Just having a game on a Tuesday night is weird enough. Seeing the highlights of the Lousiana-Lafayette vs. Arkansas State Red Wolves game, was flat out bizarre.
The Ragin Cajuns got the 55-40 win, but the strange plays were everywhere. Red Wolves RB Michael Gordon scored on a 70-yard TD run in the 2nd quarter--but only after being wrestled to the ground near the line of scrimmage. Or so we thought. Gordon actually landed on top of a pile of his own players and never touched the ground. So he just rolled up and sped to the end zone untouched.
It also featured another bizarre Arkansas State play where on a reverse, the guy making the last handoff, punctuated it with a full summersault.
And lest we forget the fake punt. The Red Wolves inexplicably tried a fake punt while near their own end zone. And unlike a couple weeks ago against Miami where the pass was intercepted, this one was complete. However it only went for a yard.
The Cajuns got the ball on their 6 and scored on the next play.
Elijah McGuire was the star of the game, running for 265 yards and 4 TD's on only 16 carries for La.-Laf, who remain 3-0 in the Sun Belt conference, tied with newcomers Georgia Southern, who are not eligible for a bowl invite.

Ragin' Cajuns Going Big Time With New Facilities
((ht: coachingsearch.com))
This post is partially for The Lovely Bride, a graduate of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Yes, the the University of Louisiana-Lafayette has had (for them) unprecedented success the past two seasons. Both 9-4 seasons led to bowl appearances and wins under current head coach Mark Hudspeth.
Seizing on that momentum, the school is reaching for the stars. There's not a date on the project (yet), but they Ragin' Cajuns appear to be ready to expand their stadium to over 52,000 seats and add a brand-spanking new football complex right next to it.
Your story from CoachingSearch.com RIGHT HERE
No, we don't think it's true that they'll name it after Hudspeth, who, if the Cajuns are successful again this season (they should be), will become a rather hot coaching commodity.
But that's another story for another day.
Take a look at the pretty video the school has produced in advance of said structure:

Ragin' Cajuns win the New Orleans Bowl
This made The Lovely Bride's day.....
Lousiana-Lafayette (her alma mater) won their second straight bowl game Saturday afternoon, holding off the East Carolina Pirates 43-34.
For those who didn't watch this, it was actually a pretty good game, with the Ragin' Cajuns getting out to an early 21 point lead before the Pirates clawed their way back.
The game came down to a 4th down play with just over 2:30 left when Melvin White knocked down Pirate QB Shane Carden's pass to WR Andrew Bodenheimer.
Once again, Ragin' Cajuns QB Terrance Broadway was the star, going 21-31 for 316 yds and a TD along with running for 108 yds and a TD.
The win game La.Laf it's second straight 9-win season and more than likely assures head coach Mark Hudspeth as being a hot coaching commodity for next seasons version of the Coaching Carousel.
Here's one of the highlights, Broadway hitting WR Javonne Lawson for the TD late in the 3rd qtr.

Ragin Cajuns win on Buzzer Beater
No, this isn't a basketball story.
It's the story of the University of Lousiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns who won their 1st bowl game since 1944 when Brett Baer barely pushed a 50-yard field goal through the uprights as the clock struck zero in the New Orleans Bowl Saturday night. That sealed the Cajuns 32-30 win over San Diego State.
The win moved the Cajuns to 9-4 on the season, arguably their most successful season ever. 1st year coach Mark Hudspeth helped engineer the turnaround from a 3-9 record in 2010. Quarterback Blaine Gautier was the game MVP, throwing for 470 yards and 3 TD's.
The kick came after Baer had lined up for a 55-yard field goal. However, San Diego State tried to draw the Cajuns into a procedure penalty.
It didn't work. It just moved the kick closer and that probably was the saver, because if you see the highlights. The kick barely made it.
Here's a replay of your game winner: (until its pulled)
KATC-TV takes us to a Lafayette area sports bar where the masses were watching, though apparently, they forgot to use a Nat Sound microphone.
Thanks KATC:
