Morning Wrap: BASTA Bay Area Breakdown: 49ers Loss to Raiders

Kaepernick Awful As 49ers Fall To Raiders And Lose Playoff Hopes

By: Apurv Baichwal

Follow me on Twitter: @abaichwal

After watching today’s game, I was quite literally speechless. There was nothing I could say immediately after to explain what had just occurred, and all I could think was: “Was that even football?” The 49ers just lost their seventh game of the season in only thirteen weeks, making them 7-6 and effectively out of the playoff chase. To rub salt in this wound, the 49ers lost to their Bay Area rivals, the Oakland Raiders, and since these two teams will only face each other once this year, the Raiders can now claim that they are the best football team in the Bay Area (impossible, I know). Finally, to not just rub but literally pour salt into the wound, the Raiders just pulled their second win of the season out of thin air. Yes, you read that correctly: the 49ers are only the second team to have lost to the Raiders this season, and wow was this game bad.

After a crushing 19-3 loss to the Seahawks on Thanksgiving Day, the 49ers believed it was rock bottom for their team. How could they do worse than being crushed by their vaunted division rival? However, they astounded everybody everywhere as they reached new lows today in a demoralizing 24-13 loss to the dismal Raiders, effectively ending their playoff aspirations. The Raiders moved to 2-11 on the season with the win, a result that could eventually lose them the number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Ironically, Oakland is suddenly the winner of two out of their last three, even after an abominable 52-0 loss last Sunday to Saint Louis. Today, the Raiders somehow managed to stand up to a physically superior San Francisco squad, and they quite simply controlled the game throughout.

The Raiders set the tone early, intercepting the first play from scrimmage. Kaepernick threw the ball to nobody, even though he was completely unhurried, and this single throw brought back haunting memories of the Kaepernick-of-old who would throw the ball to tightly covered receivers instead of out-of-bounds. Raiders’ safety Bradian Ross snatched the errant throw from Colin Kaepernick, supposedly intended for Michael Crabtree, and he returned it to the Raiders’ own forty-nine yard line. After the quick momentum swing, Oakland’s offense was somehow firing on all cylinders, for really the first time all season, with quarterback Derek Carr leading the Raiders all the way to the 49ers’ twenty-eight yard line. However, an unnecessary roughness penalty on guard Austin Howard stalled their progress, and forced them to settle for a fifty-seven yard field goal from their ace kicker Sebastian Janikowski to give them an early 3-0 advantage. From here, the Raiders never looked back as they continued to look like a really good football team on the field, not at all the way they have looked for most of this season.

Down 3-0 with just under six minutes to play in the first quarter, quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers broke through against Oakland’s surprisingly good defense, driving sixty yards on seven plays for a touchdown. Kaepernick connected with fullback Bruce Miller on an eight yard score to cap the drive, giving the 49ers their first lead at 7-3.

After that drive, San Francisco never looked comfortable again on offense, settling for just two field goals in the remaining three quarters. They struggled to convert on third downs, successful on just three of their twelve attempts, an anomaly for this team, and they only gained 248 total yards to Oakland’s 330.

Fortunately, the 49ers did take a 13-10 lead in the incipient stages of the second half, on Phil Dawson’s second and final field goal of the game, but they quickly lost that advantage. The Raiders subsequently marched down the field, going eighty yards on just eight plays to take a 17-13 lead, in a display of strong and swift offensive prowess. Rookie quarterback Derek Carr’s nine yard touchdown pass to fullback Marcel Reese capped the physical drive, the eventual nail in the coffin for San Francisco.

Overall, Derek Carr was as brilliant as Colin Kaepernick was awful today, as Carr completed twenty-two of his twenty-eight pass attempts for 254 yards, throwing three touchdowns and posting a 140.2 quarterback rating in the process. On the other hand, Kaepernick 18 of 33 passes for only 174 yards, one touchdown, and an ugly two interceptions. In fact, Kaepernick completed two passes more than 15 yards downfield today, yet both of his picks were also over 15 yards downfield. From this statistic, it is obvious that Kaepernick has not yet matured into a sharp downfield passer, as he still makes mental mistakes, and although he definitely has the arm strength, he does not yet possess the mental strength to consistently throw and complete deep throws. Colin Kaepernick was also sacked five times as the Raiders flummoxed San Francisco’s offensive line, forcing them out of their usual comfort zone and preventing them from adequately protecting Kaepernick.

