Kevin Ward, Senior Lashes Out At Tony Stewart

((HT: Syracuse Post-Standard/Hannagan))

The father of the sprint car racer killed in an accident with Tony Stewart has spoken to Syracuse media and is still not happy with Stewart and how things transpired on the track.

In an extensive interview with Syracuse.com's Charley Hannagan Kevin Ward, Senior feels that Stewart is solely responsible for what happened at the Canadaigua, New York track this past weekend.

From Hannagan is the collection of her quotes from Kevin Ward, Senior:

"Apparently, Tony Stewart was the only one driving out there who didn't see him," he said.

"Tony Stewart was the best damn driver by far on the track that night. Why he had to go up as high as he did and hog my son, there's no reason for it," Ward Sr. said.

"The one person that knows what happened that night is possibly facing 10 years in prison. Is he going to say what he done?" Ward Sr. said.

Ward wants everyone to remember his son as someone who just loved to race and that seems to be the main reason he spoke to Hannagan for her article. But even if the investigation shows no malice on Stewart's behalf, he may not be completely free from any kind of charges from the Ontario County police.

"CBS This Morning" brought in Jack Ford to discuss the legal options...

Adult League Soccer Player Murder Trial Underway, DCFC Supporter's Group Helping Out Ref's Family

((HT: MyFoxDetroit))

This one is a little more than "not normal..."

A man in suburban Detroit is now, officially, on trial for second degree murder for allegedly killing a soccer referee with one punch during a recreational league soccer match back in late June.

Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad will now be on trial for trial in the death of John Bienewicz. Saad was ejected from an adult soccer game when witnesses say he turned around and punched Bienewicz on the side of the head or the neck.

The medical examiner assigned to the case testified that Bienewicz lost consciousness before he hit the ground. The punch put him in a coma and he later died.

The defense...???

Attorneys defending Saad say he got "emotional..." and claim the case is more a manslaughter case than murder.

Fox 2 News Headlines

Arraignment is set for August 7th...

Nicholas Mendola, over at Pro Soccer Talk, has a great hook to the story. The Northern Guard, the supporter's group for the NPSL's Detroit City FC, had a cursing jar for the season. Last year, they donated their proceeds to "Holligans for Heroes." This year's funds are going to Bienewicz's "Friends of" fund to help his family.

To the tune of $6,000...

Well done...

DEVELOPING: Josh Brent Gets 10 Years, But Probated

((HT: WFAA-TV))

Jerry Brown Jr.'s mother was among several who took the stand as the sentencing phase of former Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent began Thursday morning after Brent was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter in his teammate's death.

After the testimony, Brent was sentenced to 10 years and fined $10,000. But the sentence was probated to reflect the trial past and he will serve 180 days in jail...

Brown's mother, Stacey Jackson, said yesterday that she forgives Josh Brent and thinks of him as a son. Prosecutors tried to show Brent as a habitual offender who deserves prison time going back to his arrest in Illinois in 2009...

The Illinois arrest had Brent's BAC at .11, and the crash that killed Brown had Brent with a BAC at .18

Here's Rebecca Lopez with Jackson's testimony...

Cowboys Brent Accused Of Violating Bond

((HT: WFAA-TV))

Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent may be forced to stay in jail while he awaits his December trial for intoxication manslaughter.

A bond hearing is set for Friday where prosecutors will ask Brent’s bond to be revoked because the DA's office is saying Brent has repeatedly violated terms of his bond. According to prosecutors, the alcohol monitor Brent is wearing has shown signs of alcohol use on at least four different occasions. The state also claims Brent has failed to show up at bond supervision appointments.

Prosecutors will now argue because of the violations that Brent poses a threat to the community.

Brent is under indictment for the December 8, 2012 accident that killed Brent’s teammate, Jerry Brown.
Prosecutors say he was drunk at the time.

FAMU Hazing Incident Upgraded To Manslaughter

((HT: WCTV-TV))

Defense attorney Bill Sharpe says he got an email from the Florida state attorney's office telling him that the charges against his client, Rikki Wills, would be upgraded to manslaughter.

Prosecutors are charging ten Florida A&M band members and two other individuals in the 2011 hazing death of drum major Robert Champion.

Champion died in Orlando in November of 2011 at the FAMU-Bethune Cookman game after he collapsed on a band bus. Prosecutors maintain Champion was beaten so severely that he was substantially bruised and had internal bleeding.

Prosecutors maintain it was a hazing incident that ended up killing Champion.

Here's a story that Outside The Lines ran a year ago uncovering the culture of hazing at FAMU

Cowboys LB Killed In Car Crash, Another Arrested For Intoxication Manslaughter

Dallas Cowboys DT Joshua Price-Brent (pictured, right thanks Irving Police Department)
has been charged with intoxication manslaughter by Irving (TX) police after his car flipped the curb while driving at a high rate of speed a little after 2AM local time this morning...

And what does the HQ say about nothing good happening after 1AM...???

Brent was the driver of the car that also had practice squad LB Jerry Brown as passenger. Jones was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After Brown was pronounced dead, Irving police booked Price-Brent on the Intoxication Manslaughter charge.

Here's an episode of "Inside the Huddle" where Brent was a guest of Jay Ratliff and Matt Barrie last year...

PM UPDATE: Jerry Jones released the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

Regrettably, it's not the only time that Brent has been busted for a DUI-related offense...

He was busted while at the University of Illinois in 2009 for DUI, driving on a suspended license and speeding. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, two years probation, 200 hours of community service and a fine. As part of the plea bargain for agreeing to the DUI charge, prosecutors dropped an aggravated DUI/no valid driver's license charge.

Doctors In Morosini Case Face Manslaughter Charges

Three doctors are being investigated for alleged manslaughter in the April the death of Italian footballer Piermario Morosini.

Morosini collapsed and died during Livorno's Serie B match at Pescara after an on-field heart attack. Tests later revealed he suffered from an inherited heart disease. There has been no indication that this was ever picked up by any examination or physical during his entire playing career.

Here's the incident, somewhat edited down... and it's not for the squeamish...
((HT: Forzapescara/youtube))

The physicians for both teams Ernesto Sabatini and Manlio Porcellini are being investigated as is the head of Pescara's emergency services.

The three doctors were the first to attend to Morosini in, what is appearing more and more, a comedy of errors.

There are claims that a defibrillator was not on the match site and that the ambulance that took Morosini off the pitch had problems getting there since it was blocked by another car.
