St. Louis Likely To Play The Tortoise Role Over NFL

((HT: Fox2Now))

With all the talk of St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke buying his land in Inglewood, California and wanting to build a stadium near Hollywood Park and The Forum, the city who currently hosts the Rams doesn't seem to be in a whole lot of a hurry to talk to the Rams any more.

The city claims that they have been up front and have wanted to negotiate with the Kroenkes, but the family doesn't seem to be interested.

Here's the talk from St. Louis about their confidence of having a tenant for the Edward Jones Dome- even if it isn't the Rams long-term.

This approach has been consistent with the city's approach the whole time- patience and prudence in the face of impending financial doom at the loss of of a primary tenant of their signature building. The city still feels that they may need that new building instead of continued renovation of the "Ed."

Which might be their downfall...

Michael Sam Drafted After All By St. Louis

((HT: Fox 2 St. Louis))

Here's the phone call that made history on a lot of different levels...

The skinny on Sam was that he would go anywhere from the third to fifth round. He went into the seventh...

Which was fine... Sam, admittedly a tweener size-wise for defensive linemen and linebackers, could be an effective speed rusher for a defense that is already getting pretty stout.

It was a bit of a home town selection- which was also fine.

Here's the home town coverage from KSDK

Sam is ready to go for the Rams and the Rams seem ready to accept him and will look at him for his athletic abilities and finding a place for the SEC Defensive Player of The Year on their roster...

Is This The First Step Back For The LA Rams...???

((HT: LA Times/Farmer))

Sam Farmer has come across the news that current St. Louis Rams-everything Colorado short of the Broncos-Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has bought a 60-acre parking lot in between The Forum and Hollywood Park. Wal-Mart originally owned the parcel, and Madison Square Garden Corp. was interested but they were too late in their purchase notion.

The Rams won an arbitration case against the city of St. Louis almost a year ago over the price each side thinks that was needed to renovate the Edward Jones Dome. The city thought it would take a little over $130-million while the Kroenke family said it would be more in the neighborhood of $700-million.

Here was an interview Charles Jaco had with the head of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kitty Ratcliffe, after the judgment talking about her concerns about NOT hearing from the Rams about their thoughts- on any level-after the decision...
((HT: Fox2 St Louis))

There is an adjacent 238-acre site, according to Farmer, that is the old Hollywood Park site that is set to be a mixed-use development right now...

Right...now...

Kroenke is too smart and too private to do this without telling some Shield folks in New York City. If he wants to relocate the Rams back to LA, he's not going to do anything and step on league toes at the same time...

Here's a sample of people who were asked about the idea...like Al Michaels...

Danny Amendola Hurts An Old Guy

((HT: NFL on CBS/Awful Announcing))

AA gets the official heads-up on this one...

The Rams were trying to come back in their game with Minnesota where:

1) Adrian Peterson was running like he had a plane to catch and,
2) Blair Walsh was getting the HQ a LOT of fantasy points

But part of the game showed just how dangerous celebrations could be...
Danny Amendola scored a TD as he caught a pass from San Bradford and this happened...

Funny thing is... Amendola scored later on and tried to make amends by giving a football to the guy, but he gave it to the wrong guy since, probably, Guy Number One was getting medical attention and a new pair of glasses...

STL CVC to Rams: No thanks on your renovation play

((ht: stltoday.com))
Rams proposal/Ctsy: hks sports/stl.com

Well, that didn't take very long.

The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission at least did take a look at the Rams proposal for an overhaul of the Edward Jones Dome.

They looked at the extravagant plan that the city believes will cost in the neighborhood of $700 million and said "Uh...no thanks".

The Rams plan was a counter to the CVC's plan, which came in at a more modest $124 million estimate.

Oh...and apparently if the two sides don't agree on the renovation, it heads to an arbitrator after June 15th.

Read the St. Louis Post-Dispatch story RIGHT HERE

Folks, this one may get ugly.

The Rams are pushing hard because of a clause in their lease with the dome that states it has to be a "Top" facility in multiple categories by 2015. And no, nobody knows exactly what that means.

As much as we tend to lean optimistic on these type of deals getting done, we're a bit more skeptical here. Both sides are VERY far apart. And we get the CVC's concern over losing business while the place is closed for the work.

And since we don't live in STL, we don't know how much booking is done there during the off-season.

We also know there are multiple parties in a certain large, NFL-less city out West who are anxiously monitoring this. And they should be.

As many of you know, we've stated that any "New" or "Major" renovation to a perfectly good stadium is a waste of money. Unless you are an NFL owner trying to maximize revenue.

If they do come to an agreement on renovation, expect that the good people of St. Louis to pay a lot more money to buy tickets. We think the team will be better in the upcoming years and thusly, attendance will grow. And much like other teams around the NFL, the Rams owners will continue to price out people who can't afford tickets.

The question we have is, if they do a "Major" renovation, where does the team play while the work is being done?

And yes, if there is an "In-House" favorite franchise to be moved, this would be the one.

