
Here's the look from Dallas...
Brent's BAC was found to be a .189 the night of the wreck- anywhere from two to three times the legal limit depending on the state you're in...
