Irish Suspend WR Mahone Indefinitely For Threatening To Kill Cops (And Other Stuff)

((HT: WSBT-TV))

And the charges are a big list- five in total, and some of them felonies...

Will Mahone, over the weekend, was booked in his home town in Ohio for disorderly conduct, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, intimidation of a public servant and vandalism of a government entity. Three of those charges are felonies.

The police report can be found hyah, thanks to our friends at WNDU-TV in South Bend...

Austintown, Ohio police say they arrived at the scene of a party where witnesses told them Mahone was head butting and punching cars. Officers approached Mahone, who was pretty drunk apparently, and tried to get him to calm down.

He then would f-bomb the cops and allegedly threatened to kill the cops once they handcuffed him.

Here's the story from South Bend
video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player Notre Dame came out with their own statement: "The University is aware of this incident and is confident that it will be handled in a prompt and professional manner through the criminal justice system. Internal discipline is handled privately, in accord with our own policies and federal law."
And the HQ thinks that Mahone is quite done- regardless of the result of the charges and any court appearance.

OSG High CONTINUING: Marion County Preps For Playoffs

((HT: WRCB-TV))

Believe it or not, Marion County (TN) still has football coaches left for their playoff game against Trousdale County in 2-A Friday night...

Four (now) former coaches will not be around (or even be allowed to be around) and the team is trying to focus on what is coming up and not all the funky business going on around them...

Paul Shahen actually got people to talk...

OSG High: Marion County FB Is Out Of Control...

((HT: Chattanooga Free Press/WRCB-TV))

The number of Marion County (TN) football coaches off the job is now at four... including head coach Mac McCurry...

Our original coverage of the weirdness starts hyah...

Now, two assistants have been let go and McCurry resigned- even as McCurry hasn't been brought up on charges...

Here's the latest update...
WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather

Assistant Joe Dan Gudger is now up on identical charges as former Marion County assistant Michael Schmitt- vandalism of $1,000-$10,000. Volunteer assistant Tim Starkey was also relieved of duty...

It gets better... or worse... depending on how you're looking at it...

The Chattanooga News Stephen Hargis has mandatory reading on the complete degradation of the story and the Marion County program...

Evidence is out in text messages that alludes to coaches stealing playbooks of neighboring programs and paying a former player to come back to practice with the team- and the player was from a rival school to prepare Marion for THAT school's offense...

From Hargis:

Starkey alludes to Schmitt, who lives in Dunlap, having also taken playbooks from Sequatchie County, before the Indians' game against Marion County on Sept. 27. According to Sequatchie County Principal Tommy Layne, after checking with head coach Ken Colquette, the football team is missing two playbooks from its fieldhouse. Marion rallied in the second half to score the last four touchdowns in that game to beat Sequatchie County 52-28.

"If you have no better morals than this, you don't need to be around kids in any way," said Layne, who also is a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Board of Control. "I'm just in shock at all of this. I've never, in all my years as an educator and coach, heard of anything as bad as this. It just makes you sick. You feel bad for the kids at Marion for having men like this as their role models."

The TSSAA, the state governing body for high school athletics, is even set to discuss the idea of giving the death penalty to Marion County's football program. They are waiting, however, for the criminal proceedings to get sorted out...

This is not the first time McCurry has been relieved of duty for questionable behavior...

In May 2010, he was let go by a school for 2 alleged DUI and a domestic assault charge...

Here's what one message board alluded to with McCurry's coaching wake:

Moore County- shambles
Marshall County- wrecked
Ripley Miss- Destroyed
Lakeview HS- Left after one game.Bailed on the kids
Signal Mnt- Recruiting scandal...1 year

One larger question the HQ has is the idea of a "show cause" penalty and whether it exists with high school coaches who have had nothing but trouble at every stop...

Seems like the coaches in and around the Marion County program may be the prime examples for this idea of it doesn't currently exist...

OSG High: HS Coach Arrested For Self-Vandalism

((HT: WRCB-TV))

The HQ is hip-deep in high school football playoffs here in the southeast...

It's important and, to a lot of towns, it's the life blood of the season and the calendar year...

Motivation takes many forms, but in one case, it might have gone over the ledge and into the extreme...

In suburban Chattanooga, Marion County played South Pittsburg back on November 1st- both smaller school powers in Tennessee high school football. Marion assistant coach Michael Schmitt was arrested for vandalizing his own school in his rival's thoughts and colors as what looks like a motivational ploy to get his own team fired up for that game...

Yes, he did do that...allegedly...
WRCBtv.com | Chattanooga News, Weather

Schmitt is on administrative leave and was released on bond pending the resolution of the charges...the court date is set for two months from now...

Here's coverage from WDEF-TV as well...

NFL Puts Joe Flacco Poster on Broncos Stadium, Sports Anchor Goes Vandal...

From Twitter
Uh....who thought this was a good idea?

As most of you insane NFL folks know, kickoff is but nearly a week away. And the hype, if it hasn't already begun, is about to kick in full-throttle.