St. Louis Rams not-so-secret stadium proposal

((ht: ksdk.com))

Well, Saint Louis, if you want to keep your football team, the price to get in the game may have just exploded.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster released on Monday what has been termed a "Secret" proposal the St. Louis Rams are making for a new and improved Edward Jones Dome.

According to KSDK-TV, the proposal dwarfs the $125-plus million one made by the Convention and Visitors Commission.

In fact, the proposal has been given to the CVC who says the cost for what the team wants may be well north of $700 million.

The differences in what the 2 groups would like to do is pretty stark and detailed including the teams request for a semi-retractable roof over only the field. And no, there has yet to be any discussion as to whom would pay for such a thing.

Read the KSDK.com story RIGHT HERE

Alrighty then.

The game is afoot and it has a deadline of late 2013 as the Rams lease with the stadium runs out in 2014. And no, there is nothing significant wrong with the current dome. It's just that much like the other teams angling for a stadium, the team wants to make more money.

They (The Rams) at this point haven't said if or how much they are willing to pitch in for this. We're guessing probably not much.

Unfortunately, the team holds some cards here as the lease comes up and the Los Angeles football stadium looming in the rear view mirror.

We had to laugh a little bit as the KSDK story talks to someone about the "Impact" on hotels and restaurants in the area. Sorry guys, we, nor do most, buy the whole "NFL Team equals huge out-of-town visitor" argument. Most fans that come to NFL games either live in your city or close enough that they do it on a day trip.

Sure there are a few that might travel in, but not enough to make a significant impact (hear that Atlanta?).

But we suspect this will end up the way all these issues end up. The Rams will get what they ask for. The people in the Metro area will pay more for their services in the form of taxes and the team will end up staying where they are.

We could be wrong about this...and frequently are about such things....but then again, we aren't a traditional News outlet, we can offer our own thoughts and opinions.

Here's the TV Story from KSDK-TV:

St. Louis Is On The Clock

Now that the Minnesota Vikings seem to have their stadium issues resolved attention now turns to the city of St. Louis and the possibility the Rams might return to L.A.

The St. Louis Rams appear to be the leader in the clubhouse to land in Los Angeles.

The Rams and the St. Louis Convention and Visitiors Commission are at an impasse as to how to upgrade the Edward Jones Dome.

The Rams want a retractable roof which could cost in the neighborhood of 200 to 300 million dollars.  The commission proposed spending $124 million in upgrades, half from the taxpayers and half from the team.  The Rams rejected that.

If both sides remain apart then it goes to arbitration on June 15th.

The Rams can escape their lease in January 2015 and are free to leave St. Louis if the Edward Jones Dome isn't one of the top facilities in the NFL.

KTVI's Charles Jaco explains the whole situation.

Before you football fans get all giddy about the Rams returning to L.A. keep in mind its at least three more years before the Rams can leave St. Louis, legally. We also saw that when Roger Goddell puts gun to head, as he metaphorically did with the Vikings and the Minnesota State Legislature, stadium issues tend to get done.

Just thinking out loud.

Neighbors Don't Like Randy McMichael's House

((HT: KMOV-TV St Louis))

Mainly since it has fallen into foreclosure the $2.7-million home, and as a result, there hasn't been any upkeep for quite some time...

They caught up with the neighbors...

Next question...

DEVELOPING: ESPN Claims Rams To Fire Spagnuolo, Devaney ((UPDATED: THEY DID))

((HT: KSDK-TV))

Initially, everyone and their mother thought that the 49ers would take care of the Rams withought much trouble.

There was some trouble toward the end, but not enough as a Kellen Clements injury led to a Tom Brandstatter turnover and a 34-27 win for the visitors.

As a result, another 2-14 season will not sit well with owner Stan Kroenke and he is going to fire both head coach Steve Spagnuolo and GM Billy devaney. Chris Mortensen is relying on "unnamed sources."

Here's Spagnuolo talking about the season-ending loss to San Fran

MONDAY UPDATE: They're gone...

Here's the statement from Kroenke...
“I would like to personally thank Steve and Billy for their dedication to the St. Louis Rams organization over the past several seasons,” said Rams owner E. Stanley Kroenke. “This was a difficult decision for many reasons. We have tremendous respect for Steve and Billy as people and football professionals.

“No one individual is to blame for this disappointing season and we all must hold ourselves accountable. However, we believe it’s in the best interest of the St. Louis Rams to make theses changes as we continue our quest to build a team that consistently competes for playoffs and championships. We wish Steve, Billy and their families the very best in the future and thank them again for their commitment to our organization and the city of St. Louis.”

Michael Boley spikes ball off of photogs face

Ooops.

We all know football players, particularly those on defense, get excited when they score a touchdown. Often they will spike the ball or throw it off the back wall or do some sort of bizarre touchdown dance that they perceive as being cool.

Well, not last night. New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley gets the opportunity of the game, he recovers a fumble Monday night against the Rams, scoops it up and returns it for a touchdown.

And then he goes to celebrate. We think he was trying to throw it off the wall. Or at least we hope so. He missed and drills the guy standing next to a photographer shooting video. (It bounces of the photogs face).

Nobody was hurt, but it was sort of funny video.
