Since East Carolina was fighting for a 10-win season in Conference USA, but they had to get through Ohio U to do it...

In front of friends and family at the Suncoast Dome (you know... where the Devil Rays play baseball), Vintavious Cooper ran for 198 yards and Shane Carden was 29-for-45 for 273 yards and a score as the Pirates won 37-20...

Carden even caught a TD pass from Cam Worthy to put the Pirates up 31-20 half way through the fourth...

Whoopsie!

It seemed like a great idea at the time. A celebrity fundraiser for O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio. And hey, why not, let's ask Ohio University football coach Frank Solich to participate.

And Solich, the head coach of the Bobacats, a Mid-American Conference power this year, gladly accepted. After all, he's a part of the Athens community.

The challenge, ride tricycle's around the hospital parking lot in competition with other celebrities. Which again, was all good, until Solich's turn.

Ooops.

Wonder if Solich will be asked about this at the MAC media days on Tuesday afternoon?

Your College Softball Catch of the Day--Through the Wall

Nicely done young lady.

Alyssa Wolfe, outfielder for Ohio University made a catch Thursday in her teams conference semi-final tournament that is, well, being shown on a lot of blogs and TV this morning.

The reason: It was pretty impressive.

Wolfe runs tracks, runs down and then runs through the outfield fence to make a running catch ending Ohio's game with Miami of Ohio, sending the Bobcats to the MAC Tourney finals.

In Happy Valley... which, probably, isn't very Happy today...

Earlier in the week the Bobcats gave their head coach, Frank Solich, a contract extension and the MAC-tion continued with the come-from-behind win over Penn State...

This, admittedly, was a game that some people circled as a possible upset... and those that did have this one either had a lot of courage in their brackets knowledge or were flat crazy.

Walter Offutt left tOSU because he didn't get enough playing time. He went down the road to Athens, Ohio, got his playing time, and got the Bobcats a win over Michigan 65-60 to face a Round 3 opponent.

But, when Michigan shoots only 41-percent compared to 51-percent by the Bobcats, that'll do it as well. The last time Ohio made it to the tournament, two years ago, they upset another three seed in Georgetown.

So, the lesson learned here is not to make Ohio U. a three-seed under any circumstances...
