The Jean Beliveau Tribute Was As Classy As You'd Expect

((HT: Some Hockey Videos/RDS/NHL))

The sell-out streak was over at the Molson Centre last night when the Montreal Canadiens took the ice.

And it was over on purpose...

The team left one seat empty- Jean Beliveau's

There was a 45-minute tribute for the hockey legend that included his widow, Elise...

And it was as classy and elegant as you would think it would be...

Tim Thompson's Tribute To Jean Beliveau

((HT: Tim Thompson his own self))

For those of you unaware, Tim Thompson is the video conscience of TV hockey presentation in Canada.

He cut the "Hockey Night in Canada" intros and has now transitioned to the new contract...

Here's his ode to the Montreal Canadiens' Jean Beliveau

And, to be honest, if this doesn't touch you... you're a soulless human being...

Okay, They Did It Again With These Jeter Tributes...

((HT: Gatorade))

Yeah, the HQ will stipulate that we are (nor will we ever be) a Yankees fan...

But with Derek Jeter's career coming to an end, the tribute videos are pretty cool.

First, it was the RE2PECT ad from Nike. Now, it's this one from the Gatorade folks...

Like we said...

Cool...

Tony Gwynn Honored In San Diego

((HT: MLB.com))

It was the first home game for the San Diego Padres after the death of their Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn- and the tribute was fitting for Number 19.

But, what may have been missed in all of this was the Dick Enberg tribute that happened from Seattle the night of his passing as part of the Major League Baseball remembrance

Anni Slayd Rocks The Five-Ringed Circus

((HT: Annakin Slayd))

Slayd has done a lot of fantastic work from Canada- which is very nationalistic at times...

He's a fan of everything Montreal- Habs, les Expos... and has done that to song at key times of the city's sports history...

With everything going on overseas, he's broken out a lot of Vancouver footage and has knocked it out of the park...

Not that that is a surprise or anything..
Enjoy it before it gets pulled...

And the HQ hopes that he gets his songs looped with Tim Thompson for CBC's closing montage...

The only issue we have is the whole "Team USA Hockey losing" thing, but we have to live with the overtime loss down here...

Carry on...

This Is What Made Boston Cry Last Night...

((HT: Basketball Insiders/CSNNE))

A lot of people wondered why the return of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett meant so much to the people of Boston...

He didn't leave on his own...he helped bring a title to a team that he had been with in lean years...

And, in Adrian Wojnarowski's piece on Yahoo!Sports, we find out that he treated everyone equally in the Celtics organization:

He fought for the lowest of assistants and basketball staff to get playoff bonuses, and he used to give the team's traveling party $1,000 each to spend on the annual trip to the Nike employee store outside of Portland. Inside and outside the organization, Pierce was generous with commitments of time and resources, relentlessly championing children's causes and charities.

And Garnett wanted to know everything about every aspect of Celtics history...

The fact that the Brooklyn won 85-79 was lost on everyone for a Celtics team that was 15-30 going in...

The recap after the fact was a reinforcement of what the two meant...
