ICYMI: Ndamukong Suh Wins Appeal Will Play Sunday

Detroit Lions walking fine Ndamukong Suh somehow got his one game suspension for stepping on Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers overturned Tuesday evening.

Suh had appealed the suspension, which would have kept him out of the Lions wild-card game vs. Dallas. In his appeal he claimed his feet were "Numb from the Cold" and he couldn't tell if he was on the frozen turf in Green Bay or not. In lieu of the suspension, he will pay a $70,000 fine.

Uh...yeah.

Suh has a history of after the fact silly things like this. Yes, he made it through the 2014 season without incident but he's been fined and/or suspended several times for offenses similar to this one.

The move will help the Lions as they face the powerful Cowboys offense led by the NFL's leading rusher, DeMarco Murray on Sunday.

Pop-Up Video: Canes Get A Goal Off Goalie's Back

((HT: FS South/NHL))

Nothing like water off a duck's back, but what about rubber off a goalie's back...???

Happened last night for the Carolina Hurricanes in their 4-1 win over Dallas...

Eric Staal got credit for it... and it made the west wild card interesting...

Phoenix and Dallas are now tied with 85 points with five games left in the regular season...
Carolina is six points out with five games left...

Looks Like All This NFL Effort Goes To Screw

((HT: NFL on FOX))

First, and foremost, how did this NOT get blocked...???

But early word is that the NFL is adding another wild card, so all of this activity may be moot...

The Green Bay folks discuss losing again...

ICYMI: Wild Wild Card Games Trim Field By 2

((HT: NFL on NBC))

Two games, three points separating teams from advancing to the next round... and it was two games that came at you from two different directions...

The early game was one that the HQ thought was absolutely done when the Indianapolis Colts were down 28. But, as we were shown, Andrew Luck can add another comeback to his stacks of feats and Chuck Pagano can call a 45-44 comeback one of his best coaching jobs around...

It's only the second time in playoff history a team rallied from a deficit of 28 or more points for the win. Buffalo trailed by 32 (35-3) before beating the Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime in January 1993 (the Frank Reich-led comeback for those of you who can't remember that far back).

Luck's first career playoff victory sends Indianapolis to play either Denver or New England next weekend...

Here's Eric Allen breaking it down...
((HT: ESPN))

The nightcap was a test for Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints since they haven't won a road playoff game in his tenure (0-3 versus 4-0 at home) and, after a first half where they were kept in check by Philadelphia's defense, they found their rhythm in the second half.

It took a last-second Shayne Graham field goal for the 26-24 win and a trip to Seattle...

And that's why the Saints picked him up after letting Garrett Hartley go...

Raise The Jolly Roger: But We Missed A Lot...And Mat Latos' Wife Says She Got Attacked...

((HT: MLB.com))

Did you see this last night on the broadcast of the Pirates-Reds game...???

But, it was Andrew McCutchen's mom...???
Surely, it was worth television time...

How about Doug Drabek's first pitch strike...???
Nope...??? The video doesn't exist...

How about this...???
A fan jumping off the Clemente bridge after the win...???
((HT: Dafranchize412))

It HAS made the rounds and the cops are investigating. A guy by the name of Dean Pasztor jumped into the water and made it to shore. He is from Ohio, and posted on his Twitter page that he “doesn’t care if people know he jumped off the bridge to celebrate a Buccos win.”

But a lot of the pomp and circumstance was relegated to what Craig Sager did at the statue and tossing to taped pieces- not living in the moment inside the building where 7,660 days of pent up frustration were exorcised in the Wild Card win over Cincinnati.

Evidence here... in part...

PM UPDATE: The wife of Reds pitcher, Mat Latos, Dallas says she got attacked last night at PNC Park...

In a series of Tweets, here's what she says happened...

Got punched in the head at least 3 times by a pirates fan so this has been cool

Pittsburgh police can’t arrest anyone on assault accounts so I’m the one who spent the game talking to law enforcement after being attacked.

Look. Check the police report. I was ambushed in the Budweiser bar, grabbed by the hair, drug down & punched in the head multiple times.

Every opportunity was given to pirates security to deal with this before it happened. Unbelievable.

Thanks to the pirates fan who saw it happen & apologized. Not condemning you as a group at all. That was simply wild.

According to police this morning at a press conference, Latos was asked if she wanted medical treatment and she declined. All PNC Park policies were followed, and unless the Reds and Latos decide to pursue the issue, the matter is closed.

Another pinch-hit homer...another game-winning pinch-hit homer...

And the Indians are still in the American League Wild Card hunt...

Braves Lose On "Short Left Field Fly Rule" Vs. Cards (Among Other Things)

((HT: MLB on TBS))

The HQ figures that Brother Phil will wax a little more poetic on the rather ignominious (my, what a big word that means "ugly") end of the Atlanta Braves season (on a few different levels) last night against the St. Louis Cardinals...

But, we'll hit the high points...

1) Larry Wayne Jones, Junior admitted in his last post-game press conference that his throwing error on a double play ball into right field was responsible for the loss more than anything else...

2) You knew that, sooner or later, the ridiculous streak that starter Kris Medlin had would come to an end- at the worst time possible...

3) But, more than anything, the evidence below is what will stick with folks for quite some time... flying projectiles included on what one writer called the "short left field fly rule."

Executive VP for MLB, Joe Torre, said that he turned down the Braves protest because of the idea that the umpires made the call on the field and all agreed on it.

No matter how completely bogus it was... and that's the conventional wisdom on why Fredi Gonzalez didn't get tossed when he came out for his rant of the ages...