The Niners finally found an offensive rhythm late in the fourth, when they converted a key fourth and one play at Oakland’s forty-four yard line with eight minutes left. Kaepernick threw a short seven yard pass to receiver Michael Crabtree, and kept both their game and playoff hopes briefly alive. He seemed to be in sync for the first time all game, but things changed quickly, with the Niners holding the ball at Oakland’s twenty-seven yard line down just 23-14. Suddenly, he started to lean on Crabtree more than he really should have, settling for short gains to connect with the receiver, and overthrew him mightily to set up third and long. Kaepernick was sacked by Antonio Smith on the ensuing play, forcing San Francisco to attempt a long forty-seven yard field goal. To make matters worse, rookie center Marcus Martin had to be helped off the field after the play with an apparent injury, hurting the 49ers at a position where they already have very little depth. Adding insult to injury, Phil Dawson missed wide left on his attempt from 47 yards, energizing the crowd at the O.co Coliseum, and completely deflating the 49ers. The Niners wasted five minutes and thirty six seconds on the drive, playing without a sense of urgency and letting the game, and their playoff hopes, slowly yet steadily slip away.

Overall, the passing attack was mediocre today, mainly due to Kaepernick’s ineptitude. Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin had the two highest receiving totals with 56 and 54 yards respectively, but these numbers are somewhat misleading since it took Crabtree nine and Boldin four catches to get there, meaning that thirteen passes only went for 110 yards, a terrible YPC average. With the 49ers playing from behind for most of the game, they also didn’t manage to get their rushing game going, and the Niners’ workhorse Frank Gore only finished with 12 carries for 63 yards. Kaepernick did manage 26 rushing yards on three carries, but this number was not enough to make up for his awful passing. On the bright side, even though the 49ers only managed 97 total rushing yards, this number was still superior to the Raiders’ 85, although Oakland managed to get a win where the 49ers could not.

On the defensive side, the 49ers were serviceable, but they tired due to the offense’s lack of production. Like last week against the Seahawks, the 49ers’s defense did not get ample rest time because their offense could not maintain many drives, and their fatigue showed on the field as they seemed slightly slower to the ball than usual. Even so, rookie linebacker Chris Borland still continued to amaze as he recorded fourteen total tackles, include twelve solo. He never seems to tire with the abundance of energy common to rookies, but also with the football intelligence only usually seen in veterans.

With the Niners’ second straight loss, they move to 7-6, two games out of the NFC Wild Card race with just three games left to play. They are now three games back of the first place Arizona Cardinals in the NFC, making it next to impossible for them to take the division. To do so, they would have to win their next three games, the Cardinals would have to lose their next three games, the 49ers would need to beat the Seahawks next week, the 49ers would need to beat the Cardinals in Week 17, and the Seahawks would need to lose at least two of their next three games. Essentially, the 49ers have no chance of winning the division this year. Even further, they are now in danger of missing the postseason for the first time under head coach Jim Harbaugh, as even a wildcard spot will be hard to achieve. Currently, both the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions are sitting atop the NFC Wild Card race with 9-4 records. The 49ers would need to beat out at least one of these teams to win the spot, meaning that they would need to win all of their games and half at least one of these teams lose two. Once again, the 49ers have a very slim chance of making the playoffs from the Wild Card position, although there is still a shred of possibility, especially if they beat the Seahawks next week.

Overall, the rest of this season looks very bleak for the 49ers, and it is an extremely uphill battle to even possibly get near making the playoffs. With a lot of luck and a lot of great football the 49ers could do it, but right now the odds are stacked heavily against them, and they have a lot of work to do as of now.

Rams Owner Buying Up Inglewood Property in a Hurry

((ht: utsandiego.com))

While those of us not in Los Angeles or in St. Louis are watching other things, the preparations for a potential relocation of the St. Louis Rams is growing by the day.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been quietly (no longer) gobbling up chunks of property in Inglewood, California around the old Hollywood Park Horse Track. He now owns the 60 acres around it...and according to reports, is trying to buy the 300 occupied by the former track.

Which not-so-coincidentally would be more than enough property to, say, build a football stadium.

The Rams are in still in somewhat contentious negotiations over getting either a new stadium or major renovations to their current home, the "Edward Jones Dome". But that lease expires...at the end of the season. And despite Missouri Governor Jay Nixon stepping in to help, the negotiations are not going well.

Here's a summary report from the San Diego Union-Times

Granted, this could be a leverage move by Kroenke, owners are known to do such things. And he could easily redevelop or flip the Inglewood property if he so chose. But nobody really thinks he is bluffing here.

