Sam Hurd was arrested in Chicago in December of 2011 when he thought he was meeting with members of Mexico's dangerous Zeta drug cartel. He wanted to buy up to 50 kilos of cocaine a week to distribute it in Texas. He had a dozen guys ready to help move the stash, but it turned out that he was wrapped up in a sting...
In court yesterday, Hurd pleaded guilty to one count of trying to buy and distribute large quantities of cocaine and marijuana.
Hurd asked for a second chance in open court, but District Judge Jorge Solis said he was being penalized for wanting to be a significant drug dealer, not because he was an athlete...
Here's the report from the courthouse...

Bears' Hurd To Plead Guilty In Drug Case
((HT: WLS-TV))
And this is because most of his co-defendants rolled over on him...
Former Chicago Bears WR Sam Hurd was going to be heading to trial very soon on his drug charges. Remember when he went to a cop and said that he wanted to purchase marijuana and cocaine so he could distribute it...???
According to his attorney, Hurd will enter a guilty plea to one count of conspiring to sell cocaine and marijuana. He went from the Dallas Cowboys to the Bears in his NFL travels and the feds were maintaining that he wanted to set up a drug network between the two cities...
It will be interesting to see just how much of the initial 10 years and US$10-million sentence gets put in Hurd's dossier when he gets sentenced over the summer...
Here's the I-team...

6 Arrested, 4 Suspended In Montana Football Program After "Disco Bloodbath"
((HT: MontanasNewsStation.com/KZBK))
Not that the Montana Grizzlies program needed any more bad news associated with it...
BUT...
It all started over the weekend with six football players arrested on drug charges as they were attending a party at a place called the "Disco Bloodbath."
The HQ isn't kidding...
Griz tackle Trevor Poole is up on a felony charge of "criminal possession of dangerous drugs"- which sounds pretty serious...
Here was early coverage of the Bloodbath...
((HT: KPAX-TV))
Bail was set at $50,000, and he was supposed to show up in court Monday afternoon.
Montana AD Kent Haslam told the media that Poole has been suspended indefinitely pending a resolution of his charges. Three additional players (linebacker Nick Holt, linebacker John Kanongata'a, and offensive lineman Kjelby Oiland) are now suspended for the Weber State game pending more discipline from head football coach Mick Delaney.
"It is an unfortunate situation, but expectations are clear," Delaney said in a press release. "I will not go in to particulars about why the three were suspended, but I can say it does not involve law enforcement. I feel it is my responsibility to hold players accountable."
This is the latest in a group of problems that the athletic program has had to face in recent months. The New York Times Jim Robbins detailed the investigations involving a high number of sexual assault charges on campus with football players being the focus.
Robbins' required reading involves knowledge of an investigation by the Department of Justice under Title IX, Title IV, and campus (and local) authorities handling of the alleged assaults. Back in April, the head coach at the time, Robin Pflugrad, and then-AD Jim O'Day were fired as a result of the initial investigation.

BREAKING: 31 Warrants Issued In TCU Case
(((HT: NBCDFW/NBC5 Dallas))
The drug investigation at TCU has actually led to 31 different people getting charged. Police are looking at arresting, possibly, another 10.
That number comes from a memo obtained by NBC5 from the police themselves...
Two weeks ago, initial numbers were put at close to 20...
The police memo is an "after action" report written five days after the raid. Police also picked up weapons, almost $50-grand in cash, drugs, and cars.
Officers found a half-ounce of marijuana, a digital scale and five drug pipes in a search of Tanner Brock's house just off-campus, the memo said.
Starting LB Tanner Brock had marijuana, a scale, and drug pipes in his possession when he was arrested. Brock was one of four TCU football players arrested in the first sweep.
Here's raw video of the original drug bust on campus...

4 Football Players among 17 arrested in TCU Drug Bust
((ht: nbcdfw.com))
Uh...it's never a good thing to have a significant drug bust on your campus. It's worse when not only students, but athletes are involved.
That being said, 17 students, 4 of whom play or we should say "Played" on the football team were arrested early Wednesday morning on and around the Fort Worth, Texas campus of Texas Christian University.
According to the report on Dallas TV station KXAS, the drugs in question were marijuana, cocaine, powdered and pill ecstasy, Xanax, Hydrocodone and other pain drugs.
The 4 football players include DT David Yendrey, DB Devin Johnson, LB Tanner Wilson Brock and OT Ty Horn.
TCU Football coach Gary Patterson was not pleased, saying "There are days people want to be a head football coach, but today is not one of those days. As I heard the news this morning, I was first shocked, then hurt and now I'm mad"
The school also released a letter to students and others from Chancellor Victor Boschini. You can read the entire letter RIGHT HERE

Uh...this is not good. We aren't going to dwell on the students here since we are a blog primarily about sports.
So we'll mention this.
The football players, they are in serious trouble. Considering what their coach had to say, it would be tough for them to "reappear" on the team, never mind the campus. But, they haven't been proven guilty yet, so we won't say anything in absolutes.
Here's a statement/Presser with TCU's police chief Steve McGee:
