Let's face it, the NFC South is dirty for the wrong reasons...

And it seems to have taken on a life if its own in today's Panthers-Saints game when Carolina QB Cam Newton went over the top and scored- despite the actions of the New Orleans Defense


In the pile, about 45 seconds in if you missed it, was the Brandon Williams punch that led to his ejection. Cameron Jordan and Ronald Powell are the two Saints that, apparently, were the recipients of the swings.

Another day, another fight at Bills camp...

At least, they're feisty...

This time, center Eric Wood and rookie defensive end Bryan Johnson exchanged punches at the end of a play during goal line drills.

Head coach Doug Marrone said he has no place for fighting in camp and on his team. He ripped into the team after the Wood-Johnson fight and had them run sprints as a reminder how much Marrone didn't like what was going on.

Sooners Mixon Suspended For Season

Oklahoma Sooners freshman running back Joe Mixon has been suspended for the entire 2014 season after his arraignment in an assault after he argued with a woman at a Norman, Oklahoma restaurant last month.

He was charged with a misdemeanor- acts resulting in gross injury- from allegedly punching a woman.

OU President David Boren agreed with the assessment of both head coach Bob Stoops and AD Joe Castiglione where:

"...Mixon will be excluded from all team activities, including being removed from the team roster. With appropriate conditions, he will be permitted to continue as a student, eligible for financial aid.

Vice President for Athletics Joe Castiglione and Head Football Coach Bob Stoops said, “As the university has demonstrated in the past, we are committed to winning the right way. As an example to others, OU sets the highest possible standards for its student athletes, coaches and staff.”

Mixon was released on his own recognizance after posting $1,000 bond. He was given a "no contact" order by the judge in the case where the accuser is concerned and his next appearance in court is set for September 23.

Adult League Soccer Player Murder Trial Underway, DCFC Supporter's Group Helping Out Ref's Family

This one is a little more than "not normal..."

A man in suburban Detroit is now, officially, on trial for second degree murder for allegedly killing a soccer referee with one punch during a recreational league soccer match back in late June.

Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad will now be on trial for trial in the death of John Bienewicz. Saad was ejected from an adult soccer game when witnesses say he turned around and punched Bienewicz on the side of the head or the neck.

The medical examiner assigned to the case testified that Bienewicz lost consciousness before he hit the ground. The punch put him in a coma and he later died.

The defense...???

Attorneys defending Saad say he got "emotional..." and claim the case is more a manslaughter case than murder.

Nicholas Mendola, over at Pro Soccer Talk, has a great hook to the story. The Northern Guard, the supporter's group for the NPSL's Detroit City FC, had a cursing jar for the season. Last year, they donated their proceeds to "Holligans for Heroes." This year's funds are going to Bienewicz's "Friends of" fund to help his family.

In a League One match-up between Swindon Town and Leyton Orient, some jagoff decided he was going to storm the pitch and take a swing at Leyton Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones...


Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade is demanding the fan be banned for life from County Ground, but the HQ won't hold its breath on that one. Slade talked to SkySports after the match:

"It was a great win but it was clouded by the fan coming on to the pitch and throwing three punches at my goalkeeper," said Slade.

"It was totally unbelievable - the worst scene I have seen since I have been a manager.

"Jamie is okay but it doesn't make it right, it is outrageous. He needs a ban for life and should never go to another football match.

"He had a long time in the six-yard box before the stewards did anything."

Swindon Town issued an-almost immediate apology to Leyton Orient...

"We will be speaking to the police with reference to their report next week," chairman Jed McCrory told the Swindon Advertiser.

"We don't condone any actions where supporters come on to the pitch and, if found guilty, he will receive a ban.

"We apologise to Jamie Jones, the Leyton Orient board members and their supporters and will review the stewarding around the ground to make sure this doesn't happen again.

"I would also like to mention that overall the Swindon Town fans during my time at the club have been impeccable. We don't want one incident to ruin the club's supporters' reputation for being a fun and well-behaved crowd both home and away."

Balotelli's Maturation Stunted In World Cup Qualifier