With that in mind, we give you the marquee to your right, featuring last years Super Bowl MVP, Joe Flacco of the champs, the Baltimore Ravens.

Problem with that: The game is in Denver. Against the Broncos, the team Flacco's Ravens beat to get to the Super Bowl.

Now normally, or at least over the past couple seasons, the NFL is having their defending champs kick off the season with the celebratory 1st game at home. However, the NFL didn't figure in that in Baltimore, the Orioles (baseball team) already had a game scheduled for the same night. And for those of you who've never been to Baltimore, the two stadiums, they are next to each other.

The NFL asked the Orioles to reschedule and much to the dismay of several NFL writers, the baseball team said no. The NFL was late to the party, they should reschedule.

So the game is in Denver Thursday night. Our guess is the Broncos, or at least their fans, probably won't take too kindly to that.

Denver fans don't like it...
No sir, they don't like it one bit...

And CBS Denver sports guy Vic Lombardi took to the streets to protest on his own...

OSG High: XC Coach Fired/Not Renewed For Painting On Lockers ???

((HT: KTLA-TV))

The California town of Arcadia has had a very successful cross-country program at their local high school under head coach Jim O'Brien. In 17 years, he has built a program that has seen hundreds of athletes move on to the next level of their lives- even national championships...

But O'Brien wasn't happy with the status of lockers inside the school that kept getting broken into on a regular basis. So, he started painting X's on them to show the school and the school system that a serious problem needed to be addressed.

Depending on who you ask, O'Brien was subsequently either fired or didn't have his contract renewed because of his actions or because the Arcadia school system just didn't want to renew his deal.

The latter would seem odd because of what O'Brien has built, but that's the school system's story at present...

It has caused more than just a little outrage among parents and students...

No word on when (or if) O'Brien's status will be addressed...

Clemson Releases Video From Howard's Rock Vandalism

((HT: Clemson their own selves))

Here's what the school is saying about the video and stills that are out there now...

Clemson University police released video and still images of a pickup truck suspected to be connected to the vandalism to Howard’s Rock, the iconic fixture Clemson players rub prior to running down the hill during the football team's entrance into Memorial Stadium.

Videos show the truck arriving and leaving the east side of Clemson Memorial Stadium Sunday, June 2, the period during which the rock was damaged. There also are photographs of the truck that were captured by city of Clemson cameras.

Police announced there is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The Clemson University Athletic Department raised the reward money from private funds.

If you have information regarding the case, call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Here's the coming in...

And the leaving...

The HQ would like to have the idiotic fools caught post haste...

Howard's Rock Vandalized... Really Not Cool...

In all that is wholly stupid, holy, and stupid...

From Clemson University's Sports Information Department:

Howard's Rock, the iconic fixture Clemson players rub prior to running down the hill during the football team's entrance into Memorial Stadium, was vandalized sometime June 2 or June 3. A small portion of The Rock was broken off of its pedestal after vandals broke the casing that protects the artifact.

"We take vandalism, especially of such an important part of our history, very seriously," said Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich. "Police are investigating."

There was no damage to the pedestal that supports the rock.

For those of you who have no idea what this means to Clemson, here's a small sample...
((HT: ESPN))

This is really not a good idea and the HQ hopes the person and/or persons responsible get vandalized, spray-painted, or something similar...

From WSPA-TV:

A police report obtained from the university stated that a officer responded to Clemson Memorial Stadium on June 3 after two employee's found the rock damaged. The officer observed the plexiglass cover was missing from Howard's Rock and a large piece of the rock was also missing.

The officer stated in the report that he found the plexiglass cover sitting on the ground near the gate to the stadium. The employee's told the officer that they did not touch the pedestal, but they did pick up several pieces of the rock and part of the lock from the case.

The officer took pictures of the damage and a partial fingerprint was recovered from the rock. A stadium employee took possession of the damaged lock and pieces of the rock. Athletic Department officials told the police officer that football campers had their pictures made at the rock on June 2, but the photo session ended at 4 pm.

The estimated damage to the rock is $500, but the total damage is still pending, the report states.

Damage Done To Dowdy-Ficklen Now $35K And Climbing

((HT: WNCT-TV Greenville, NC))

An East Carolina University freshman, William Banks (pictured right, thanks WCTI-TV), was arrested Sunday and charged with a boatload of things that went wrong at the home of East Carolina football.

Police claim that someone drove sports utility vehicles on the field overnight Saturday and also took out concession stands and water fountains with his alleged driving prowess while under the influence.

Banks was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, first-degree trespassing, injury to personal property and injury to real property.

Here's the update from WNCT and Dowdy-Ficklen...

Banks, or someone who claimed to be him, took to a Twitter account "@xXWillECU16Xx" to explain what he did and, eventually, somewhat-apologize (pictured again, right, thanks WCTI-TV)

Banks was busted when he went back to the stadium to find a phone he allegedly dropped there- even after he was arrested earlier on Saturday for possession of marijuana.

Oh, and the person (or persons) claiming to be Banks deleted his twitter account.
