Not that Southern Cal football needed any more fuel in the papers this week, but running back Anthony Brown has quit the program characterizing head coach Steve Sarkisian as "racist."
Brown Tweeted the opinion on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter before removing it:
"Sark treated me like a slave in his Office...Can't play for a racist MAN!!!!! #Fighton"
FOSG Chris Cotter explains with Brian Griese and Mark May what this all may or may not mean
Sark was less than pleased and gave very little credence to it in his press conference Thursday:
"As far as what [Brown] said on Twitter, I think it's ridiculous," Sarkisian told the Orange County Register. "Any of you guys that know me and if you ask anybody in our building, any of our players -- feel free to -- that's about the furthest thing from the truth. Quite honestly, I'm shocked."
"I had encouraged him to play. I thought he could play. I didn't want him to quit."
Not the kind of pee-ahr you need before your season opener... and a host of (now) former teammates disagreed with Brown's characterization of the nead coach.

OSG Prem: Pulis Quits Crystal Palace
((HT: Sky Sports))
Two days before the season starts...
It's either one of two things- a selfish move by a manager or the be all-end all in frustration over a squad that hasn't spent any money in the off-season to improve their lot.
The background...
Tony Pulis took over for Ian Holloway in November last season as Palace was in the heart of the relegation battle in the Premier League. He constructed a style of play and a mindset to get everything turned around and had the Eagles finish 11th in the table.
Only two sides know the real reason for his abrupt and shocking departure- Pulis and ownership.
But Palace has gone from receivership to manageable budgets- just not spending any money on importing talent in the process.
One can look at this two ways- considering what Pulis did with what he was given, the front office felt they didn't need to spend. But Pulis, in turn, would present the notion that there is no improvement without spending.
The folks at Sports Tonight discuss the season- presumably before the Pulis walk...
So, was Pulis foolish or did he know what was about to happen and didn't like where it was heading.

Not What Caps Fans Want Right Now... Ovi8 Quitting On A Play
((HT: Sportsnet))
All the HQ can really say is watch 8-Red during this play that went from a 3-0 Dallas lead to a 4-0 Dallas lead in the game last night...
Caps head coach Adam Oates made an example of his star: “Ovie quit on the play coming back,” Oates said Wednesday. “Just goes to show you you’ve got to hustle the entire time. The whole entire time.” And that's what you see in one of the game's elite scorers who is also carrying a huge minus on the plus-minus scale... With six games left in the regular season, the Caps are two points out of the second wild card spot. They're not just two points out of the normal 8th spot. They're two points out of the last wild card spot... Now, that the NHL let's nine teams in, you don't have to have as much success and still get in to the playoffs. And the Caps aren't even doing that well... Here's the postgame reaction from Ovie after the 5-0 loss... ((HT: CSNWashington))
"Too many mistakes..."
Correct...

OSG Prem: I Quit, No, You're Fired...
((HT: SkySports))
Nicolas Anelka, it cannot be debated, that when he's on... he's on...
A tremendous scorer who can also be a tremendous headache...
Evidenced by his short-lived time at West Brom... after a move on a scored goal in late December, his time was even shorter-lived...
BBC Newsnight caught up with David Baddiel about the "quenelle" salute Anelka gave...
And, then, caught up with Dieudonne himself back in February...
West Brom gave conditions for his reinstatement- which were later revealed to be an apology to everyone and accept a fine.
Anelka then took to his Twitter account to announce he was leaving and terminating his contract on his own "with immediate effect."
The club, then, decided it wasn't Anelka's move to make and sacked him...
Their statement:
"Nicolas Anelka's purported termination of his Premier League contract this evening via Social Media was invalid as this was not conducted under the correct legal process as required by his contract.
"The club considers the conduct of Nicolas Anelka on December 28, coupled with his purported termination on Social Media this evening, to be gross misconduct.
"As a result the club has tonight written to Nicolas Anelka giving him 14 days' notice of termination as required under his contract."
West Brom, as a footnote, picked up a major three points in a win at Swansea to get a little further away from relegation...