The NFL has been adamant about getting a team back in Los Angeles despite the fact two teams have come and gone over the past 15 years. And the issue was support. Much like other mega-cities with little or no lengthy history of an NFL team and lots to do, getting people to come to games was a challenge. And it will be if a team comes too.

But the NFL is persistent and Stan Kroenke has the pockets to make it happen. And while there have been discussions that the Raiders "Might" be the team coming and the Chargers "could" come, it's likely the Rams that would be first. And they'd be back where they started.

We would not be surprised to see the Raiders follow.

Any team, including the Rams have a short window to announce their intentions right after the Super Bowl in 2015. That would allow them to potentially make the move and play in, say the Rose Bowl or the L.A Coliseum in the interim while their new park gets built.

Time is getting short, the February window will be here before you know it. Let's see if or who will be the first one's to flinch.

BASTA: Charles Woodson on Raiders’ Loss to Texans: “We Suck”

((HT: BASTA their own selves/Klotz))

Charles Woodson summed up the Raiders’ state in two word in his postgame interview: “we suck.” While he went on to explain that the Raider mistakes were fixable (with the added caveat, for now) those are still quite blunt words from the veteran safety.

Once again, the opposing team moved the ball with will against the Raiders’ defense. Arian Foster had a monster game, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown. Early on, Foster gashed the Raiders with a 40-yard run down to the one yard line. The Texans capitalized a few plays later with a touchdown pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick to none other than J.J Watt. On the ensuing drive, Foster punched in another short touchdown run. The Texans went into the half leading 17-0.

Maurice Jones-Drew sat out because of a minor hand surgery he had on Monday, so veteran Darren McFadden got the start in his place. While he got off to a slow start, he really came on in the second half and looked like he was running angry at the Texans defense. The Raiders once again showed flashes in the second half, including a read-option 40-yard scamper by Derek Carr. However, turnovers plagued the Raiders and whenever the Silver and Black made a good play, they followed it up with a miscue. To give you an idea of their turnover woes, James Jones managed to fumble the ball twice on one play. Mychal Rivera also had a fumble late in the game.

As a side note, for the second consecutive game, James Jones had a garbage time touchdown reception. On Sunday, Jones, not Rod Streater, seemed to be Carr’s preferred target. Jones had nine catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on 14 targets. Run DMC finished the day with 37 yard rushing on 12 carries and 31 yards receiving. For the second consecutive week Mcfadden looked fairly explosive, but the Raiders struggled to block J.J Watt, Brian Cushing and the rest of the Houston front.

Head coach Dennis Allen heard what Woodson had to say
((HT: CSN Bay Area))

Next up for the Raiders are the New England Patriots. While the Raiders should be able to run more effectively against New England, they may need to throw to keep up with Tom Brady and the Patriots’ passing game.

How Many Of You Had JJ Watt At Receiver In Fantasy...???

((HT: PDS Vine))

The answer is: NONE OF YOU!!!

But this happened in the Texans-Raiders game...

Do what you need to succeed...

That is all...

Bill O'Brien will never tell us on what exact page that play is on, but it worked...

Well, That's One Way To Get The Fans Involved At Training Camp

((HT: The Black and Silver Way))

The Raiders, pretty much, don't like anyone- much less the Dallas Cowboys can attest over time...

Today, this happened at training camp where the two are beating up on each other- watch the right side of the screen

Yep, that was a fan taking a swipe when the Cowboys just got too plum aggressive towards the silver and black on the last play of practice. Dallas corner B.W. Webb got it twice in the back of the head by the time it was over.

"Two teams going after it and happened to be some fans, too," Webb told ESPNDallas' Tim MacMahon. "Hey man, it happened. I wasn't expecting that. But whoever jumped on my back, I had to get them off. Hey, you got to let them know, man, the only thing protecting you is this fence."

Webb is right and, sometimes, fans insert themselves where they really shouldn't...

But it IS the Raiders...

The Raiders Are Now Teasing With San Antonio...

((HT: The Score/San Antonio Express-News, Baugh and Orsborn))

Let's face it...

The Oakland Raiders are in a crappy stadium (sometimes, literally) at present. The Oakland Coliseum is in dire need of, really, being torn down and being rebuilt as a more state-of-the-art facility. Owner Mark Davis has been trumpeting the notion of a new barn. The NFL agrees with the Raiders. Commissioner Roger Goodell even volunteered the new 49ers stadium as a home for them as a secondary tenant.

