Crazy Hockey Fight: Wild's Stu Bickel Gets 37 Minutes for Fight

PLEASE VISIT OUR NEW WEBSITE: onlinesportsguys.com

Down 5-0 midway through the 2nd period, the Minnesota Wild were looking for anything to wake them up. Anything.

And the whole thing got triggered by Wild forward Ryan Carter who ended up not being a big part of the end result. Carter shoved Dallas defenseman Trevor Dailey into Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen. And the Pier 6er was on.

Wild enforcer Stu Bickel immediately jumped in and ended up throwing down on not one, but two Stars players. They eventually ended up on the ice while Bickel kept swinging.

The result was a long trip to the penalty box. A game misconduct for an aggressor penalty, an instigator minor penalty, a 5 minute major penalty for fighting and another 10-minute misconduct call got Bickel 37 minutes worth of penalties in one game.

Zoinks!

Family Tries to Shield Kid From Hockey Fight in Front of them

((ht: foxsports.com))

Look away!

We all know that fights break out in Hockey Games. It's part of the sports history and lore. And despite calls for it to stop, it's not likely it ever will.

During Tuesday night's Arizona Coyotes vs. Dallas Stars game, a fight broke out between Kyle Chipchura of the Coyotes and Brenden Dillon of the Stars.

And as the two dose-do'd around the ice, they ended up right in front of a startled family there with their young daughter.

Both parents immediately reached over and covered her eyes as the refs skated in to break up the skirmish.

It happened at about :26 into the video and yeah, it's kind of funny.

For what it's worth, Dallas would go on to win the game, 4-3.

Seriously? Tyler Seguin Allows Fan to hit Golf Ball of His Crotch

((ht: cbssports.com))

He did what!

We're guessing the Dallas Stars and anyone related to star sniper Tyler Seguin grimaced when he posted video today of a fan hitting a golf ball off a tee on his...um...nether regions.

He did the deed during the "Fourth Period" Charity Golf Tournament in Ontario, Canada and amazingly did not appear to be injured during the shot saying "It tickled"...

Um...gee Tyler, thanks for sharing...

What's With All The Unanswered Goals...???

((HT: NHL/NBCSN))

The HQ thought that when the Pittsburgh Penguins had the 3-goal FIRST PERIOD lead on the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide, that it was over and done...

Yeah, so much for that idea...

CBJ scored once in the first, once in the second, and Brandon Dubinsky scored with less than a minute to go in regulation to send the game into overtime...

We all know what happens with momentum by that point...
Ask Nick Foligno...

That series is now tied at two and the Penguins fans are gripping over another post-season performance by goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

The other two series that went last night are also tied at two games a piece...

Anaheim had a two-goal lead in Dallas in Dallas, but that didn't last, either...
The Stars scored four in a row and the series between the Ducks and Stars has gotten all serious. There was a a lot of "quien es mas macho" in the last few minutes between the two sides. Play-by-play man Gord Miller had the line describing how the series has gotten all in each other's grills, saying that the two have evolved into hatred...

He's not wrong...

The late game (and "who knew?" right...???) would end up being the Blackhawks and Blues...

It would end shortly before 1AM east coast time, but overtime will do that for you...
Patrick Kane would help us all get to bed earlier than we thought in the third series tied at 2...

Tonight, the Sharks try to knock off the Kings once and for all...
Much to the dismay of the HQ...

Stanley Cup Playoffs: What Is This About Taking People Out Below The Waist...???

((HT: NHL on NBC/Some Hockey Videos/TSN))

One was sad and the other was sad...

If you get where the HQ is going...

First is the one that drew people's ire...

Colorado and Minnesota series... and it was all around Matt Cooke again...

Tyson Barrie left the game against the Wild after a knee-on-knee hit from Matt Cooke and will miss four to six weeks with a medial collateral ligament injury. Cooke received a two-minute minor for kneeing, but has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL department of player safety.

The HQ knows where that is going and a lot of people are calling for Cooke's head...

The other was just flat out disappointing...

Stars and Ducks...

Stephane Robidas was part of the fabric of the Stars for a long time. But he was traded to the Ducks at the deadline. This series has, admittedly, been tough on him facing his old mates. The first game back in Dallas had an injury that was eerily similar to the one that got him on the shelf the last time back in November...

Ryan Garbutt's going for the puck was not intentionally causing the re-break, but it still is disappointing...
Trevor Daley feels for his old teammate...

Pop-Up Video: Canes Get A Goal Off Goalie's Back

((HT: FS South/NHL))

Nothing like water off a duck's back, but what about rubber off a goalie's back...???

Happened last night for the Carolina Hurricanes in their 4-1 win over Dallas...

Eric Staal got credit for it... and it made the west wild card interesting...

Phoenix and Dallas are now tied with 85 points with five games left in the regular season...
Carolina is six points out with five games left...

