More Trouble for UGA Football: Linebacker Arrested for DUI

Davin Bellamy
((ht: macon.com))

Safe to say it's not been the quietest offseason in University of Georgia football history.

The Macon Telegraph reports early Saturday morning, backup linebacker Davin Bellamy was pulled over and arrested on DUI and speeding charges by the Athens-Clarke County PD.

Just 4 days ago, the Dawgs had to deal with DL Jonathan Taylor getting arrested and charged with assault. Taylor was dropped from the program the next day.

In Bellamy's case, the charges are technically misdemeanors and whether you call this trivializing things or not, it's something college students do. Quite frequently.

Read the full story on what happened from the Telegraph RIGHT HERE

Per the Telegraph, the school has the ability to make Bellamy sit out for two games. Since this incident just happened (5am Saturday, we're posting this at 8:30a Saturday), the University nor coach Mark Richt have commented or had a chance to review what happened.

Only time will tell what they decide to do.

And yes, this season's camp opens in just a few days. It's this time of year coaches get nervous because they don't technically get to keep close tabs on players. And like we said, so far, the week for the Dawgs can't get much worse.

Star WR Implicated, D-Lineman Dismissed from UGA Football

Jonathan Taylor/UGA DL/Athens-Clarke County Jail
((ht: ajc.com))

The semi-quiet offseason for the Georgia Bulldogs is quiet no more. And the flurry of activity comes but just days before the opening of camp.

There are two stories here:

(Issue #1):

A "5-Star" recruit has been implicated in a dormitory robbery earlier in July. AJC.com reports Darnell Saloman is wanted by UGA Police as a suspect in the robbery at Busbee Hall where 2 female students reported a stolen I-Phone and a wallet with cash and credit cards. They've issued a warrant for his arrest.

Saloman was in Athens for UGA's "Dawg Night" camp.

Saloman's coach in Florida, Mike Tunsil issued a statement saying his rising junior receiver is innocent and that he'll be cleared of charges.

(Issue #2):

Sophomore nose tackle Jonathan Taylor was dismissed from the Bulldogs football team shortly upon his release from the Athens-Clarke County jail Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor was in jail on aggravated assault/family violence charges after a complaint was registered he had assaulted his girlfriend this past weekend.

Taylor was already on thin ice after being arrested back in March with a couple of teammates on "theft by deception" charges. They were trying to double dip meal reimbursement checks.

For you SEC types this raises a few questions. Several columnists in the Atlanta area are using this to say Georgia recruits the wrong type of kid. We would argue college football in general, the SEC specifically has the same problem.

It's the age old dilemma.

How do you compete with teams like LSU who forgave Jeremy Hill after rape and assault charges or Auburn who takes Josh Harvey-Clemons after he's dismissed in Athens.

Are there bad kids in College Football? Yes. Are there kids playing who probably shouldn't be? Absolutely.

The price of admission for an elite team is different than it used to be. You have to hope and cross your fingers kids you bring in behave. You know there's a chance they won't. They're college kids, they do stupid things.

That doesn't excuse either of these kids...or anyone else.

But don't preach on one hand the sanctity of good kids while on the other hand saying you can't compete unless you are pulling from the same pool everyone else is.

It doesn't work both ways.

UGA Season Wrap-Up Video: Nicely Done

((ht: coachingsearch.com))

Okay, as a long time Videographer, Editor, Writer and Producer, I can appreciate great work. And quite honestly, this is damn impressive.

The guys on the University of Georgia Video Team put together a season ending video called "One Dream", and it's about as pitch perfect as one of these things could be.

There are several messages in here, and quite honestly, for even the most cynical of college football fans, they are the good messages, the one's the game is supposed to be about.

So for our friends in Athens, we post this for you. Your football team may not have achieved all the goals it set out for, but the video guys, well, it would be hard pressed to find better.

Well done. Very well done.

Apparently Georgia Football is popular in Montana

((ht: blutarsky.wordpress.com))

Are you ready for your good laugh of the day?

We'd like to introduce YOU, College Football fan....and YOU Georgia Fan, to the Montana Project.

The behind the scenes "Man on the Street" or in this case "Sports Bar" interview-a-thon was done by a displaced Georgia Bullodgs fan after reading a column by Sports Illustrated writer Stewart Mandel back in 2007.

The end result some 5-years later, as wonderfully produced by the brains behind the "Get the Picture" blog and camera guy Hoppy Hopkins, is very, very funny. And worth your 4 and a half minutes to watch.

You should also read the explainer. It's quite funny and well worth the read.

Go to the blog RIGHT HERE

And no, in no way, shape or form does this speak badly of Montana College Football fans, in fact, we are quite impressed with their football knowledge.

Samuel L. Jackson gets his "G" on....

((ht: leatherhelmetblog.com))

Okay, we are the 1st to admit we are a mark for pretty much anything with Samuel L. Jackson in it. And due to our indirect connections with Georgia Football and our Atlanta base of operations, we tend to be up on most things UGA.

That's why we feel compelled to repost this video that our friends at LeatherHelmetBlog.com found. (Though it's from an actual UGA fan site)

In it, Samuel L. speaks glowingly (albeit scripted) of Athens, Georgia Football, commitment, teamwork and all that other pep-talk stuff.

And we are pretty sure that the origins of the video trace back to the school and a "Viral" site that they have created, called Commit to the G.

The link is HERE

By the way, this also totally explains why Samuel L. was at UGA Football practice August 22nd. If you don't know of what we speak....click here

Since we no longer work UGA games, we'll have to rely on our friends to let us know which week this video debuts--if it hasn't already--on the big screen at Sanford Stadium.

The Mutherf*@$!'n truth: Samuel L. Jackson at UGA Practice

Courtesy: @WeRunThisState
((ht: WeRunThisState))

Well, well, well. It appears the University of Georgia had a visitor at practice this week in Sanford Stadium. That visitor appears, at least by the photo, to be none other than Samuel L. Jackson his-ownself.

We think the picture, provided by @WeRunThisState (UGA Football's official Twitter account) on Twitter was taken at Wednesday's scrimmage, but thus far, we've seen no report to confirm this. That's Bulldog head coach Mark Richt with his back to you.

And really, there isn't any special reason we mention this other than we think Samuel L. Jackson epitomizes "Cool" and we are guessing his appearance probably went over pretty well out there in Athens.

We're guessing this wasn't part of his pep talk to the team: (but how cool would it be if it was)