Not an idea that the Raiders like...

At...all...

From the Express-News article:

Davis met with city officials, including Henry Cisneros, then-Mayor Julián Castro, City Manager Sheryl Sculley, Mario Hernandez of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, and both Richard Perez and David McGee, the president and chairman of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, respectively.

Cisneros' son-in-law is in corporate sponsorship sales for the Raiders. And the thought is that the Alamodome could be ready in two seasons for any team that wants to play there.

It's not the first time a team would have inherited San Antonio. The Saints played there ten seasons ago as an alternate site for the New Orleans Saints during Hurricane Katrina recovery. The Gunslingers played at Alamo Stadium for their time in the USFL
((HT: ESPN))

There was also the Riders of the World League in the early 1990's

And the Texans from the American incursion of the CFL

The HQ posts all these flashbacks to act as the video portion of the teasing that the Raiders are doing with this dance and courting of a mid-30's television market.

The Portland (Oregon) Raiders? Nah....

((ht: cbssports.com))

Wouldn't this be interesting....

What if the Oakland Raiders left Oakland Alameda County Stadium and moved to Portland, Oregon?

A group of NFL fans in Portland have drawn a petition looking for just that. The fans have put together a change.org petition asking the Governor of Oregon to bring an NFL to the state's biggest city.

It should be noted Portland is the largest Metro area in the U.S with only on of the Big 3 Major League Sports organizations.

According to CBSSports.com, the Raiders and owner Mark Davis are prepared to move if they don't get a new stadium. And as we all know, the one they currently play in is a relic to a bygone era.

Read the CBSSports.com story RIGHT HERE

The petition, which apparently has over 1,600 signatures, is available to be signed, you can add your support RIGHT HERE

This is kind of amusing.

While we think the idea of NFL Football in Portland, an area that is ardent in its support of the Trail Blazers of the NBA and the Timbers in soccer, would be quite the change in culture, it ain't happening.

Now, the idea the Raiders relocate isn't out of the question. And, we are of those who believe the team will eventually return to L.A. The city of Oakland is hardly in a position to help fund a new stadium and we are guessing neither is the Davis family.

That makes L.A the leader in the clubhouse should the Raiders move.

And while it may not happen this year...or possibly even next. We think it will happen. It's only a matter of time.

To get a team...they might need to work on their tailgating--

2 Injured As Woman Jumps From Top Section In Oakland

((HT: KGO-TV))

What motivated a woman to jump from the 300 section of the Oakland Coliseum is still a mystery. But, what is certain, is that the Marine that tried to catch her- and injured himself seriously in the process- saved her life...

The woman's injuries are said to be far more serious still- even critical.
Authorities do admit she would have died immediately had it not been for the man who broke her fall of 30 feet.

Trouble Plagued Rolando McClain Retires

McClain's Mugshot from 2011 Arrest
((ht: nfl.com))

This is certainly a unique way to part ways with a team after getting in trouble.

Rolando McClain- 23-years old, 3 seasons and 2 arrests into his NFL career has decided to hang up his cleats and retire from the Baltimore Ravens.

McClain never played for the Ravens, who picked him up after being cut by the Oakland Raiders. He did have some success in Oakland, but a string of arrests in his hometown, Decatur, Alabama bought him a one-way ticket out of town.

Read about our 1st report on McClain from December of 2011 RIGHT HERE

The Ravens gave him a chance to rehabilitate his image, but another arrest last month in Decatur, Alabama put his career in jeopardy.

McClain, a graduate of the University of Alabama, was a 1st round pick by the Raiders and at times did flash some talent, but teams already have grown weary of his act. The Ravens appear to have given him an easy way out and moved him to the "Reserve/Retired" list with the league.

Black Monday Is Off And Running...7 Teams Makes Moves... (UPDATED... Now 11)

It's not quite a national holiday, but it's a day that pro football fans look at for guidance and renewed optimism... in some places, it's expected...

Others, not so much...

Like Chicago...

The Bears started out 7-1 and now Lovie Smith is fired after the team went 3-5 after the half-way point... Ian Rapoport over at NFL.com gets the HT for that one...

The appropriate amount of early discussion is hyah... on the NFL Network... and they've already asked the Broncos for permission to talk to OC Mike McCoy- which they can do since the Broncos are in a bye week...

Apparently, Bears QB Jay Cutler found out via text during his own radio show. He was, understandably, a little choked up.

