That would be Julius Brown, who led the Rockets with 20 points and provided the dagger to the Buffalo Bulls.

"When I released the ball I couldn't see where it was." Brown said. "I didn't see it go in actually."

Not only did Julius Brown's buzzer beater defeat Buffalo 67-65 it capped off what was a big night for the junior guard from Markham, Illinois.  Earlier in the game Brown became the 42nd Toledo Rocket to score 1,000 points in a career.

Toledo maintains a three way tie for the top of the MAC Western Division with a couple of directional Michigan schools, Eastern and Western.

The Rockets face MAC Eastern Division leader Akron Saturday on the road.

BUZZER BEATER: Nathan Boothe With A 3 Point Winner For Toledo

Toledo Freshman Nathan Boothe had failed to knock down a three point shot in four attempts but the ball was in Bothe’s hands with 1.4 seconds left and the Rockets down by two to Miami (Oh).
Boothe picked the perfect time to finally can a three point shot.

"I got it, had confidence to shoot it, and luckily made it," Boothe said.
Toledo head coach Tod Kowalczyk believes Boothe, who is a center,  is one of the best shooters on the Rocket team.
Boothe proved the coach right nailing a game winning three points shot at the buzzer for Toledo’s 65-64 win over Miami (Oh).
Most importantly Boothe’s game winner extended the Rockets win streak to four games.  Toledo evened the overall record to 10-10, now 6-3 in the MAC.
Toledo might be peaking toward the MAC tournament and sneak into the big dance with a successful conference tournament run.

OSG Bowling: Holy Toledo! Rockets Survive Military Bowl

((HT: WTVG-TV Toledo))

In a game that, pretty much, had everything- from Air Force converting more fourth-downs than having actual punts, onside kicks, kickoffs returned for scores, all that fun post-season stuff...

Wouldn't you know that another trick play would cost the Air Force in their Military Bowl game with Toledo...

A botched two-point attempt with less than a minute to go gave the Rockets and their 32-year-old head coach the win...

Here's how it happened...

And the HQ will admit that it was nice to see RFK in action ((or was it MAC-tion?)) for the game... and while it didn't look quite like a sell-out, it looked like a solid crowd on a cold day...

Good write-off for Northrup Grumman...

TWTW: Toledo Asks Syracuse Win Vacated

((HT: WTVG-TV Toledo))

Okay, we all know that Toledo got massively screwed in their loss to Syracuse on Saturday... it should have been a 30-29 win for the visitors, but it was a video instant replay boof that took the win away from them...

As a result of the protest and the protestations...

BIG EAST Conference coordinator of football officiating Terry McAulay has issued the following statement...

"After studying the videos of the Syracuse extra point attempt at 2:07 of the fourth quarter, we have concluded that the ruling on the field that the kick passed between the uprights was incorrect, and that the replay official made an error in failing to reverse that ruling. In reviewing the video, we have determined that the angle from behind the kicking team shows conclusively that the ball passes outside the right upright.

Our review of the process determined that the replay official mistakenly focused his attention on the sideline angle, which proved to be distorted. We are confident that our officiating staff will learn from this situation in order to prevent a reoccurrence."

Here's the latest from the other U-T...

There's no way this gets overturned and we appreciate the Rockets bravado...

Scooter Pleads Guilty In Toledo

((HT: WTVG-TV Toledo))

Former University of Toledo football player Harvey "Scooter" McDougle Jr. appeared Monday in Detroit federal court and pleaded guilty to working with Gary Manni- who allegedly placed bets on Rockets football and basketball games. He says he accepted more than $5,000 in exchange for information about the Rockets in 2004-05.

He ended up pleading guilty to "conspiracy to influence sports through bribery."

McDougle is the third former Toledo athlete to plead guilty. Ex-football player Quinton Broussard returns to court for a guilty plea August 3rd.

The government doesn't allege that McDougle altered his performance to suit gamblers, but their suit says he played a key role in recruiting basketball players to consider shaving points.

Manni has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy.

Of course, he has...

Here's the initial story on the plea bargain...
