FSU Gets Win over Florida on Tipped Basket

Ooopsie!

It's bad enough to lose a rivalry game. It's worse when you lose the game on your own mistake.

Which is exactly what happened Tuesday night in the FSU vs. Florida game in Tallahassee.

Here's the set-up: Game tied at 63 with just over 2 seconds left in the hard fought game. Florida State throws the ball in. Devon Brookert is forced by the defense to throw up a 3-pointer from deep in the right corner.

Brandon's shot is short and Gators forward Jacob Kurtz goes up to knock the ball away from the hoop.

One problem--Kurtz didn't do a very good job of knocking the ball away. With just 0.4 seconds left, his soft tip hits the rim and goes in. Basket counts---For the Seminoles.

The stunned Gators just shake their collective heads while the FSU faithful stare at the play for a second before they realize what happened and start celebrating the crazy win.

High Schooler Wins Game on 2nd Half Court Buzzer Beater of Night

Let's just say Ryan Sturdivan of Woodland High School in Washington had himself a good night Tuesday.

Sturdivan scored 24 points to lead Woodland to a win over Kelso High. But it's how he got 4 of those points is what makes it a big deal.

Sturdivan ended the first half with a running heave from half court that went in at the buzzer.

And at the end of the game, with his team tied at 47, he did it again, taking the inbounds pass and throwing up a long two handed heave from just before the half court line.

Boom! It's in, game over and Woodland celebrates a buzzer beating win 49-47....

Morning Wrap: Tobias Harris With Buzzer Beater to Snap Hawks Streak

For those of us not home in front of TV's Saturday night, we missed a pretty good basketball game between two NBA Southeastern Division basketball teams.

The Orlando Magic pulled out a 100-99 win over the Atlanta Hawks after Tobias Harris drilled a 13-foot fadeaway jumper as the buzzer sounded in Orlando.

The Hawks, who were on a 9 game winning streak, thought they might have pulled out the win when Kyle Korver drained a 3-pointer with just 3 seconds to go, giving them a 99-98 lead.

But the Magic was with Orlando on Saturday, Harris led his team with 20 points giving his team their 10th win of the season.

Morning Wrap: Wizards Win on Buzzer Beating Alley-Ooop

Yes, this really happened in the NBA Tuesday night. The Washington Wizards stole a game from the Orlando Magic in Orlando on an alley-ooop pass at the buzzer.

Wizards guard Andre Miller was the trigger man on the play, throwing a perfect pass to a streaking Bradley Beal who beat his man on the curl. Beal caught the ball in front of the rim a dropped it in as the horn sounded.

The hoop gave Washington the 91-89 win and moved them to 15-6 on the season.

Morning Wrap: Blake Griffin For the Win on a 3 Point Buzzer Beater

No, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin is not known as a 3 point marksman. But he has hit one before.

Few were bigger than the three that he hit at the buzzer Tuesday night sending the Clippers to a 121-120 overtime win over the Phoenix Suns.

The bucket gave Griffin 45 points on the night, a night that apparently belonged to him.

You have to watch the shot, mostly because it hit the front of the rim, bounced high in the air...before dropping through the net.

And then the chaos ensued...

Ashland's Cole Krizancic Ends A 4 Overtime Thriller With A Buzzer Beater

For those lucky few who attended the Grand Valley State - Ashland game in Ashland, Ohio last night saw one hell of a basketball game.

The game went four overtimes and ended when Ashland's Cole Krizancic's nailed a corner three at the buzzer for a 93-92 win for the Eagles.

Here's the video of Krizancic's game winning three in the 4th overtime.

"The play basically was Wendell (Davis) to get up the floor, and Boo (Osborne) and I were in the corners," Krizancic said. "It's definitely huge."

"I'm so proud of him," Ashland head coach John Ellenwood said. "Cole hasn't had the easiest road here. To hit that shot, I'm very proud of him. He's just a winner, and that's why he's in an Eagle uniform."

Ashland is 6-0 on the season.

Morning Wrap: Monta Ellis With Crazy Buzzer Beater Win for Mavs

Even the NBA sometimes has some crazy looking buzzer beaters.

Wednesday night, Monta Ellis of the Dallas Mavericks dropped a running, twisting, fadeaway 3 pointer as the buzzer rang in Milwaukee giving the Mavs a 108-105 win vs the Milwaukee Bucks.

Ellis sort of, may have travelled on the shot...he appears to have taken several steps before launching it. But traveling is rarely called in the NBA.

Still the play was reviewed as all shots at the buzzer in the NBA are and the refs called it good.

Game over...

Here's the shot, make the call for yourself:

Starting the season 0-5 is no fun and the Maine Black Bears needed a win Tuesday night against Wagner.

Valjarevic ended the game with 17 points.

“I like the pressure. I like the challenge,”  Valjarevic said on taking the last shot.

BUZZER BEATER: Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes Crazy Lay Up At The Buzzer

The video quality is very poor because it's from a fan's camera phone but Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes takes the inbounds pass from Spencer Parker and puts up a wild contested lay up at the buzzer and wins it for the Falcons 64-63 over Detroit.

Holmes' buzzer beater capped off a brilliant performance with 26 points and 18 rebounds.

Here's a cleaner look under the basket.

BUZZER BEATER: Alex Tuci's Touch Inside A Game Winner For Manhattanville

Here's a buzzer beater from NCAA Division III.

With 2.7 seconds left in the game there's only enough time for a catch and shoot.

