Taysom Hill Fractures Leg Vs. Utah State

((HT: ESPN))

BYU was supposed to be one of those possible gate crashers to the college football playoffs party, but the injury to all-world QB Taysom Hill might have just crashed that idea for this year.

In tonight's game against Utah State, he was dragged down and it wasn't pretty...

Here's the injury

After initially being told the injury was to an ankle, the school confirmed it was a fracture.
Christian Stewart is now in charge for the foreseeable future...

Paul George's Injury Is Not Pretty (UPDATED)

((HT: ESPN/USA Basketball))

It's very serious and just reminds us of the Joe Theismann injury...

It's difficult to see in real time, but if you think your stomach can take it in slower speed- it's about a minute after the incident happens in real time...

Coach K stopped the scrimmage after the injury out of respect- a wise move...

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo was asked about the injury after the game was called:

"This is a tough blow, not only for USA basketball but for the Indiana Pacers," he said. "And so as an organization we're just going to let a little time go by here before we address rosters ... it seems so unimportant in scheme of things. When you have something like this, it puts things in perspective."

Colangelo is right. It's a tough blow for the Pacers- bordering catastrophic for the upcoming season...

More when we know more...

PM UPDATE: ESPN's Brian Windhorst is making a good point about the stanchion under the left (as the TV camera shows it) basket and how it appears closer to the court than in a normal NBA contest.

The picture on his Twitter account makes a good argument.

Stanley Cup Playoffs: What Is This About Taking People Out Below The Waist...???

((HT: NHL on NBC/Some Hockey Videos/TSN))

One was sad and the other was sad...

If you get where the HQ is going...

First is the one that drew people's ire...

Colorado and Minnesota series... and it was all around Matt Cooke again...

Tyson Barrie left the game against the Wild after a knee-on-knee hit from Matt Cooke and will miss four to six weeks with a medial collateral ligament injury. Cooke received a two-minute minor for kneeing, but has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL department of player safety.

The HQ knows where that is going and a lot of people are calling for Cooke's head...

The other was just flat out disappointing...

Stars and Ducks...

Stephane Robidas was part of the fabric of the Stars for a long time. But he was traded to the Ducks at the deadline. This series has, admittedly, been tough on him facing his old mates. The first game back in Dallas had an injury that was eerily similar to the one that got him on the shelf the last time back in November...

Ryan Garbutt's going for the puck was not intentionally causing the re-break, but it still is disappointing...
Trevor Daley feels for his old teammate...

Interesting Night For Angels: Game-Winner Plus A Nasty Injury

((HT: ESPN/MLB/AP))

Any LA Angels fan can tell you that the signing of Mike Trout to the contract the team did was a steal...

Opening night was a celebration as Trout got the game-winning hit (not a "walk-off" since there was no walking involved), and Vlad Guerrero signed a one-game contract to retire as an Angel...

But the ceremony was the most shocking part of the evening where it was supposed to be a celebration- and it went wrong.

Baylor broke his leg- which, understandably, is brittle because of his fight with bone marrow cancer. Baylor has been a big, public presence in and around those fighting the battle along with him...

And we only hope that one of the best hitters in the game will be back at it soon...

Ronda Rousey's Team Cringes At Silva Injury

((HT: Live Audio Wrestling))

The folks over at LAW gave us the heads-up on this one...

We all know how painful it was to see Anderson Silva's injury in the Weidman fight over the weekend...

Here's the Rousey camp's reaction when they saw it...

Chris Weidman Hangs on to UFC Middleweight Title After Beating Silva Again (Wanna See...???)

The match was billed as a revenge match and was hyped as much as any UFC match in recent history.

And it ended with a broken leg.

Chris Weidman, a surprise middleweight title holder after beating UFC legend Anderson Silva early this past summer, defended that title in Las Vegas Saturday night as the headline match in UFC 168.

The match ended just over a minute into round 2, when Silva went to the mat writhing in pain after blocking a leg kick by Weidman. It was later determined that Silva's shin had cracked from the block.

The win moves him to 11-0 in his career, which appears to be bright as Weidman is still somewhat of a newcomer in UFC circles. As for Silva, he's now 38-years old and for the 1st time in his legendary career, has lost two straight matches.

Stamkos Out Indefinitely After Leg Break

((HT: NHL))

And his status with Team Canada for the Sochi games in February is in serious question...

Here's what happened to create a tibia fracture and have the NHL star out for a while...

"At this point Steven will be out indefinitely," Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said in a statement. "The medical staff in Boston, in consultation with our team physicians, has made the decision to surgically repair the injury. The procedure is expected to take place tomorrow morning. The biggest concern for me, and the rest of the Lightning, is that decisions are made in Steven's best long-term interest, and we feel this is the appropriate course of action."

Here's local coverage from our friends at ABC Action News...
