NBA Suit of the Night: Spencer Hawes and the Short Christmas Tree Suit

((ht: nba.com))

Oh my....

NBA players have been known on occasion to dress...um, well, a little differently at times. And keeping in the spirit of Thursday's holiday a few of them took advantage of it.

With several games being played Christmas day, there were few highlights and lots of chatter about LeBron in Miami. Which we don't care about.

What we do care about...

This.

Check out Spencer Hawes of the Los Angeles Clippers making his pre game entrance ahead of Thursday nights game vs. The Golden State Warriors. Yes, he's wearing a Christmas Tree suit.

The 7 foot plus Hawes is on the injured list, he didn't play. But he sat on the bench. In the suit, which appears a bit too short. And yeah, he got a bit of attention.

Morning Wrap: Vlade Divac Drains Half Court Shot for $90K

((ht: probasketballtalk.com))

Oh you Vlade Divac. Never change.

The former Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings center was a guest at Tuesday nights Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors game. And at some point he got to be the guest half-court shooter.

Which meant between the end of the third and beginning of the 4th quarter Divac was brought out onto the court where he promptly drained the runner from the center circle at half court.

Divac gave the crowd a golf wave, smiled and walked away with $90,000 which he immediately donated to his favorite charity.

Oh...we should add the lowly Lakers pulled out an upset win over the Warriors minus Laker star Kobe Bryant....

Boom!

Hulk Hogan and The Lukewarm Golden State Warriors Intro

((ht: cbssports.com))

Oh Hulk Hogan, in the days of yore, you could tear the roof off a WWE arena with your mere presence.

But as you've aged into your 60's, the crowd pop just isn't quite the same.

Thursday night, the Hulkster was called upon to get the crowd revved up for the intros before the New Jersey Nets-Golden State Warriors game in Oakland.

Complete with his circa 1980's intro music (Real American),  the Hulkster came down and spoke the wisdom of the epic Nets vs. Warriors matchup.

The crowd...well, at least based on the sound, wasn't quite so into it...

Former NBA Star Blaylock Gets 15-Year Jail Sentence for Vehicular Homicide

((ht: ajc.com))

Former NBA All-Star Mookie Blaylock pleaded guilty to Vehicular Homicide and other minor charges in a metro Atlanta area courtroom Monday afternoon.

The charges stem from a May 2013 traffic accident south of Atlanta when he crashed into a car driven by Monica Murphy who died on the scene. Blaylock, who was also seriously injured in the crash, agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors that calls for 7-years of jail time and 8-years of probation, though he'd be eligible to have the prison term suspended after 3-years.

While Blaylock, who admitted he had an alcohol problem, was apparently not intoxicated at the time of the crash, he was under orders not to be driving due to a seizure disorder attributed to his alcoholism.

Read more from AJC.com RIGHT HERE

Blaylock played for 13-years in the NBA and retired in 2002. He was drafted in 1989 by the New Jersey Nets and played for the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors.

Here is some video of Blaylock with the Hawks:

Brian Scalabrine: NBA Player and Comedy Genius

Look Familiar
((ht: csnne.com))

This folks, is one of the best pieces of Sports satire we may ever have read.

Brian Scalabrine, career 12th man for numerous NBA teams is returning to one of the teams he played for in years gone by: The Boston Celtics. Only this time it's as a broadcaster.

Ever the comedian and good-natured guy, Scalabrine decided to sit down with a writer--(ok, himself) and write a letter to the good people of Boston to explain his decision to come "home"....

Quoth the Scalabrine:

"I've learned a great deal in my time spent with four franchises...actually five if you count my stint in Italy because of the lockout. What was the purpose of the lockout again? I will always think of Chicago as my third home and Oakland probably as my fourth home...but not like downtown Oakland, more like the suburbs"

And yes, if you read the letter, which is too lengthy to post in it's entirety, you'll understand exactly who he is spoofing.

The "White Mamba" comes home--courtesy CSNNew England is RIGHT HERE\

Yes, he did...

We have nothing but respect for guys like this. Guys who are thankful for the opportunity to live out a dream and self-aware enough to have fun with it.

Can't wait to hear him call a game...