The inbounds pass goes inside to freshman Alex Tuci who hits the turnaround at the buzzer for the game winner for Manhattanville 56-54 over SUNY-Brockport.

Love the tiny intimate gym at Mahattanville College.

Tuci finished with 11 points, one of 3 Valiant scorers in double figures.  Juan Camacho led the Valiants with 16 points.

BUZZER BEATER: Cedrick Bowen Slam At 0,1 In OT Defeats Ole Miss

Charleston Southern's Cedrick Bowen has the honor with the first buzzer beater of the college
basketball season and it was a damn good one.

With that Charleston Southern defeated Ole Miss in overtime 66-65.  Bowen would finish with 12 points.

Here's Bowen's reaction after the game. (Thanks WCSC-TV Charleston, S.C.)

Morning Wrap: Grizzlies Beat Kings With Crazy Finish

((ht: nba.com))

The great thing about sports is sometimes you see games end in ways you've never seen before. Last nights Sacramento Kings-Memphis Grizzlies game in Memphis is a perfect example of it.

The Kings had dominated Memphis for most of the night, leading by as much as 26 in the 1st half.

But the Grizz chipped away, trying to hold their 17 game home winning streak in tact. And on the heels of Mike Conley's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left, they took a 109-108 lead.

But the Kings weren't done. DeMarcus Cousins got fouled driving to the basket and hits the two free throws, giving Sacramento a 110-109 lead.

And with 0.3 seconds left on the clock, Grizzlies forward Vince Carter throws the ball in to a wide open Courtney Lee who grabs the ball and banks it in all in one motion as the buzzer sounds.

Grizzlies win...game over.

Morning Wrap: Lance Stephenson's Buzzer Beater in 2-OT's for the Win

((ht: foxsports.com))

If you were like us, you probably did not stay home and watch TV Friday night. And apparently we missed a couple of crazy performances.

Like the one delivered by Lance Stephenson of the Charlotte Hornets.

Stephenson ended a long and crazy game in Charlotte against the Atlanta Hawks when he drilled a 30-plus foot 3 pointer as the buzzer. And he hit the shot at the end of the 2nd overtime. Had he missed, the two teams still might be playing.

Charlotte got the win, 122-119. Stephenson, an offseason free agent signee who last played for Indiana got to play the hero. And we have our first highlight to show from Friday night.

All is well.

Morning Wrap: Gordon Heyward at The Buzzer For The Win

Lost in the overhype about LeBron James and the coverage of the crappy New York Knicks has been a pretty good start to a well-balanced NBA.

And one of the better games so far happened Wednesday night in Utah when the Jazz squared off with the Cleveland LeBrons.

Thanks to a game winning jumper by Utah's Gordon Heyward, the Jazz sank the LeBron's 102-100.

It wasn't due to lack of effort on either part. LeBron James dropped a falling away 3-point shot with 3.4 seconds left and got fouled by Derrick Favors. The free throw tied the game at 100.

The Jazz got the ball, got it to Heyward, who calmly dropped a 21-footer as the horn sounded.

The win got Utah to 2-3 on the season, the LeBron's fell to 1-3 and have totally perplexed the drooling national media who just assumed they'd dominate the world.

Jeff Carter Plays "Beat The Clock"

((HT: NHL on NBCSN))

It was one that Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist should have kept in the glove, but it entered the net with less than a second to go in the first.

The only .7 of a second that the Kings had led in regulation in the Stanley Cup Final before the second period began...

ICYMI: Buzzer Beater Madness: Damian Lillard Knocks Rockets out of Playoffs

This may be the best, if not biggest buzzer beating shot thus far in the NBA Playoffs. And we only say this because the playoffs aren't over until July.

Scene setter: Portland and Houston played late Friday night at the Rose Garden with the Blazers holding a 3-2 series lead. Houston takes a 98-96 lead on a layup by Chandler Parsons.

But 0.9 seconds were left on the clock.

That was enough for Portland. Damiam Lillard gets the inbounds pass, turns--and launches the ball towards the basket, well behind the 3-point line on the top left side of the court.

Lillard gets the shot off before the buzzer...

And it went in.

Game over. Blazers win 99-98 and win the best of seven series sending the over-hyped Rockets home for the summer.

Here's your video from NBA.com , and it's pretty damn good...

Frozen Four Buzzer Beater: Minnesota Scores With Less A Second

((HT: ESPN/NCAA))

Union gets their first-ever finals appearance in the Frozen Four after a surprising win over Boston College in one semi-final.

The other went to the bitter end and it looked like their match with North Dakota was heading to overtime.

But, then this happened...

Justin Holl scored a short-handed goal with 0.6 seconds left to give Minnesota a 2-1 win. All three goals in the match were scored with less than ten minutes left in regulation. The Golden Gophers advance to their 11th championship game and first in 11 years- the time it won the last of its five titles.

Here's A Way To Send The Crowd Home Unhappy

((HT: NBA))

A last-second jumper from Steph Curry at Dallas for the win...

But Jermaine O'Neal started the offensive set by blocking a Dallas shot:

"I had missed a couple in regulation and a couple in overtime that I felt were good, so I just knew to keep shooting it, and thankfully it went in," Curry said.

Curry finished with 23 and 10. Back court mate Klay Thompson led Golden State with 27 and O'Neal had 20 and 8 for his part in the win. Dallas dropped from seventh in the Western Conference to ninth, a half-game behind Memphis and Phoenix for the final two playoff spots. Golden State, now the 6-seed, moved two games ahead of the Grizzlies and Suns in the standings.
