Rory McIlroy + Yale Bowl= Target Practice

((HT: NewHavenOpenTennis))

This is what happens when your girlfriend is a very good tennis player...
You get dragged to try the occasional stunt for her upcoming tournament

Rory McIlroy was taken to Yale Bowl to see if he could knock tennis balls out of the light rough and send them out of the stadium...

Hilarity ensues...

Guess he got it out of the tunnel...

Patrick Witt may not have been totally truthful about Rhodes Scholar Candidacy

((ht: nytimes))
Patrick Witt

Wow!

Back in November, OSG Sports along with many other outlets reported on the story of now former Yale quarterback Patrick Witt making a decision about playing in the Yale/Harvard game rather than be in New York for a formal interview for a potential Rhodes Scholarship.

Well, it appears, that decision wasn't as "Painful" nor a statement of support for his team as we were led to believe.

The New York Times reports that Witt apparently had his candidacy for the prestigious honor suspended a week earlier after the trust found that Witt had been accused of sexual assault by an unnamed female student at Yale.

There was never a police report filed and the Times says Yale didn't believe it "fit" the criteria for a formal complaint. And in fact, the incident may or may not ever be truly known.

This comes on the heels of Witt's coach, Tom Williams being forced to resign after it was revealed he put on his resume that he too had been considered for a Rhodes scholarship that he passed on to play in the pros.

Confused?

The Times did extensive research on Witt and rather than try and explain the background, you should really click on the link to their story, it's fascinating.

Read the Richard Perez-Pena story on NYTimes.com RIGHT HERE

Okay then.

The story certainly doesn't paint Witt in a great light. Nor is it kind to Yale. But on the surface, no laws were "officially" broken, no rules violated. Witt appears to have just not been as forthcoming as perhaps he should have. It doesn't take away his academic achievements at Yale nor the accomplishments on the football field.

But it does raise some questions about honesty and truthfulness. There is nothing wrong about boasting about accomplishments like being a candidate for a Rhodes scholar. All anyone, we think, would ask is "Be truthful about what you say".

Yale's Williams Gone... Resume Bites Him...

Two problems for, now, former Yale head coach Tom Williams...

First reported by OSG hyah...

One, he was listed as a Rhodes candidate in 2009- which he wasn't...

Williams tried to 'splain it by saying he went through the early stages, but didn't follow all the way to the application stage.

And, two, he had himself as a member of the San Francisco 49ers practice squad in 1993 on his online bio for Yale. Second problem- he wasn't on the practice squad- he had a tryout and that's as far as it got...

So, that pretty much did him in...

"I am extremely proud of my academic, athletic and coaching career,"
he said in a statement. "If there was confusion created, I take full responsibility. The timing of this inquiry has been difficult for everyone. At this point I believe it is in the best interest of my student-athletes and Yale University that I step down."

Maybe there's an opening at Central Florida...

Here's highlights from this year's The Game...
A game where Williams went 0-3...

One dead tailgating before Harvard-Yale game

One woman is dead and two others were seriously hurt Saturday morning while in a tailgating lot getting ready for the annual Harvard/Yale game, being played this year at Yale in New Haven, Connecticut.

New Haven Police tell the New Haven Register that a U-Haul went out of control, plowing into the group. The driver of that truck was taken into custody and police are investigating, trying to determine what happened and why it happened.

That section of the popular tailgating lot has been closed off and the game was to kick off on schedule at noon Saturday.
