Big Numbers, Big Whoop...Louisville, Miami, Baylor, Pitt

Ranked versus Unranked led to a 17-0 spread and an average score of 47-11...

Some people like it for the idea of getting your back-ups the chance to get reps- just in case...
Others think it's tiresome...

Baylor beat Louisiana-Monroe 70-7 and no one wants to play Baylor
((HT: KWTX-TV))

Iowa put up 59 against a directional Michigan school while Michigan actually just survived a UConn road game...

Savannah State picked up another paycheck traveling to Miami to get whacked by Miami 77-7. The spread was 60 and they covered...

“I know that I can change a program like this,” first-year Savannah State coach Earnest Wilson said. “We aspire to be big-time. A game like this helps us judge where we are. The only difference is depth. I know I have to go out and recruit and get some guys like they have.”

Savannah State got $375,000 for taking the trip to Miami, plus another chance to line up against a ranked program. The game was shortened in the fourth quarter. Wilson and Miami’s Al Golden talked at halftime and agreed to trim 3 minutes off the final quarter.

“I’ve been there,” Golden said. “I’ve been on the other side of those at Temple. He was trying to teach his team how to keep fighting. I’ve been in his shoes.”

Here's the highlights...

In Louisville, Teddy Bridgewater threw four touchdown passes and Louisville's defense allowed a school-record 30 yards, helping the seventh-ranked Cardinals blow out Florida International 72-0. It was the highest scoring game for the Cardinals since a 73-10 victory over Murray State in 2007. It also matched the school's fifth-largest margin of victory.

And in a game that, actually, was entertaining about it...
Pitt and Duke went after each other to the tune of a 58-55 shootout where the Panthers had to run out the clock on the ground...

What this says about Coach Cut and the Duke defense, the HQ doesn't really know... but there should be reason for optimism with the offense...

FSU AD Breaks Up Fight At Regional

((HT: Warchant.com))

Randy Spetman is not to be messed with...

Almost 30 years in the Air Force as a defensive lineman and serving your country does not mean that you will suffer fools lightly, and you won't let a little skirmish in the stands mess up your building as Florida State's Athletic Director...

Savannah State fans got in to it with FSU Fans (specifically "the Animals") at Dick Howser at Day One of the NCAA Regionals and...

Ta dah!!!

Scott Sitz pitched the number seven national seed to a 10-0 win on opening day... which gave the Tigers a day two elimination game with Alabama (of all teams)- who lost to Troy on day one...

College Students Invade Daytona 500

((HT: The Coastal Source))

This one comes from FOSG Frank Sulkowski...

Remember the two college kids from Savannah State University that invaded the Roman Numeral Classic, making their way all the way into the tunnels and onto the field...???

Well, they now have episode (or "invasion") number two...

The auto racing event in Daytona...
Here's the edited down version of the exploits of Joseph Roberts and Malachi Youngblood

The HQ still doesn't know what to think about this...

If we were younger, we would probably admire their chutzpah... that's a Yiddish term, look it up...

But nowadays, the HQ's jury is still out on whether or not we like showing that security isn't what people think it is...
When Frank interviews them, we'll put that below...

Ever Want To Sneak Into Something...??? How About The Roman Numeral Classic...??? (UPDATE)

((HT: SavannahNow))

The HQ will make the point that we've snuck down into better seats in ball games and movies that we didn't buy tickets for when the movie we bought tickets for really sucked...

But two Savannah State University students made their way onto the floor of the Superdome for the Roman Numeral Classic

Here's their short version...
Well done, sirs, if this in fact what you did... They plan a full-length documentary in the future on their exploits... And that might be worth seeing... UPDATE: The Shield is less than pleased... and, probably, thinking along the lines of a trespassing charge- SINCE THE WHOLE THING WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO... "NFL security is conducting a review and following up with the appropriate authorities in New Orleans," Greg Aiello said in a release...

Of course, they are...

TWTW: The Good And Bad In Savannah... Georgia Southern and Savannah State

((HT: TheCoastalSource))

First, Jacksonville University seems to have fallen off the map in the Pioneer Football League even with Kerwin Bell still around...

His trademark high-powered offense wasn't all that high-powered in a 58-0 loss to Georgia Southern...

And, there really needs to be a mercy rule or some kind of equivalent in college football... the HQ saw that the Vegas number (probably "offshore number" is more accurate) was 67 to 67.5 for Oklahoma State against D2 Savannah State.

The Cowboys cleared that number and the Tigers got a paycheck...
Or, at least, the HQ hopes they did...

Jenni Carlson talks about the new records set for points in a game and largest margin of victory...

Robby Wells Settles With Sav State For $240k, Will Run For President

You remember Robby Wells, don't you...???

He was the former head football coach at D2 Savannah State University who claimed he was fired for racial bases and not on-the-field performance.

Wells received $240,000 to settle his discrimination lawsuit against school administrators and the state Board of Regents. The settlement also included another $110,000 to cover legal fees.

Wells became Savannah State's first white football coach when he was hired in 2007. In May 2010, the former coach sued the school in federal court, saying the university forced him to resign because he's white and engaged to marry a black woman.

FOSG Allen Kinzly covers the deal...
((HT: Thecoastalsource.com))

As of two weeks ago, Wells actually is pursuing the office of President of the United States. He's running as an independent- provided he gets enough signatures to make the ballot as a write-in candidate...

The HQ is not kidding...

Damon Evans New Gig: Consulting

((HT: savannahnow.com))

Looks like Damon Evans new gig is consulting for Division II Savannah State...

Noell Barnidge is reporting that
he has two sources saying Evans will be looking at the Athletic Department that has had 7 AD's and four school presidents since 2004.

Marilynn Suggs was fired Wednesday after less than seven months on the job. State's interim president Cheryl Dozier announced her decision to make a “change in leadership in the athletics department” and appointed men’s basketball head coach Horace Broadnax as interim AD.

From Barnidge, who reached Suggs by phone:

“It was a surprise,” Suggs said. “After being told that I didn’t do anything wrong, I’m extremely disappointed. The momentum for the athletic program was forward, the trajectory is up. I competed for the position based on a stability thing and building relationships, and so there is now no stability, from my perspective. Stability was the number one thing I brought to the athletic department.”

When asked about her future plans, Suggs said, “At this point, I’m not willing to go into that. It’s still very new and, like I’ve told people, it’s like an out of body experience for me. I’ve never experienced this before. Since this is so very new, I have a lot to think about. I can’t answer that.”

Here's coverage from FOSG "The Big Guy" Frank Sulkowski on all of this...
((HT: The Coastal Source))

Sidebar: Since Easter Sunday, two football players and a women's basketball player have been arrested- the football players for differing drug charges, and the basketball player for fighting in public.