The Buffalo Bills, mired in mediocrity, fired Grizzly Adams Chan Gailey... back-to-back 6-10's in three years... but how does GM Buddy Nix still have a job...???

Gailey released a statement through WGR-AM55 radio:

"I understand this is a business. We didn't get the job done. I've been called two other times to get things turned around, was able to do it, we weren't able to get this one soon enough and I understand that completely. I want to thank the fans, great Buffalo fans, great football town. These are loyal, loyal fans and I understand that. I think that the next staff will have a great opportunity for success and to make this another great football franchise. This'll probably be, and I say probably, but I think it will be the first place that's ever fired me that I'll pull for. Thank you."

The Kansas City Chiefs, stuck in one of the worst seasons on and off the field anyone can remember, fired Romeo Crennel... the HQ thinks the team mercifully put him out of his misery...

Crennel texted Rapoport, the response through on Rapoport's Twitter: "It has happened. Going home to watch it snow. Happy New Year."

According to Bill Maas, Atlanta Falcons OC Dirk Koetter will be interviewing with the Chiefs tomorrow in Atlanta...

The New York Jets fired GM Mike Tannenbaum and kept head coach Rex Ryan- for now... The Philadelphia Eagles fired Andy Reid after 14 seasons
- and the San Diego Chargers aren't interested... the HQ slams it's collective palm against its forehead...((Owner Jeffrey Lurie gives Reid a game ball for his time in front of Eagles employees on the right, thanks to the Eagles))

The Cleveland Browns, not surprising the HQ, fired both head coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckart... Heckart told the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot: "I knew I'd be gone..." when new CEO Joe Banner came in...

And the Jacksonville Jaguars fired their GM, Gene Smith, after a 2-14 season... head coach Mike Mularkey says he's safe for now... “Until I’m told otherwise, I’m the coach of this team,” Mularkey told the Florida Times-Union. 1240 UPDATE:

According to Jim Wyatt, over at the Tennessean
and others, Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams is keeping head coach Mike Munchak. Executive Vice President Mike Reinfeldt wasn't so lucky...

From Wyatt:
“He has two more years to go on his contract but I think we’d be better off without him," Adams said. 'I don’t think he was getting the job done. Mike Reinfeldt is out.”

That should fix the problem right there...

1330 UPDATE: Someone must have found the pictures that San Diego Chargers head coach and GM AJ Smith had of the Spanos family, because they're now both gone as well...

Turner knew it in his postgame presser yesterday, and now it's official...

"My only goal is the Super Bowl, and that is why I have decided to move in a new direction with both our head coach and general manager positions," Spanos said in a statement. "I am committed to our great fans, and we will do whatever we possibly can to achieve that goal.”

1345 UPDATE: Add Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and GM Rod Graves...according to Adam Schefter...

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves have been fired after a 5-11 season, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Whisenhunt, 50, was 45-51 in six seasons with the Cardinals after being hired in 2007. Graves couldn't find a replacement for Kurt Warner and will be known for trading for Kevin Kolb...

The Cardinals, who started the season 4-0, lost their next nine games.

The team also fired the following assistant coaches: Russ Grimm (Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line), Mike Miller (Offensive Coordinator), Chad Grimm (Offensive Quality Control), John McNulty (Quarterbacks), Frank Reich (Wide Receivers), and Tommie Robinson (Running Backs).

1430 UPDATE: Once again from Rapoport...

#Raiders coach Dennis Allen announce the firing of OC Greg Knapp, ST coach Steve Hoffman, OL coach Frank Pollack, LB coach Johnny Holland.

Oakland Mayor Makes Her Pitch To Keep Her Teams

((HT: KGO-TV))

And the HQ doesn't know, off the top of its collective head, if it's the whole "too little too late" thing...

Jean Quan was at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (we can't quite recall who bought the rights to the building) making her moves, publicly, to keep what she has left in town.

Warriors, A's, and Raiders...

That's what there now... and two of them in the same building that doesn't scream "revenue generator" off the top of anyone's head...

Alan Wang was present and accounted for...

The HQ agrees with FOSG Ryan Leong about the Warriors- gone...
The Raiders will go wherever they can get a big, rent-free paycheck and/or facility with all the amenities owners want today...
And the A's...??? The 14 fans that go there for home games...???

The HQ thinks they're heading to San Jose...

But that's just us...

Raiders LB Rolando McClain to do 180 days of prison time

Rolando McClain/File
Oakland Raiders LB Rolando McClain may or may not be ready to start this upcoming season with his teammates.

The reason: He's been sentenced to 180 days in jail for his role in a December assault in Decatur, Alabama.

McClain, a starter for the Raiders and former University of Alabama star was facing 4 different charges, of which he was sentenced to 45 days for each one.

If you have a second, read our original story from December of this past year, when McClain was arrested for the incident while apparently home for a funeral.

You can read it RIGHT HERE

We would be mildly surprised if McClain serves this sentence, but we could again be wrong. Most people, particularly of his stature, don't seem to ever quite have to pay the price for doing something incredibly stupid.

We could be wrong and it will also be very interesting to see what the NFL and the Jolly Roger think about this. Even if he doesn't serve all or even part of his prescribed time, we would not be shocked if the league itself makes sure that Mr. McClain doesn't get off without paying a bit of a price.

BREAKING: Hue Jackson Fired

After only one season...

But the HQ guesses injuries and pulling Carson Palmer off his couch won't play...

New GM Reggie McKenzie is to be introduced later today, and he takes over the personnel decisions of a team that started 7-4 and finished 8-8...

More when we know more...

Raiders LB Arrested in Alabama at shooting scene

Rolando McClain/Ctsy: Decatur Police/Al.com
((ht: al.com))

This is an odd story that apparently isn't so odd to the police department in Decatur, Alabama.

Current Oakland Raider and former Alabama LB Rolando McClain was apparently arrested late Wednesday after being accused of putting a gun to a man's head, forcing him to the ground and shooting a bullet near him.

McClain is facing a variety of misdemeanor charges and as of this afternoon, was still in jail.

Read the strange events from Al.com RIGHT HERE

That apparently wasn't McClain's first brush with the law in Decatur, but is certainly a strange one. We'll start the questions with this: What was he doing in Alabama on a game-week Wednesday? We're guessing the Raiders are wondering the same thing.

**We just found the answer to our question. It appears young Mr. McClain was in Decatur for a relatives funeral.**---And no, that doesn't excuse any of this.

BREAKING: Al Davis Dies At 82

One of the more colorful characters in professional football has died at the age of 82.

Al Davis went from assistant coach of the LA Chargers, to head coach and general manager of the Raiders, to Commissioner of the American Football League and finally to principal owner and president of the general partner of The Raiders

In his 48 years with the Silver and Black, the Raiders have had 28 winning seasons, including 16 in a row from 1965 through the 1980 World Championship season. In 34 of those seasons, the Raiders earned a record of .500 or better.

While, in the last decade, Davis and his exploits were more of a punch line than anything else, there is no denying his efforts in the AFL to make sure of its legitimicy and history to the vertical passing game and his "Committment to Excellence."

The team is set to make a statement later this afternoon...

Here's a "Sunday Conversation" from almost a decade ago on the four-letter...

Terrelle Pryor Picked By Raiders In Supplemental Draft, Who Didn't See That Coming

Al Davis is at it again.

The Oakland Raiders selected former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor in the third round of the supplemental draft.

Davis loves quarterbacks with a big time arm and Pryor has that.

Would you be shocked if Pryor started a game toward the end of the 2011 season, that is if the Raiders have no chance to make the NFL playoffs.

Selecting Pryor in the supplemental draft is straight from the Al Davis playbook. If a player is an athlete, fast and some kind of questionable background that player qualifies to be a Raider.

Of course Pryor is suspended for the first five games for what he did at Ohio State. That makes sense.

Police Looking For Suspects In 49'ers-Raiders Shootings...

((HT: KGO-TV))

Two men are fighting for their lives after being wounded at Candlestick Park after Saturday night's 49ers-Raiders pre-season game when two men were shot in the stomach.

One was wearing a T-shirt that had some rather unflattering things to say about the Niners. He is in critical condition.

The other was shot and suffered superficial face wounds. He is also hospitalized. Police think the shootings are related.

A man wearing a Raiders T-shirt, who was pulled off a party bus, is being called a suspect.

During the game itself, in a bathroom at the Oakland Coliseum, another man was found unconscious with severe head injuries. He is also in critical condition.

Police may have a suspect in the bathroom attack- a man described as a Pacific Islander male, between 25 and 30 years old, 6'3" to 6'5" weighing 250 lbs. with a goatee and long curly hair in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Obviously, someone that you didn't need to piss off in any way...

Here's the latest from the California version of British hooliganism...
