The short answer is: Because Louisiana Tech head coach Sonny Dykes tells QB Colby Cameron to hand the ball off to the talented freshman...
Dixon scored six TD's in last night's 70-28 win over Idaho.
"It was good to see the way the team came out and played after a tough loss last week," Dykes said post-game. "We wanted to come out and get off to a good start after not doing that last week against Texas A&M."
Safe to say, they did...
Louisiana Tech picked up 839 total yards of offense, a single game record and the most by a Division I team this season. The Bulldogs rushed for 408 yards and passed for another 431 yards in the win.
The 70 points were the most by Tech since they scored 77 in a win over UL-Lafayette in 1998. Tech entered the game the top-ranked team in the country in scoring offense and, also tied a WAC single game record with 56 first half points.
Here's the wrap from Joe Aillet...

Mack Brown Says Stats Are Out The Window, Flips Bird At Himself
((HT: ESPN))
And all the Longhorns are evaluating now are wins...
That's, probably, the healthy way to look at things since the kids under Manny Diaz have stopped playing defense in Austin...
The latest evidence was last night playing another team that has stopped playing defense a few years ago in Baylor...
Here's how the game started...
By the end of things, 106 points were scored, 1,132 total yards of offense were on the table, 18 different receivers caught passes, Lache Seastrunk actually got some action, and Texas won 56-50. The Longhorns knocked the Bears to 3-3 while staying at 25th-ranked for now until the new numbers come out...
But halftime had its moment of unintentional levity as Mack Brown gave himself the finger... fans can read into that whatever they wish...
The HQ doesn't quite think Diaz lasts til next year...
Jus' sayin'...

So, What About Derek Dooley...??? Tide Roll Vols
((HT: WBIR-TV Knoxville))
The HQ has talked about the impending doom on the Plains with the anticipated dismissal of Gene Chizik and his staff at Auburn after their 1-6 start and (probable) 3-9 finish- setting themselves up for the second pick in the upcoming Ess-E-Cee Draft behind Kentucky...
What...??? They don't do that...???
Oh, right...
But what about the seemingly-overwhelmed Derek Dooley and Tennessee...???
The 44-13 thrashing by Alabama last night in Knoxville didn't help his case, either- hip replacement or anything else for that matter. Volunteer fans actually are comparing the fate of Dooley to that of Mike Shula... the guy might be a good coach, but here...??? He's outgunned and overmatched...
Here's the wrap...
So, now what...??? Nick Saban did the neighborly thing for his old assistant in post-game saying, "Derek’s doing a fantastic job. They have been better and better every year that we’ve played them.’’
But the HQ isn't buying what the top team in the country is selling...
Okay... who's Dooley's replacement...???

OSG D2 and OSG D3: Small Schools, Big Numbers
As always, in Division II and Division III, there are a lot of games between schools that have no business playing football- except that there is a reason to play football on campus...
The whole "revenue" thing... regardless of how bad you may be on the field...
Here are some examples...
Humboldt State 57 Dixie State 18
Macalester 59 Trinity (IL) 0
Whitworth 70 Puget Sound 11
Linfield 63 Lewis & Clark 0
Cal Lutheran 56 Occidental 7
But this next one is a bit of a surprise...
The HQ has known about Pittsburg State (KS) with all of their championship title efforts in Division II. But they were handed their worst home loss in 98 years with a 63-14 loss at the hands of Missouri Western State- #16 defeats #7
Here's the wrap from MWSU their own selves...
Winston-Salem State 58 Livingstone 0
Norwich 56 Husson 0
Mount Union 51 Otterbein 0
Missouri S&T 64 Quincy 6
Delaware Valley 70 Misericordia 0
Merrimack 81 St. Anselm 35
And, finally, North Dakota State had no problems with South Dakota 54-0