Check out the "Scallenge" a segment from a couple years ago when the "Mamba" took on the challenge of some smack talking fans:

Reports: Clippers Win Over Golden State Ends in Hallway Shouting Match

((ht: usatoday.com))

On the court it was business and nothing personal, or so it appeared as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Golden State Warriors Saturday night 126-121 to win Game 7 of their Best of 7 series.

But that apparently is where things got interesting.

This despite the long hugs and conversations as the two teams walked off the court. And after a tough series that was put in the spotlight after the Donald Sterling situation surfaced and nearly brought the it to a stop.

According to multiple reports, the Clipper celebration...in their own gym appeared to have carried over to the Warriors and started a heated exchange.

That "exchange" brought most of the players from both teams into the hallway separating their locker rooms and according to witnesses, some police officers to make sure things didn't get out of hand.

Apparently after some shouting and arguing, both sides cooled their jets and went home or wherever they wanted after the game.

According to the story in Sunday mornings USA Today, the exchange may have been started by some Clipper ball boys shouting how quiet it was inside the Warriors locker room after the game. The Warriors led by Stephen Curry and Steve Blake came out to confront what is believed to be the "Ball Boys. Later, reports say Marresse Speights came out and the "exchange" got heated. It apparently cooled until Clippers guard Chris Paul walked by and briefly got heated again before things stopped.

Read more from USAToday RIGHT HERE

Interesting and a bit disturbing.

The Clippers move on and will square off with the Oklahoma City Thunder which promises to be a fun series matching two of the NBA's flashiest teams.

Highlights of the Clips win over Golden State from NBA.com:

And a clip from NBA.com showing what they called the "Sportsmanship" after the game. We're guessing that was slugged before the reports of what happened off the court began to surface:

The Sterling Decision: Impact On Televison

((HT: Awful Announcing/TSN2/NBA))

Admittedly, it is a lot easier for sideline talent to interject themselves into the situations they're reporting on...

Last night, the HQ will admit that is took David Aldridge a lot of guts to talk about how the impact of the Donald Sterling banishment hit his family right in the gut...

Here's his introduction from last night's Clippers-Warriors game...

That's how deep it got for some folks last night, and the NBA is, hopefully, better today than it was the day before...

Mark Jackson Wouldn't Have People Show Up For Game 5, Sponsors Starting To Leave

((HT: Dan Patrick Show/Youtube))

Golden State head coach Mark Jackson was a guest on the "Dan Patrick Show" this morning- fresh off his 21-point Game 4 win in the firestorm that is now the Clippers-Warriors series...

He played for the Clips for two seasons in the '90s and had an interesting thought on what the proper protest should be for the next home game in Los Angeles...

And now, the corporate sponsors of the Clippers are starting to go:

"CarMax finds the statements attributed to the Clippers' owner completely unacceptable," the company said in a statement through public relations manager Catherine Gryp. "These views directly conflict with CarMax's culture of respect for all individuals. While we have been a proud Clippers sponsor for nine years and support the team, fans and community, these statements necessitate that CarMax end its sponsorship."

State Farm is thinking about it as is Kia and Virgin America and Amtrak are out now as well...

THAT'S where the NBA will take notice from this moment forward. Commissioner Adam Silver is set to have a press conference tomorrow to discuss where the league may go from here...

2PM eastern time...

Here's A Way To Send The Crowd Home Unhappy

((HT: NBA))

A last-second jumper from Steph Curry at Dallas for the win...

But Jermaine O'Neal started the offensive set by blocking a Dallas shot:

"I had missed a couple in regulation and a couple in overtime that I felt were good, so I just knew to keep shooting it, and thankfully it went in," Curry said.

Curry finished with 23 and 10. Back court mate Klay Thompson led Golden State with 27 and O'Neal had 20 and 8 for his part in the win. Dallas dropped from seventh in the Western Conference to ninth, a half-game behind Memphis and Phoenix for the final two playoff spots. Golden State, now the 6-seed, moved two games ahead of the Grizzlies and Suns in the standings.

El Bron Drops Dagger On GSW

((HT: NBATV))

Remember when everyone challenged LeBron James and wanted him to take the last shot- knowing he would pass off...

