OSG Prem: Lights Go Out During Fulham-ManU

((HT: The Score))

It's been an odd day in the Premier League Saturday...

Everton had to rely on two goals from Fellaini to tie Villa at 3, Newcastle got some extra time magic from newly-acquired Sissoko to steal a win at Chelsea that included Demba Ba getting kicked in the face without Coloccini getting a red card for his actions, and Reading surprised Sunderland. But the HQ doesn't think anything will top this...

It's late in the first half between Manchester United and Fulham at Craven Cottage. The pipes got more action than the goalkeepers, but the half wasn't without action otherwise...

Like the lack of light...

Here's the moment...

Light failure at Fulham vs Manchester United by UCL2410

Officials pulled the team off the pitch with 6 minutes of activity left in the half and sent them to their dressing rooms. Then, the players were called back to finish the half instead of capping time in the second half...

Well, okay then...

((HT: WSFA-TV Montgomery/WAFF-TV Huntsville))

Allegedly...

The head football coach for Lauderdale County (AL) High is catching all kinds of hell for the reported connversation he had about gays, school lunch programs, and the First Lady...

Head coach Bob Grisham may have left a lot of waste laid if this, in fact, his voice on the recording below...
Here's the original coverage fom Huntsville...
WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

County School Superintendent Jennifer Gray said she received an e-mail earlier this week with an audio clip of what's believed to be Grisham...

Here's the clip...
((HT: OnKneesForJesus4))

James Robinson, a representative of GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services in Huntsville, is calling for Grisham to step down or be fired from his teaching and coaching job- should the voice on the clip be his. Robinson said he plans to reach out to the school system and wants a full investigation with the findings made public. He says the comments were racist, sexist, and homophobic. Robinson is gay and played football for four years and can't believe the comments were made in a public school setting...

February 5 UPDATE: Linda Singleton-Rickman of the Huntsville Times-Daily reports that Grisham has been suspended for ten days, cannot teach his psychology class for the remainder of the year, must have accountability sessions with the school system's personnel director, and take sensitivity training.

DEVELOPING: Toomer's Oaks To Be Removed After A-Day

The Tree Preservation Society at Auburn University now sees no opportunity for the oaks at Toomer's Corner (pictured right, thanks Auburn University) to survive...

While no date for their removal has been set, the school is going to celebrate their treasure one more time in the spring...

Circle April 20 on your calendars for A-Day and the subsequent celebration...

"The Oaks at Toomer’s Corner have been a part of Auburn tradition for generations,” said FOSG Debbie Shaw, Auburn University vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association in the standard release. “Their removal will in no way diminish the Auburn Spirit, which has grown even stronger during these past two years.”

And, then, the new ideas are coming forward to see how Auburn fans and supporters will be able to do their school spirit-rolling after the oaks are gone. The university and city of Auburn will create structures at Toomer's Corner for rolling...

"The architects are combining their expertise and experience with the terrific input from the Auburn Family to come up with a future plan that we will all be proud of,” said Dan King, assistant vice president for Auburn University Facilities Management.

“We want people to be upbeat about the future of this area,” Shaw said. “Rolling the corner is a uniquely Auburn tradition, and whether we roll trees or other structures, the camaraderie and sense of togetherness is part of what makes Auburn a special place.”

One final roll on 4:20, huh...???
Nicely done- even if it's not in Colorado...

And, for those of you who are wondering about the legal system in the state of Alabam, the trial of Harvey Updyke is set to start at April 8... and, whaddya wanna bet there's another continuance before hand...???

Jamison Misses Coyotes Deadline... World Continues Rotating As Planned...

((HT: Azcentral/KPNX-TV))

So... Greg Jamison missed his deadline to secure and/or announce his partners (his deep-pocketed partners) to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes from the National Hockey League. Along with that went the subsidies approved by the old City of Glendale government which would have given Jamison US$300-million to keep the team at City Center for the next 20 years- or until he would become unhappy with the contract as it would have been drawn up.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly sent out the following statement after last night's deadline came and went: “We remain hopeful the Coyotes sale process will be resolved successfully and we will continue to work with the city of Glendale to move the process forward.”

