DEVELOPING: Jim Kelly Back To NYC For Cancer Treatments

((HT: WGRZ-TV))

Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Jim Kelly is heading back to a New York City hospital for a Thursday operation as it seems his cancer has no only recurred, but apparently, spread...

Fellow Class of '83'er John Elway was asked about Kelly at the NFL Owners Meetings in Orlando today. The Buffalo News Tim Graham caught up with Elway in the scrums...

"It's sad to me to hear what's taken place since two weeks ago. From what I understand it's not a good report."

Elway, Kelly, and Joe Montana were all in Vail, Colorado for a speaking engagement. Elway saw that Kelly's jaw was not doing well after the restructure surgery from June...

“Unfortunately, it has been determined that his cancer has returned,” ECMC’s Dr. Thom Loree said in a statement released by the hospital ten days ago when the initial diagnosis was given to the media. “Our team of head and neck cancer specialists is determining a course of treatment that will allow Mr. Kelly to battle this cancer successfully. Mr. Kelly has asked that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Kelly was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma a year ago and last June doctors had to remove part of Kelly’s upper jaw, part of the roof of his mouth and teeth before the restructuring of his jaw. Lorre performed the initial surgery.

Here's his coach Marv Levy discussing his QB's cancer when it was first announced Kelly was heading back into hospital...
Kelly has no idea how he got the cancer since he never smoked. He called it "luck of the draw...I guess."

Obviously, we'll keep you posted on all of this...

Reds Chapman Needs Plate Inserted After Comebacker

((HT: ESPN))

Let's face it...

When you're a pitcher, you know going in that you're taking life into your own hands...

And the faster you throw, the faster it comes back through the originator...

Last night, Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was pitching against the Royals and Salvador Perez met the 99-miles per hour fast ball head on. It went back the way it came and scared the daylights out of a lot of people...

Here's the edited version of the comebacker last night...

He is undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone above his left eye and was, luckily, only diagnosed with a concussion. Team doctor Timothy Kremchek called Chapman "a very lucky guy."

Kremchek said a metal plate will be inserted in the bone and will remain there permanently. Chapman's left eye also has no permanent damage.

Peverley Procedure Successful: Now What...???

((HT: ESPN))

Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley had another heart procedure to correct his abnormal rhythm at the Cleveland Clinic. It was regarded as a success, but the question for Peverley is what is next...

If anything...
ESPNDallas's Richard Durrell discusses with Jim Basquil...

Stars GM Jim Nill released a statement:

“Rich Peverley underwent successful surgery to correct an abnormal heart rhythm at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, March 18. He is currently in normal sinus rhythm. He was released from the Cleveland Clinic today and is expected to return to Dallas tomorrow. He will be monitored closely and may require further treatment. There is no decision being made at this time on his ability to return to hockey participation.”

The HQ covered Peverley in his time in Atlanta and always remember him as a good dude...

But, sadly, we think it may be time to hang it up- and think about the rest of his life after hockey...