Didn't do that Wednesday night in the Heat-Golden State game...

James finishes with 36, 13, and 9 in the one-point win as Dwyane Wade sat out...

Speights Gets MVP Serenade In Sixers Blowout... Or "Can Someone Shoot The Sixers?"

((HT: CSN Bay Area))

And, no, the HQ doesn't mean that the Sixers can't shoot...
We mean, can someone put them out of their misery...

The 45 point loss to the Clippers followed by the 123-80 loss to the Warriors last night...
We guess their next loss will be by only 41 at this rate...

It was a cool evening for one of the reserves for Golden State. Marreese Speights dropped a career-high 32 off the bench and the crowd serenaded him thusly... as well they should have...

But he told Ric Bucher that he never... EVER... had a night like last night on the floor before...

Now, the irony...

Speights was a Sixers draft pick originally. And Philly became just the second team in NBA history to lose two straight games by at least 40 points each- joining the 1993-94 Sixers...

BUZZER BEATER: Iguodala Shoots Down Atlanta Hawks

Down by 2 points with 3.2 seconds left Golden State's Andre Iguodala nails the game winner to defeat the Atlanta Hawks 101-100.

Thanks CSN Bay Area
"I started thinking if my man leaves, I'll be open." Iguodala said after the game.  "He (Stephen Curry) hit me back and I made the shot."

"I was the decoy first, and then it became my play once we didn't have our first option." Stephen Curry said.  "Knowing there was three seconds left you have time to catch and see what's going on.  I just tried to make the right play.  Once I got the ball in my hands they jump off of (Iguodala) and he jumped in.  A clutch, clutch, clutch shot."

ICYMI: Spurs Sit Big 3, Win Anyway...

((HT: NBA on TNT))

The last time this happened, the Spurs sat practically everyone at Miami, sent Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, and Green and only lost by five. That didn't sit well with the Commish who fined the team a quarter of a million bucks...

It was a marquee match-up and he wanted the stars on the floor, gosh darned it...

It kinda happened again last night when the Spurs took on Golden State...

Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili sat and it took a Tiago Splitter bucket with less than three seconds left for the Spurs to win 104-102

Apparently, it was the first time that three Australians started in an NBA game with Andrew Bogut, Aron Baynes, and Patty Mills... but the Warriors are more concerned about letting one slip away that they should have won in the first place...

But it will be interesting to see if the Commish's office will do anything this time...

The Western Conference Should Be Fun...

((HT: NBA on TNT))

Just like it always is...
And, especially, if this is any indication from last night...

Warriors down two to OKC... until...

What is missed on the video is the Westbrook jumper that put the Thunder up before the final possession...

So, let it begin...

The East is unwatchable, so stay up late all year long and watch the west coast games from the pro basketball league...

Oakland Mayor Makes Her Pitch To Keep Her Teams

((HT: KGO-TV))

And the HQ doesn't know, off the top of its collective head, if it's the whole "too little too late" thing...

Jean Quan was at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (we can't quite recall who bought the rights to the building) making her moves, publicly, to keep what she has left in town.

Warriors, A's, and Raiders...

That's what there now... and two of them in the same building that doesn't scream "revenue generator" off the top of anyone's head...

Alan Wang was present and accounted for...

The HQ agrees with FOSG Ryan Leong about the Warriors- gone...
The Raiders will go wherever they can get a big, rent-free paycheck and/or facility with all the amenities owners want today...
And the A's...??? The 14 fans that go there for home games...???

The HQ thinks they're heading to San Jose...

But that's just us...

Warriors... Come Out And Play...On Frisco Waterfront

Sorry, the HQ couldn't resist...
Can you dig it...???

In San Francisco, provided the waterfront arena is built in time for the 2017-2018 season...

The team, initially, played at the Cow Palace for 11 seasons after their move from Philadelphia in the early 1960's. But they moved to, what is now, Oracle Arena when Larry Ellison bought the naming rights for the Oakland arena they play in now...

Here's the presser in full announcing the hope of San Francisco...
((HT: KGO-TV))

Owner Joe Lacob actually admitted that the building will be privately funded. The current lease over at Oracle runs out after the 2016-17 season.