Not What Caps Fans Want Right Now... Ovi8 Quitting On A Play

((HT: Sportsnet))

All the HQ can really say is watch 8-Red during this play that went from a 3-0 Dallas lead to a 4-0 Dallas lead in the game last night...
Caps head coach Adam Oates made an example of his star: “Ovie quit on the play coming back,” Oates said Wednesday. “Just goes to show you you’ve got to hustle the entire time. The whole entire time.” And that's what you see in one of the game's elite scorers who is also carrying a huge minus on the plus-minus scale... With six games left in the regular season, the Caps are two points out of the second wild card spot. They're not just two points out of the normal 8th spot. They're two points out of the last wild card spot... Now, that the NHL let's nine teams in, you don't have to have as much success and still get in to the playoffs. And the Caps aren't even doing that well... Here's the postgame reaction from Ovie after the 5-0 loss... ((HT: CSNWashington))

Peverley Procedure Successful: Now What...???

((HT: ESPN))

Dallas Stars forward Rich Peverley had another heart procedure to correct his abnormal rhythm at the Cleveland Clinic. It was regarded as a success, but the question for Peverley is what is next...

If anything...
ESPNDallas's Richard Durrell discusses with Jim Basquil...

Stars GM Jim Nill released a statement:

“Rich Peverley underwent successful surgery to correct an abnormal heart rhythm at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, March 18. He is currently in normal sinus rhythm. He was released from the Cleveland Clinic today and is expected to return to Dallas tomorrow. He will be monitored closely and may require further treatment. There is no decision being made at this time on his ability to return to hockey participation.”

The HQ covered Peverley in his time in Atlanta and always remember him as a good dude...

But, sadly, we think it may be time to hang it up- and think about the rest of his life after hockey...

Peverley to Have Procedure for Atrial Fibrillation

Dallas Stars forward Rich Perverley will sit out the rest of this hockey season while doctors try a procedure to help fix his heart abnormality.

Perverley and his coach Lindy Ruff spoke at a press conference Wednesday afternoon where the disclosed Peverley has an "Atrial Fibrillation" issue with his heart.

The procedure which doctors hope will return his heart to a normal rhythm had been planned for the offseason. Peverley had been diagnosed with the issue at a preseason physical and gave him the okay to play. They believe he had the issue last year in the playoffs and he's played 62 games this NHL season while on medication to regulate his heart beat.

You'll recall Peverley passed out Monday trying to get off the teams bench and onto the ice for a game. He was immediately rushed off the ice and tended to by medical personnel, the quickness of that treatment doctors say, may have saved his life.

The surgical procedure is planned in the next couple of weeks in Cleveland and while recovery time is usually a couple of months, doctors are not sure if Peverley will be able to play professional hockey again.

DEVELOPING: Stars' Peverley Collapses On Bench, Game Postponed (UPDATED)

((HT: FS Southwest/NHL))

Dallas Stars C/RW Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench early in tonight's game at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets...

Back in September, Peverley had a procedure administering to an irregular heartbeat that caused him to miss most of the preseason.

From Mark Stepneski and the Dallas Stars in September:

We sent him to a specialist and it ended up he had an A-fib condition (atrial fibrillation), which is where the heart gets out of rhythm,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “He had a procedure done. He’s going to be out for three weeks and should be available close to the start of the season, might miss one or two games.”

Nill said it was his understanding that procedure involved shocking the heart to get it back in rhythm. Peverley will be able to skate for the next weeks, but no contact.

“Our medical staff did a great job, they recognized this,” Nill said. “That’s why they do the medical procedures, they picked it up on the EKG and he’ll be fine.“

The issues came back and forced Peverley to miss a game last week...

Here's the action from the bench at the time...

2120 UPDATE: The game was postponed after a discussion with the teams and the league, but the HQ gives a tip of the hat to the Stars medical staff for responding the way they did...

According to Stars medical staff, Peverley was defibrillated successfully and wanted to go back into the game...

Stars Get Gagliardi As New Owner, Probably...

The Dallas Stars have signed an agreement to sell the team to Vancouver businessman Tom Gaglardi and have filed a prepackaged bankruptcy plan to help facilitate the transaction.

The Stars said Thursday that the deal is subject to a court-approved auction and NHL approval. The other team once owned by Tom Hicks, the Texas Rangers, pulled the same track to expedite the sale of the baseball team when Hicks declared the same financial fate with them...

"Today's filing culminates months of cooperative effort by the League, the Club, the Club's lenders and Dallas Arena LLC," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "It represents an extremely positive step toward what we expect will be an orderly transition to new ownership for the Dallas Stars."

Gagliardi has tried to get the Stars before, but it hasn't worked out until now. He's a co-owner of the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League and is big in the hotel and restaurant industry in Canada.

A court hearing is scheduled for Monday, when the Stars are expected to present customary motions for court approval.

George Riba of WFAA-TV says his sources are calling the Gagliardi bid a "stalking horse bid."

From Riba...

That means any individual who wishes to get involved in the bidding must up Gaglardi's bid for the team by at least $10 million. The source said Gaglardi's agreement would allow him to buy the team for around $230 million from the Hicks Sports Group, which defaulted on loans in 2009.

More when we know more...
