The HQ will admit that it will be a little more than odd not covering Larry Campbell when high school football season comes around in the state of Georgia.
After being a co-head coach for one season, Campbell took over for his mentor, Thomas Bunch, and piloted one of the most successful programs in the country.
He retired after last season was completed, and with a month before the new season begins in Lincolnton, his time was recognized in the town he helped put on the map.

College Football Stadium Site Moved Because Of Eagles

Berry College is in the process of adding a new football stadium to their facilities to go with their burgeoning football program in NCAA Division III.
Here's a piece the HQ did on the Reinhardt and Berry College programs in Year One
They started thinking about building their own barn on campus, had Valhalla all picked out, but got visitors- bald eagles.
They put up a webcam to show everyone the eagles as they net- and it ended up with over 17-million views

The school is thinking discretion and moving across the street is the better idea...

"We didn't see the eagles coming," commented Berry President Steve Briggs. "But they certainly knew what they were looking for in a college. It would be difficult to find a more fitting home for a pair of nesting bald eagles than Berry's amazing campus. The eagles epitomize this place— both its uncommon beauty and its educational opportunity." So, the Eagles win and the Vikings get more room for their new barn.

Hey, Look!!! A Bunch Of NFL People With Shovels And Hard Hats

Who knew that you could coordinate the arrival of the NFL owners, the commissioner, and a bunch of politicos to wear shiny helmets and dig into a make-shift dirt box to have a ceremonial dirt-moving...???
Who knew, right...???
That stuff NEVER happens...
An amazing batch of coordination came together for an official ground-breaking for ground that had already been broken.
Here's Kevin Rowson at the soon-to-be old home of the Falcons where the owner and the important people had their moment...
The HQ admits it will be interesting to see if the new Falcons barn gets any consideration for the Roman Numeral Classic- considering the stigma the city and stadium still have from the last visit.
Why does this feel like an IOC pitch meeting from this moment forward...???

OSG High: $60M Stadium Closed For Repairs

The HQ knows all about the idea that high school football stadia are cathedrals in their home towns for fans, students, and parents. But the Allen (TX) ISD constructed a $60-million stadium for the Allen High School football team...
After only 18 months, it is now closed down because of a bunch of cracked concrete...
And that's not a good thing...
For Allen ISD or, especially, the contractor Pogue Construction...

Thanks SEC: Texas A&M to Expand Stadium to 102,000 ((Update--it's 102,500))

So Texas A&M how's life after your first season in the SEC?
Must be pretty good living. You have a wildly successful 1st football season, beat Alabama, have the Heisman Trophy winner on your roster and make it to a pretty darn good bowl game.
How do you celebrate?
By expanding your football stadium. Making it "Texas Sized"
Yes, that's right. A&M is doing the most SEC of all things they can do by expanding Kyle Field. According to KBTX-TV, the schools Board of Regents is expected to look at and most likely approve a "Re-Development" to the Aggies home field, expanding the capacity to as much as 103,000.
((UPDATE 5/2--It was approved and it's gonna be big. 102,500, making it the largest in the SEC by about 100 seats.))
That number would make it the fourth stadium in the country with a capacity over 100,000. And it would put Kyle Field on par with the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium, which holds nearly 102,500.

So, here's a question to you Texas A&M fan, is it safe to call the new and improved stadium "The House that Johnny Football Built"?
We're assuming the University has the money to do this and isn't going to mortgage the future by doing it. And while the Aggies should be congratulated for their early SEC success, they still have to duplicate it.
We do find it interesting that the city and county are chipping in with a portion of the cost by adding a higher hotel/motel tax. We aren't aware of any municipalities that do that for a public institution.
Congratulations A&M, you've truly arrived as a "Big Time" player.

St. Louis Is On The Clock
Now that the Minnesota Vikings seem to have their stadium issues resolved attention now turns to the city of St. Louis and the possibility the Rams might return to L.A.
The St. Louis Rams appear to be the leader in the clubhouse to land in Los Angeles.
The Rams and the St. Louis Convention and Visitiors Commission are at an impasse as to how to upgrade the Edward Jones Dome.
The Rams want a retractable roof which could cost in the neighborhood of 200 to 300 million dollars. The commission proposed spending $124 million in upgrades, half from the taxpayers and half from the team. The Rams rejected that.
If both sides remain apart then it goes to arbitration on June 15th.
The Rams can escape their lease in January 2015 and are free to leave St. Louis if the Edward Jones Dome isn't one of the top facilities in the NFL.

Report: LA Football stadium losing steam

Well...it was a nice thought, albeit somewhat pie-in-the-sky.
According to a report produced by Yahoo Sports reporter Jason Cole, the chances of an NFL stadium being built in downtown Los Angeles are shrinking by the day.
Cole reports that the sticking point in negotiations are primarily AEG's Phil Anschutz's requirement that he be allowed to purchase a minority stake in any team that would relocate to LA. Oh, that stake would come at a pre-set discount too. Anschutz also wants a rental agreement on the stadium.
The NFL...well, they aren't so enamored with that idea, but Anschutz is sticking to that plan.

While we see Anschutz's point in asking for something in return for fronting $1 billion for the stadium, we still think the whole idea is a bad one. Sure, we understand the NFL desperately wants to return to LA, but we just don't see that happening.
For those of you who say "Plenty of teams will relocate", we say Bull*%#!. Every team that is thinking about it will use Los Angeles as a negotiating tactic to get what they want. It already will be getting the Vikings a new stadium. The Jaguars, while they "Could" leave, we don't believe the new ownership will do that any time in the near future. Sure, we know they have attendance issues, but knowing the Jacksonville market as we do, its a statement on the economy and the incredibly bizarre and poor personnel decisions by management.
Oh...we might add this story from today's LA Times:
There are rumblings in LA LA land that the Magic Johnson consortium that just bought the Dodgers have contemplated putting a football stadium next to Dodger stadium. And while that might be a more plausible idea than the AEG plan, we wonder if they have the capital after dishing out $2 billion for the baseball team.

We really, REALLY, think the NFL is trying to force a square peg in a round hole here. Sure, a team in LA will give them potentially a ton more eyeballs and better access to the nations 2nd largest city. But really, is hurting them by not being there?
Its not like the NFL isn't the most popular Sports league in all the land. And it isn't like they are hurting for revenue or are being held back in their TV deal by not being in the City of Angels.
No, we say forcing a team to move to LA would alienate a good part of their audience. And we don't think they are quite ready to jump into the expansion game....yet.