The city released a statement saying the sides will work to reach a new agreement that is in the best interests of the city and its residents.

Here's new Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers sounding no alarm whatsoever...
Jamison has every intention of pursuing the team even with the passed deadline. The team itself came up with the following paragraph Friday: The Coyotes issued this statement: "Today, we were informed by the National Hockey League that Mr. Jamison was unable to close on his purchase of the Coyotes. Mr. Jamison will continue to work with the NHL and the City of Glendale to close a deal that will keep the Coyotes in the Valley. Although there is no set timetable, hopefully it will be soon. The Coyotes will continue to be owned by the NHL and nothing changes for our organization. We will work hard on and off the ice to provide our fans with a winning team that they can be proud of. We would like to thank all of our great fans and corporate partners for their incredible patience and loyalty throughout this process. We know it's been difficult and we appreciate their support." So, who knew Jamison as going to miss the deadline...??? Pretty much anyone paying attention... including a place like Markham, Ontario ((HT: ABC15))

A Billiken Blast Of Butler. Saint Louis U Ambushes The Bulldogs

10,612 Saint Louis U fans, the largest crowd at ever Chaifetz Arena saw their Billikens ambush ninth ranked Butler 75-58.
"We pretty much got punked," Butler guard Rotnei Clarke said. "End of story. There's not really much to say about it. We got outclassed and we got punked."

Witness for yourself how Butler got punked.  (Thanks SaintLouisBillikens)

Butler head coach Brad Stevens had a difference of opinion.  Stevens actually admired what he was seeing from Saint Louis U.
"I absolutely loved the way they moved the ball," Stevens said. "It was an absolute joy to watch one team play. The problem was, it wasn't the team I coached."

The team Stevens coaches was stifled by the Billikens defense shooting only 43 percent from the field, 37 percent in the first half.
Saint Louis shot 50 percent for the game and was led by Jordair Jett with 19 points.

"We were just thinking `Step on it. Make the lead go bigger," Jett said. "That's how we play.”

"Everyone was just focused. `Let's not waste a possession," Saint Louis head coach Jim Crews said. "I think our guys did a nice job of sustaining that mentality."

Clarke might have felt punked himself only shooting 5-12 from the field.  Clark finished the game with 17 points to lead the Bulldogs.
The good thing for Butler is that it’s just one game in a marathon college basketball season.

"We've got to bounce back from this," Stevens said.
The Butler coach knows this loss must be forgotten.

Going back to Hinkle Fieldhouse will help.  The Bulldogs next two games are in their old barn hosting Rhode Island Saturday then St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night.

BUZZER BEATER: MTSU's Shawn Jones With The Instant Catch-And-Shoot Wins It For Blue Raiders Over FIU

Nothing like a buzzer beater off the inbounds pass and Thursday night in Miami Middle Tennessee State executed that play perfectly.
Bruce Massey, Jr. timed a perfect lob to Shawn Jones who had the perfect instant catch and shoot to beat the buzzer and win it for the Blue Raiders 66-64 over FIU.

"When Coach Davis called the play, I went back in my mind to when we would practice it all the time, I never converted the play...until tonight.” Shawn Jones said.  “That was the first time I converted. I knew when Bruce threw it, I had to make a play for the ball, and it went in."
Shawn got a great pass from Bruce.”MTSU head coach Kermit Davis said.“In those kind of plays you're not going to get a call. You've got to go make a play, and that's what we all understand. He kind of got bumped, and he caught that ball with two hands and made a great play right in front of the rim. It was a great pass and really good execution by our guys."

MTSU was down by 17 at halftime but chipped away at FIUs lead.  A 20-7 Blue Raider run in the final seven minutes of the game proved to be the difference.  That run was capped off by the buzzer beater of Shawn Jones.
The win over FIU was the eighth in a row by MTSU and the Blue Raiders have won 12 of 13.  With an overall record of 19-4, 11-1 in the Sun Belt Conference Middle Tennessee is the favorite to represent the conference at the NCAA Tournament.

A comeback conference win on the road helps too.
