Interesting Night In CWS: One Player Backed Up His Presser Comments

((HT: ESPN/NCAA))

Sacramento State got their first-ever win in College World Series history and it came at a good time- knocking off Arizona State in an elimination game.

The Hornets scored three in the bottom of the 8th and held off ASU, 5-4
Interesting thing about the win was that slugger Rhys Hoskins called that shot after the team lost in the opening game to Cal Poly

And that's how they're still alive in the Cal Poly bracket and the two get a rematch Sunday afternoon

((HT: Zach Bloxham's Vine))

Another late ending for us all... a 75-footer in overtime gives Sac State the win over Weber State...
And another play-by-play explosion...

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

TWTW: The Upsets Round One- Arizona, UCLA, Sacramento State, North Dakota State

((HT: newsok.com))

By the oklahoma State coaching staff's own admission, it was a poor night of everything- too many penalties (school record) and four turnovers for starters...

And very few people would have thought the 'Pokes would have given up 59 points to Rich Rod...

Berry Tramel and Gina Mizell discuss...
UCLA made its point to be inside the Top 15 (really) under new head coach Jim Mora with their back-and-forth game that ended up in the upset of Nebraska... Gus and Charles Davis discuss... ((HT: Fox Sports)) And, there's a battle in the state of Colorado to determine which team is the worst in the state- Colorado or Colorado State... The Rams did their part in contributing in their 22-7 loss to I-AA North Dakota State... ((HT: valleynewslive.com)) Valley News Live - KVLY/KXJB - Fargo/Grand Forks Colorado State coaches and players, naturally, were less than pleased... ((HT: ColoradoStateUniversity)) The Buffaloes ended up losing to Sacramento State on a last-minute field goal... CU head coach Jon Embree is either way out of his league coaching this team or isn't being given the tools to make it happen the way he wants... The HQ is thinking it's somewhere in the middle... Sacramento State Upsets Colorado

Edgar Castaneda is a hero Sunday morning in Sacramento.  Castaneda’s 30 yard field goal at the end of the game gave the Sacramento State Hornets a 30-28 win over Colorado.
"I was relaxed. I was calm," Castaneda said. "I wasn't paying attention to, 'Oh, it's a game-winning field goal.' It's just another kick."

The “just another kick” gave the Hornets a win over a Pac-12 foe for the second year in a row.  Last year Sacramento State defeated Oregon State 29-28 in overtime.
Check out Castaneda’s game winner (Thanks Pac-12 Network)
Castaneda wasn't on scholarship, he walk-on the team. After the game Sac. State head coach Marshal Sperbeck rewarded Castaneda with a scholarship. Going 3-3 in field goals including a game winner to defeat a Pac-12 team I would say he has earned it.

TWTW: The Upsets- Notre Dame, Duke, Oregon State (With Bonus Virginia and VaTech Coverage)

((HT: WSBT-TV/WRALSportsfan.com))

And, yes, the HQ knows that this is kind of a stretch...

A lot of people had South Florida taking out the fighting Irish... it took almost six hours through two weather delays, but it finally happened. And it took USF about six hours to print the t-shirt...

And the HQ also knows that Richmond is a class-A I-AA outfit while Dook is a perpetual struggler in the Aay-Cee-Cee...
Sean Robertson has the details with bonus coverage of VaTech-App State and UVa-William and Mary...
((HT: WTVR-TV Richmond))

But the funkiest game of the day, when it comes to upsets, was with Sacramento State and Oregon State... and the Beavers were not nice...
