Colorado Wins, It's A Miracle

Really, it was a miracle that Colorado defeated Washington State Saturday in Pullman, Washington.
The Buffalos were down by 17 mid-way through the fourth quarter.  Then the Buffs offense went nuts with three touchdowns in the final 7:06 to stun the Cougars 35-34.

Here’s the video of Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb’s four yard touchdown run on a designed draw with nine seconds to go to tie the game. The extra point won it. (Thanks Fox Sports)

Was Colorado head coach Jon Embree emotional or what.

It was very conceivable that going into the game against Wazzou the Buffs were arguably the worst college football program in the country.

Colorado opened the season losing to in-state rival Colorado State 22-17. Then came an inexcusable home loss to Sacramento State 30-28. Last week the Buffs gave up 665 yards to Fresno State as the Bulldogs prevailed 69-14.

The folks at CU say this game was more than a miracle than the Miracle at Michigan in 1994 when Kordell Stewart hail mary to Michael Westbrook.

Enjoy it Buff fans, you deserve this one.

Sacramento State Upsets Colorado

Edgar Castaneda is a hero Sunday morning in Sacramento.  Castaneda’s 30 yard field goal at the end of the game gave the Sacramento State Hornets a 30-28 win over Colorado.
"I was relaxed. I was calm," Castaneda said. "I wasn't paying attention to, 'Oh, it's a game-winning field goal.' It's just another kick."

The “just another kick” gave the Hornets a win over a Pac-12 foe for the second year in a row.  Last year Sacramento State defeated Oregon State 29-28 in overtime.
Check out Castaneda’s game winner (Thanks Pac-12 Network)
Castaneda wasn't on scholarship, he walk-on the team. After the game Sac. State head coach Marshal Sperbeck rewarded Castaneda with a scholarship. Going 3-3 in field goals including a game winner to defeat a Pac-12 team I would say he has earned it.

The cost of Galactic Realignment: Colorado athletics gets loan to cover debt

((ht: dailycamera.com))

Still want to make the argument that conference realignment is for the "Betterment" of the school and the game?

Well then you might want to sit back and read a little about this story.

The University of Colorado Athletic Department reportedly has had to take a $10 million "Bridge" loan from the school and the state university system to help cover a budget shortfall created by the Buffalo's move from the Big 12 to the Pac 12.

Yes, that's right, it's now on the students and taxpayers of Colorado to back and possibly pay for the move.

Oh...the school gave the athletic department $3 million more...that it doesn't have to pay back to help cover the cost of the move. The excuse "The move benefited the entire school".

Now...we will say, for those of you who read this far, the school is likely to recoup its $10 million once the Athletic Department starts getting their cut of the Pac 12's very, very lucrative TV deal.

Read the entire Daily Camera story RIGHT HERE

So you are probably saying "What's the big deal?" The "Big Deal" is that in this time of rising tuitions and supposedly escalating cost of going to and operating colleges, its somewhat surprising they could...at the drop of a hat, hand over $10 million.

It also is a big deal because AGAIN, this is all about the chase for ESPN's money. Sure, we get that its no longer a pure "Student-Athlete" game, despite what the school presidents say. It's big business. And school's have to do what they have to do to make money. We get that, its they way our system works.

We just feel badly for the next generation of kids who want to go to college and are being priced out of the system. And no, going to college does not make you "A Snob" like some dumb-ass politicians try to claim. It should be an opportunity open to anyone who can qualify instead of just those few that can afford it.

Really...wait, stop, nobody should be able to go to college except athletes, right Rick?

Geez...we got all political again...sorry.
