That didn't take long...
The same day that Jim Rutherford was hired as the new General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dan Bylsma was fired as head coach. It was an odd set from the end of the season when the Pens ownership group decided to fire GM Ray Shero and not Bylsma when the team was bounced from the playoffs prematurely by the Montreal Canadiens.
Three weeks ago...
Here's the talk at the time with TSN's Bob McKenzie

So, Bylsma got to twist in the wind and not have the opportunity to look for other work...
Nice work, y'all...
More when we know more, but it now looks like Bylsma becomes the front runner for the Florida Panthers job.

Is Texas Longhorn Strong...???
So, after Baylor head coach Art Briles tweeted his disinterest in the Texas job and UCLA head coach Jim Mora said he was staying in Westwood, it came down to Louisville's Charlie Strong to be the new head coach for the Longhorns...
The reported salary figure is 5 years at $25-million...
Strong's record at Louisville was 37-15 and he is set to accept the position if asked...
Strong, apparently, still wanted to speak with Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich and his university president first.
“He will be the coach,” a well-place source told Kirk Bohls and Brian Davis at the Austin American-Statesman.
Strong seemed to have survived a four-hour interview with AD Steve Patterson...

10 Year-Olds Want Tressel To Coach Browns
((HT: Mike Yearling))
The HQ is just going to let this video stand on its own since...
Well, this is one way to get around that show cause penalty in the NCAA...
Having Jim Tressel as the Browns new head coach...
And, if the Browns don't act fast enough, he might be the only one left on the table...
There's that...

Silly Season: Ryan Newman To RCR To Replace Burton
((HT: NASCAR and Jenna Fryer))
Ryan Newman has found a home for 2014...
His "he can't stay at Stewart-Haas because they aren't going to have a 4th car in 2014 until Kurt Busch came along to be the 4th car" now moves him to Richard Childress Racing to drive the #31 Caterpillar car that will be driven by Jeff Burton until the end of the year...
Luke Lambert will remain with the team as crew chief, and Caterpillar was the only sponsor announced for 2014. Burton said he was leaving RCR at the end of the season because he didn't think a proper team could be run with just Caterpillar as the sponsor now lends itself to the idea that Newman is bringing others with him to fund the 31.
"This is a great opportunity for our team," RCR owner Richard Childress said. "I am very proud to have Ryan in our No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet starting next year. We have high expectations for this No. 31 team. Ryan has proven himself to be a great driver, and I'm looking forward to winning races with him."
Newman said that he first talked to Childress about a potential deal five years ago, but now they're doing their thing...

Stewart Haas Adds Kurt Busch
In a great scoop and score for Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart has added Kurt Busch from Furniture Row Racing for the 2014 season...
SHR offered a little over a week ago, Furniture Row counter offered and Busch went to SHR...
He now joins Stewart, Harvick, and Danica...
But didn't the HQ think he heard SHR say that there wasn't going to be a 4th team when he let go of Ryan Newman in the first place...???
So much for that...
"It was always our intention to extend Kurt's contract," FRR general manager Joe Garone said in a statement. "We made him an offer last week to continue as the driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet in 2014 and beyond. Though he did not accept our offer we respect his decision and wish him future success. His driving skill and being a dedicated team player will always be appreciated. Right now, the main focus for Kurt and the team is to qualify for the Chase and contend for the 2013 Sprint Cup Series championship."
Busch is on the cusp of taking a western, one car team to the Chase... something a lot of people didn't think was going to happen...
Ever... but he has proven if he can keep his thoughts to himself, he can drive any car as well as anyone...
Busch's temper got him booted from Penske after the 2011 season which caused him to ride for FRR...
Stuff like this from Homestead got him in trouble, and it's very NSFW...
