Arsenal's Champions League Adventures Continue

((HT: UEFA/Champions League))

First, Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey got a red card in the scoreless draw with Beskitas that means he sits out the second leg at the Emirates...

Not that Demba Ba almost didn't make that whole point moot off the kick-off...

But, just after the match was completed, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims he was the target of a foreign object- "a bottle or something"- and the team reported the incident to UEFA.

UEFA's disciplinary department will now review the match report before deciding whether to take action as Wenger was not hit by the "bottle or something..."

OSG UEFA: Chelsea Climbs Ladder At Home, Real Survives In Quarters

((HT: UEFA/beINSport))

Chelsea had only one thing in their pocket going into the second leg of the Champions League quarters...
The one road goal...

Losing 3-1 wasn't all bad. It just had to be done at home by a two-goal margin...
And thanks to Schurrle and Ba... (who had those two in the fantasy league scoring column...?)
They advance to the semis with a 2-0 win...

Chelsea is now in the last four for the seventh time in the last 11 years.

And, in the other quarter of the day, Real Madrid sat an injured Cristiano Ronaldo from their starting XI. Lewandoski was starting for Borussia Dortmund and they needed some help. But they had to score a little more than they did by the end...

A 2-0 final kept them a goal short of advancing...

Bayern Munich hosts Manchester United Wednesday, and Barcelona takes on Atletico Madrid after both first legs ended 1-1 in the other quarterfinals match-ups.

OSG Prem: Arsenal Puts 7 On Newcastle

((HT: FoxSports))

Admittedly, the HQ was attending a wedding and didn't see how this one got away from Newcastle United... Demba Ba had scored to make the game tied at threes with twenty minutes to go...

And then all blue hell broke loose...

Theo Walcott ended up with a hat trick and the Gunners scored three times in the last five minutes...

Evidence below...

Newcastle has, seemingly, under Alan Pardew decided to outscore opponents and not play defense- as evidenced by the back and forth with United last time around and the game today. That was, until, the meltdown in the last five minutes...

Olivier Giroud seems healthy after his bout with the sniffles...
Walcott is still looking for a new contract... and Newcastle is in real trouble...

OSG Prem: Everton Denied Win By Lack Of Goal Line Technology

((HT: FoxSports))

On a day where the Merseyside united as one, a lack of goal line technology screwed Everton out of an easy win against Newcastle.

The Magpies, surprisingly, sat Demba Ba from their starting 11, but he would come back to pay for that decision over and over again.

But more on that later...

The night started with a fitting tribute for the 96 Liverpool supporters who lost their lives at Hillsborough. This past week, it was determined by an independent inquiry that the South Yorkshire Police were at fault on multiple levels for the overcrowding and lack of personal care for victims whose lives could have been saved.

Everton made a point to have a tribute involving a ball boy and girl and a video presentation involving the song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother."

That was the only part of the evening where everyone agreed with sentiment. Goals by Fellaini and Anichebe were disallowed- one on a questionable offsides call and one because the side official failed to see the other the cross the goal line- which it clearly did.

Here's the highlights...

Toffees boss David Moyes was blunt: "I think it's a difficult call for them but if you're the linesman you're on the line and you'd hope you'd see if the ball went over the line.

"That's their job. He's looking right along so you'd hope he would see it."

So, where's that goal line technology again...???