Can The Duke/Carolina Basketball Game Top The Football Game? Duke Defeats Carolina 33-30 To Become Bowl Eligible
I don’t think the Duke/North Carolina men’s
basketball rivalry can top the football rivalry this year.
Yes Austin Rivers hit a buzzer beater last February
at the Dean Smith Center to win the game for Duke but the men’s basketball team
has four NCAA championships and is one of the sports gold standards.
Duke football has been a joke until David Cutcliffe
took over five years ago but things have changed in the Bull City. No one is laughing at the Blue Devils now and
for the first time in 18 years Duke is eligible to go to a bowl game and Duke
did ah la Austin Rivers from last winter.
With 13 seconds left Duke quarterback Sean Renfree
connected with receiver Jamison Crowder for the game winning five yard
touchdown to give the Blue Devils at 33-30 win over North Carolina. It wasn't the prettiest win of the Duke/Carolina series but for the Blue Devils it was perfect.
Here’s the game winner for Duke and the celebration
that followed. (Thanks WRAL-TV)
Duke quarterback Sean Renfree talks about the game
winner (Thanks WRAL-TV)
And post game sound with Duke head coach David
Cutcliffe. (Thanks GoDuke.com)
Those of us at the OSG HQ have been openly rooting
for David Cutcliffe and his Duke Blue Devils to accomplish the goal of six
wins, a winning season and a bowl game. We salute the Blue Devils and coach Cut for
reaching that goal. We couldn’t be
happier for a coach and a group of football players and for the program.
Collin Klein Heisman Front Runner? Geno Smith's Stock Going Down. K-State Crushes WVU 55-14
Geno Smith’s Heisman Trophy stock is dropping. Collin Klein’s stock is soaring to front
runner status for the stiff-arm pose.
Klein and his Kansas State Wildcats dominated West Virginia
at Morgantown 55-14 and the game didn’t seem that close.
Klein was damn near perfect, 19-21 passing for a
career high 323 yards, ran for four touchdowns and threw for 3 touchdowns.
The K-State quarterback clearly won the head to head
battle with former Heisman front runner Geno Smith who threw for 143 yards and one
touchdown however tossed his first two interceptions of the season.
"He doesn’t do anything wrong.” West Virginia
head coach Dana Holgorsen said. He is the same guy we saw on film. He is
exactly the same guy we thought he would be.”
Which is a damn good football player and Kansas
State is exactly who WVU thought they were, a BCS Championship Game contender.
Here’s the highlights from a stunned Morgantown, WV
(Thanks Fox Sports)
K-State has put themselves in the conversation with
Alabama and Oregon as the top three contenders for the BCS National Championship
Game.
The Wildcats own three Big 12 Conference wins on the
road, at Oklahoma, at Iowa State (and the Cyclones aren’t bad either.) and now
a domination of West Virginia.
The Wildcats final five games are first a pair of
home games vs Texas Tech and Oklahoma State then road trips to TCU and then to
Waco, Texas to play the Baylor Bears before finishing the season hosting Texas
at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. It’s just
seems very odd for K-State and Texas to finish the season (ramifications of
realignment.)
I’m just wondering how many are now jumping on the
K-State bandwagon. I’m there now.Saturday, October 20, 2012
Texas Tech outlasts TCU in 3-OT's
Geez, we got tired watching this game.
Texas Tech held off a game TCU Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth 56-53 in 3 Overtimes.
Yes, that's right, 3 Overtimes.
TCU scored 10-points in the last 2:30 of regulation play to tie the game at 36. There would be a lot more football left to be played.
The 2 teams traded touchdowns in the first 2 overtime periods and the Horned Frogs thought they might pull out the win when Jaden Oberkrom drilled a 38-yard field goal to take a 53-50 lead in the third overtime.
But Tech's Seth Doege threw his 7th (yes 7) touchdown pass to Alex Torres shortly after the field goal, giving the Red Raiders the win.
That win moves Tech to 5-1, 3-1 in the Big 12, TCU drops to 5-2 and 2-2 in the Big 12.
Both teams probably will sleep good tonight.
